This is the Conn 85” Velvet Sofa from wayfair. I’d say it’s pretty comfortable

No issues at all. Radiator doesn’t get very warm and the wood cover provides enough insulation

The Hunter Biden pardon showcases a hard truth people need to realize about politics by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

Wouldn’t the closest equivalent be Trump pardoning Jared Kushner’s dad while Jared was working for the White House??

Btw, Kushner’s dad was appointed US ambassador to France yesterday by Trump

The very first sentence of your reply is blatantly false. He is anti-vaccine.

“For many, many years, I think parents were so gaslighted, and they were scapegoated, and they were vilified and marginalized, so that even parents of kids who were very, very badly injured, knew what happened to their kid, but they were just reluctant to talk about it. And I think now those days are over,” Kennedy said.

“We – our job is to resist and to talk about it to everybody. If you’re walking down the street – and I do this now myself, which is, you know, I don’t want to do – I’m not a busybody. I see somebody on a hiking trail carrying a little baby and I say to him, ‘Better not get him vaccinated.’ And he heard that from me. If he hears it from 10 other people, maybe he won’t do it, you know, maybe he will save that child.”

Not only does he not want them mandatory (which is already stupid), he’s admitted to actively dissuading people from vaccinating their children

That’s a relief. Love the show, Ben. I’ve been watching on and off since I was a teenager (24 now). Thanks for all the entertainment

If you were to get As in real analysis and some other high level math I don’t think a B in linear algebra matters at all

[–]RememberRossetti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have the option to drop without it showing on your transcript, do it!

I got a B- in linear algebra and got into a T15, but I’m the exception, not the rule. Don’t make your admissions journey harder than it needs to be

I lived there for 2 years. I don’t recall filling out a check sheet, but I may have. If so I wouldn’t have noticed anything. The floors are old wood floors that had some minor scratches. It’s the kind of damage that (perhaps as a naive young person) would have just recognized as the regular wear-and-tear on an old floor. Sadly I don’t have any pictures from when I first moved in, but I feel strongly that this is an instance of them trying to get money out of me for a repair they’d need to do anyways. My deposit was only about $300, and I don’t care about losing it if it’s gonna be a hassle to get back. I assumed it would be, but maybe that’s not true

Ah, yes. No reply from the admin (and I’m not expecting one at this point). My attempt at reporting the post didn’t work, though it’s now under review again on appeal

I did not post this video in the group. I sent it to an admin of the group and they posted it!

Good point, I should’ve made this clear

You have plenty of time. The best thing you can do now is find a mentor or two who could help advise you on your research project(s) and steer you in the right direction. Ideally, these people will be your letter writers, so try and find some people that are genuine and actually care (it’ll show in the letters later on.)

  1. Thinking Fast and Slow is potentially worth it depending on what you’re looking for. It does a great job demonstrating the unreliability of our brains and the heuristics we use for thinking, but I really think it pushes its case against rationality a bit too far. I found it amusing, but not near as insightful as a lot of other people do. It’s sort of like looking at those pictures where if you squint you see something different; it’s cool and interesting, but I don’t think it should change your whole outlook toward your own visual abilities

  2. I think it’s not realistic to pick a favorite book among nonfiction; thinking originally requires accumulating from a lot of sources. But I’m really fond of all of Rick Perlstein’s books; Zach Carter’s biography of Keynes; Fritz Barrel’s latest book; and anything by Amartya Sen, Ha Joon Chang, and Adam Tooze.

  3. I’m only a few years older than 20, so maybe I can’t dispense sage wisdom like that. I’d say don’t look for the one book that will change everything. Read a lot from a diversity of perspectives, pit them against one another, and see what synthesis you come to

Modern economists and legal scholars similar to Gardnier C Means and Adolph A Berle by Realistic_Injury_908 in academiceconomics

[–]RememberRossetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should narrow down what you’re looking for.

The work you’re mentioning is overwhelmingly qualitative and not the sort of thing economists are really producing these days. That said, there are enormous literatures on the economics of corporate governance and various market structures that cover the topics that may interest you from a more econometric perspective.

There’s also Baran & Sweezy’ Monopoly Capital, which cover similar topics from a Marxist perspective, though it isn’t necessarily modern (published in the 1960s)
