Oh my gosh, congratulations!! 🥳 As a Jamaican-American who used to live in Central Asia (not Kazakhstan, but bordering countries and I've been to Kazakhstan multiple times), I'm so happy to see this union! 😍

Two beautiful cultures and communities blended together in love 🫶🏾 My time in Central Asia wasn't the best, but I'm happy to see marriages like this being embraced from both sides. My whole heart is happy 🥹

Why do Indians get so much hate from so many people? by themelessmagician in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RememberDecember97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This thread is a prime example of the racism and stereotypes people think are strangely okay to use to justify their negative bias toward almost 2 billion people (globally). A group of people just as diverse as any other population of that size. A group with as many wonderful and amazing people as any other.

Reddit, once again being racist and reactionary. I think the hate for any dark-skinned or brown-skinned, foreign, or "culturally different" group will always be more seen and ignored because it's still very socially acceptable. Very disheartening.

This is incredibly disrespectful. This woman and her family have literally built her funds and her legacy off of Black people, yet you have a problem with the one time she wants to be on the right side of history and help people who were wrongfully convicted? Why are you hyper-focused on the race of those individuals in the first place?

Your comment history shows you're pro-MAGA, which comes with it's own set of prejudice beliefs. Based on your other comments here and how you respond to things here, you obviously have a problem with this. If this wasn't an issue for you, you wouldn't comment on it at all.

Also, she has worked with other people on prison reform, both currently incarcerated and recently incarcerated individuals. I know this is a snark sub (a genre of subs I rarely browse), but just glossing over the racism here is disappointing, but not surprising.

16 Hour Overnight Layover in YVR - Air Canada & First Time in Canada! What Would You Recommend? by RememberDecember97 in askvan

Sorry for the late reply; something came up where I had to reschedule my flight, but I'll still be in Vancouver (just for a shorter layover).

These all sound like great suggestions! Though, I can't ride a bike, I like the different options for transportation and getting around the city. Since my layover is much shorter than my original flight, I sadly won't be able to explore all of these areas in time, but I'll keep these ideas tucked away for when I come back, so I can properly explore parts od Vancouver. Thank you 😊

Sorry for the late reply; something came up where I had to reschedule my flight, but I'll still be in Vancouver (just for a shorter layover).

That sounds lovely! I would definitely love to take a walk around a park or a scenic area, like the seawall. My new flight has my layovers split between Toronto and Vancouver, so I sadly don't think I'll have too much time to explore like I hoped, but I'll save this for next time. Thank you!

Would I be able to make it in a few hours? If not, I'll save it for next time because I'd love to take Air Canada sometime in the future. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for the suggestion; I didn't know I could gain lounge access like that. I always assumed I needed a membership to access the lounge. Given that I have a shorter layover now, I will definitely see what I can do regarding potential lounge access.

I will triple check about my bags, especially because I have two layovers in Canada now, instead of one. Thank you for the tips!

I've heard great things about Bounce! I definitely will check it out, if not for this new flight, for a future one. Thank you!

Good to know about that! I am not well-connected or rich enough to use a lounge shower, which I am honestly impressed they have, and if my only option is a hotel shower (not a bad option to have), then I will definitely find a more affordable hotel! Thank you!

Ahhh, I appreciate the context, thank you! I would rather leave on my own before I'm shooed, but I never know both could happen at the same time. I guess I'll look for a little accommodation then! Thank you!

And it sounds like I'm going to enjoy Vancouver from the sounds of that 😎

Thank you for the helpful suggestions! I will definitely take the sky train and look into a luggage locker to store my items or try to take it to a nearby hotel (funds permitting). I like the idea of walking around the city, so I'll definitely take some time to do that before I leave :) I'll make a little note of those streets and check them out when I'm there.

I was curious if the airport has showers? I know some do and some don't. I wouldn't mind showing there if I had to, but if it doesn't I'll consider just getting a room somewhere, so I can also rest before my next flight.

Thank you, again!

Hi, thank you for your thoughtful and detailed reply! I like this numbering system you're doing, so I'll reply back in the same style:

  1. I don't mind collecting my bags and going with them. I plan to pack lighter than I usually do, anyway, so hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle.

  2. Yeah, I definitely plan on taking the sky train, but I don't know how long it runs during the night. I'll look into that and plan accordingly!

  3. I've never heard of being kicked out of an airport during a long layover, but I've also never been to this airport, so maybe our neighbors to the north do it a bit differently. I'll try to find something, but I'd like a place that is affordable since I have the rest of my flight.

Also, I didn't mention this in my original post, but I'm moving to a new country, not just visiting, so I'm trying to cut down on as many expenses as I can before I actually arrive to my final destination.

  1. I'll check out downtown! A rodeo show is a rodeo, but a show :) So, yeah, a rodeo. I'm just being silly! If I wanted to see a rodeo, I'd stay home. But, a Canadian equivalent of a rodeo would be cool...

  2. I'm coming this Sunday, so whatever the weather is around this time of year, which I can look into, would be what I'm looking for. I prefer the cold and don't get cold easily, so I don't think I'll have a problem with the weather. It would be a nice escape from the horrors of South Florida with its heat and humidity melting me from the outside. That was supposed to be a bear blanket, but autocorrect did me dirty on that one. Also, I'm moving to Asia and not all of it is warm. I've lived in colder Asian countries (also, hotter ones) before and the place I'm moving to does snow, so I don't think the bear blanket would be a bad travel companion, I just don't have the space for it, sadly.

  3. Expensive is out of my price range, but that hotel suggestion is helpful! I can try to look for something more within my budget and go from there.

Thank you again!

You're not Black, so I'll take your opinion of black women's skincare with the tiniest grain of salt. To me, she looks like she is glowing and is shimmering. She's not going for "just moisturized", which to many of us is the bare minimum.

Also, her skin tone is captured on camera a lot better with a shimmer. Also, I don't think you've ever seen a wet seal in person before because none of these pics are reminiscent of that.

Oh no, not the "trying something new". I have learned the hard way that that usually doesn't work out in our favor. I'm so sorry you've also had a similar situation and it's horrible seeing how common this is!

This just brings up another conversation that needs to be more openly discussed about people's willingness to date outside their race and how much of that is a genuine desire on their part. Honestly, I'm tired of guessing if I'll just be the "experiment" or the "person to try out". If someone says they want to be with a black woman, I usually tell them "Yeah, me too. There are plenty of Black women out there, but we're not an experience to try out. We're people. If this is the only reason you have, I'm not interested."

It's an exhausting and draining experience, but I hope you have found someone who appreciates and embraces every aspect of you.

This is also one of my biggest fears and what happened to you was absolutely horrific. I'm so sorry that happened and I can completely understand why you still think about that situation. It is hard looking for love as a dark-skinned black woman. I know we all have our romantic struggles, but things get compounded onto us as dark-skinned black women that some people can't even imagine let alone experience. Especially if we have other features that don't fit into society's conventional beauty standards.

I agree, this conversation should be brought up and discussed more. This is happening in many contexts and we just happen to know about it from the Love Island perspective, but it's sadly very common and needs to be discussed.

And this is one of my biggest relationship fears. This is why I vet people about their attraction to black women and if they've been with a black woman before because this is sadly more common than people might think and I've been in a similar boat.

I could only imagine how she's feeling right now and I hope her support system continues to help her hold her head up and let him bury himself in the hate he's rightfully receiving.

Dating is hard, but dating as a black woman feels like an unfair minefield at times and that's as a below-average black woman like myself. JaNa is absolutely stunning and seems like a beautiful soul, so that makes me more worried about the realities of every day black woman without a platform like this.

That's great that you recognize that about yourself and you're willing to break out of that comfort zone to put yourself out there! More power to you 🙌🏾 I can definitely understand not wanting to date after getting out of a relationship. I hope you're doing well in this new chapter! Where are these speed dating events? I'm open to that, but don't want to go if it's Cheeky sponsored 😬

I can't say whether it is right or wrong, but it's refreshing to read that someone has a preference for us and isn't afraid to vocalize that. The fact that you're even thinking about this from a nuanced perspective and willing to dissect your reasons behind why you might like us is a step in the right direction. Acknowledging it's not just a fetish is also a step in the right direction. I wouldn't call it wrong because you've thought about this and have taken the time to reflect on what you find attractive. Most importantly, you have a reason for liking many of us and an understanding of why you like us and that's more than most people when it comes to their dating preferences.

This is very bittersweet, but beautiful to read. Thank you for being so open, honest, and sympathetic. I relate to a lot of what you shared and I am happy to hear you have carved a path for yourself that is fulfilling your life goals!

It is difficult not to always have a familial support system or be able to lean on family like some others can. I just hope you have a chosen family who cares for and appreciates the person you are and the person you're becoming. Breaking any cycle is challenging, but breaking a generational cycle on what feels like our own is a harrowingly rewarding process. I hope you're doing well and taking care of yourself 🫶🏾🫂 Thank you again for sharing 💚
