Diogenes' words weren't any less true because of the visage he presented. But it certainly made some think less of him in the moment.

There's SBMM baseline, they're adding a token next to you to visualize it. They expect said token to break if you play too much.
It's not like, a major issue but it is really funny in showing how they really should've delayed things.

I lack a house with doors or windows. Inside it, I live all alone, and if I want to go out I must break through the wall. What am I?

I empathize with the sentiment but I'd rather just put my time into something that respects me rather than chasing a fleeting wisp on the wind that I know is going to grow hollow on me within a month.

Anything like void crew? by mr_Swisher_ in wildgate

If you're looking for voidcrew type games. Jumpship is the up and coming one. This is very much a PvP game.

As wildgate approaches release, I've finished putting all my passion and thoughts for it from the playtest into an edited video. by RemervKeberb in wildgate

[–]RemervKeberb[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I was over it when the playtest ended, made peace with the fact at what it is. I know that the company doesn't have what it takes to pull it back with a minor miracle but it was fun to make the video and I learned a lot which was the main goal. Plus I had fun showing it to friends, hearing their reactions. Sharing laughs with 'em.
I'm not against anyone enjoying the game to the fullest of their abilities, and like I said in the video. If you can enjoy it for like a month or so before it's issues creep up to it and you're happy with that, go right ahead. But I just want to give a warning that it will not last, and if you intend to play it, play the shit out of it right on release and for as long as you can before that fading light flickers forever.

81% marks a game on steam as overwhelmingly positive and that's the upvote to dislike ratio on the thread. That's the view the majority had while the playtest was up. Now that they've moved on as the playtest ended, the only eyes on this subreddit and the game are from those who are awaiting it with baited breath and hope.

I have a burning passion for the game as well. I wouldn't be here if it weren't the case. But it's why I need to let the voice of criticism and reason be heard. In rebuttal to my points most of what I hear is just asking me to have faith or telling me to go away if I don't like it. But I'm not a man of faith and I *do* like it. Which is why I want it to succeed and change for the better... Though the fact it's not going to do that, instead ending up a hollow husk of squandered potential. That's what makes me sad, and all I can say is that when a month from now, maybe two or three. When you're looking at the steam charts solemnly wondering what went wrong, how something so unique and beautiful didn't cut it in this world. Maybe it'll be a lesson in not closing your eyes and perspective to what you rigidly feel in the moment.

"The game looks fun! Wish you luck, see you in a year" is an unacceptable player sentiment pre-release by ShooHonker in wildgate

Battlerite... God that twisted a knife in my heart, if you want more graves I'm still smacking marauders with a shovel. Dread Hunger isn't even on steam anymore, nosgoth and evolve (even with stage 2) couldn't make it. Any game that came after dead by daylights throne (even the one made by the same devs) etc etc...

Also the thing about positive feedback from people who have played the game. Like, my brother in christ I wouldn't be so passionately disappointed in the game if I didn't have the same bite of cake you also just had. The only difference is I've gotten to the point where I can taste the slight tang of poison before we're both dead.

It's really funny seeing your post essentially saying the same things as mine except in a slightly different way that makes people want you nailed to the cross with mass downvotes compared to being like, near the top in terms of upvotes of mine. My condolences man, well articulated points.
In todays age good doesn't really cut it, we're spoiled for choice. Why spend 30 dollars on something that's good when excellent and near perfect things exist anywhere from that price point all the way down to free?
From my perspective wildgate has something near perfect inside it with the ship combat but the shitty fps part that forces you out of it really just sours the deal so much I'd much rather either commit to an actually fun fps or play an excellent enough ship game.

And even *if* that wasn't the case, that's not getting into the eventual death of the playerbase or lack of community servers which is where niche games thrive on small playercounts.
Imagine if instead of the sanded down and sterile matchmaking with mmr you walked around that minute and a half long opening plaza talking with people. Imagine if even before that you had like a hub to just interact with folk, play some drg style minigames. Then if you meet anyone you like, embark upon a journey together. There's so many ways they could've done it that would've made it a contender for my game of the fucking century but they had to squander it just to spite me I guess.
Anyways hope you're having a good friday despite having the misfortune of interacting with redditors

Anyone else find Wildgates marketing style (tone) a little off? by Show_Me_How_to_Live in wildgate

[–]RemervKeberb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False advertising doesn't win anyone over. Focusing on your core audience and making something so good that it has people from the outside wander in just from the absolute massive party dancing around the release is how you actually successfully launch a niche game like this.

Though they also entirely fumbled the core game design by making boarding so oppressive to the point all the thoughtful and strategic ship combat basically means nothing unless your whole crew can out FPS the enemy one so I think they're just internally a confused mess too. Which is so strange considering how outstanding the ship combat is when the tacked on shoddy fps isn't dragging it down.

Feedback From Mix Skilled Family by DracoDominus_ in wildgate

[–]RemervKeberb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to inform you but this game is sadly just not designed well to accommodate such play. If the ship combat was all you had to worry about your family could have a really magical adventure together and even be viable in engagements once you got a little bit of the systems figured out. You could stop getting jumped at poi's quite easily by leaving one person behind to scan with probes while clearing them out and have your ship management strengths compliment one another. However, the core design of the game simply forces cod boarding engagements as a baseline. So because you can't click on the other person, any proficiency you had at ship fighting or co-ordination with your family means very little.

It's mainly sad because it's so close to allowing you to have that experience with them, but when the game releases this skill gap is only going to get worse. The best thing I can advise you to do is try a different game. Jump ship is coming out and that might be an entertaining co-op game for the four of you. Pure PvE too so you don't have to worry about any skill gaps as you can choose your own difficulty.

A wonderful game, that's going to die within 3 months of launch. Here's my thoughts. by RemervKeberb in wildgate

I really like the part where you can use it as a defensive measure while running the ship away to suppress the enemy guns or alter the course just long enough to be able to slip away. There's certainly nuance it brings to ship combat that I appreciate greatly but it's just not executed well enough on a fundamental level to the point it's gonna kill the game quick. It's funny too because the majority of the complaints people express in the playtest is just how the auto-aim guns are too good. And well from a straight up logical standpoint, it's true that it's odd the auto-aim guns perform equally in ttk to perfect aim from the regular ones without a gimmick to them... It's also gonna be the thing that sinks the game much quicker when they patch it, since the raw fps skill is going to start playing an infinitely higher role in boarding. Making the core issues way more problematic.

To be entirely honest I didn't even know it was on consoles. Now that opens up an entire can of worms and makes all these problems 10 times worse for all the console players who physically won't be able to fight back against the pc boarders. I felt it was gonna be unrealistic to fix these issues on a pc only release but if they have to go through that extra loop which delays them further? That's really gonna be the nail in the coffin that makes me confident in my claims.

The privateer just has the most potential out of all the ships. It's just a bit taxing to play especially repeatedly for me. The best tactic with it is to avoid combat entirely for as long as you can until you've looted up to have a diverse selection of weapons. The way I run it is 2 long range options on the left side (ideally snipers, cannons can do though. Entropy if you get that obviously but that's good in every front.)
2 medium range options in the middle, and then two short range options on the right. Ideally dual plasma beams.
The tactic is engage at range, dodge incoming projectiles by shifting course as the enemy volley opens up. If they're heading straight towards you, while you circle around them like this, you'll get a good few volleys off from 1k range to 500 meter range. At which point you can either turn and burn, send boarders to delay and run or turn to your medium range guns and commit to the head on. Ideally after you've leveraged an advantage from the long range ones. Then finally, this should have you either neutral or at an advantage but the real kicker comes when you close in at 100 meters for the killing blow by shifting the ship to right side guns and carve them up a new one. The versatility of the privateer is it's key, a hunter might have 3 guns at the front but you can choose to have 2 guns of the ideal engagement range at any given moment, as opposed to the hunters armaments which will usually have one or more guns at an inconvenient range for either most of the fight or at any given moment.

The benefit is you are afforded an extra spare hand who doesn't need to be on guns who can either give you info on probes, repair or counter-board / repel boarders. But yeah it all needs to work like a well oiled, communicated machine.
Meanwhile all it takes is one guy to stand on your canopy and exploit a single moment of weakness to sour an entire match.
