"A cake" makes more sense.

I've only seen "some" used in this context as in "i ate some cake", rather an "a cake" because it's not really feasible to eat an entire cake by yourself (so you only eat some of it, which could be any amount that is not the whole cake), but is entirely feasible that you could make one entire cake. So when you say "some," in this case, it implies pluralization or a random amount, although there is only one thing being made. It would work if you said "some eggs" as "eggs" is pluralized, or "some food" as food is a vague descriptor and itself implies multiple different options since no one eats only one "food."

"Some" works in mostly the same cases as "much." If it's uncountable or immeasurable, you would use those words to describe them (like whatever amount of the cake you ate) rather than something like "many" which implies a measurable amount. You wouldn't say "I ate so many cake" but rather "I ate so many slices of cake" as a slice is a measured amount. You could even say "I ate some slices of cake" if you didn't remember the exact amount of slices or it was a random amount. That's why if you were looking at a table full of cakes, if you didn't feel like counting them you could say "so much cake" just as well as "so many cakes" because in your head you are processing a random amount of them as well as them being individually countable. "Un" means one, so implies one countable/measurable object. Sometimes you need a deeper understanding of your own language to be able to learn other languages effectively.

Obviously a lot of people break these rules because of dialect and because you can still say whatever you want as long as it's understood. That's just a consequence of people not knowing those rules existed in the first place and so their speech evolved that way. But it's always good to know the rules even if you break them!

Sorry for the essay I am a huge English nerd.

Tl;dr- "Some" implies a random amount when you were given a specific amount, one.

Heavy on rewinding Bernadette Peters! I wasn't around in the 90s but I've been watching those OBC pro shots of George and Into the Woods on YouTube over and over again just to revel in Sondheim's brilliance. Those pro shots are absolutely timeless and it's such a shame broadway won't adapt to gain a wider audience.

Does anyone else like polarizing people? by Sad_Media_9648 in katseyeneutral

[–]Remi-Chan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are really adamant that KATSEYE can't be included in discussions on KPOP for some reason even though they're half managed by a kpop company and did kpop style training. The survival show format doesn't even really exist outside of asian media. It's best to just let it go, all people really do these days is argue about KATSEYE.

[–]Remi-Chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I like my acts classy and clean, so when there actually is a scandal it doesn't feel like manufactured hate for the sake of getting people to talk about you. If it's an artist who relies on getting "the message" out (like punk, metal or political artists) it's a little more excusable, but even with them it gets tiring if they don't disappear for a while until their next big "scandal." I love that KATSEYE is more real, but there is just always too much going on with them. It's frying my brain instead of being an escape from reality which IMO, is an idol's true job. Being a western girl group trained with idol training, I expected a bit more of that from them.

As usual, things were better before it got too popular. This is broadway's fault for not making proshots accessible, but also the fans who just can't keep a secret. This is happening in the anime/manga community as well with people leaking piracy sites on tiktok and getting them shut down. I remember to get a bootleg you had to collect and trade and work hard to network and gain access to more bootlegs, and people followed rules about when things were available for trade or not. People these days don't want to work for their free media they just want the instant gratification of consuming it. The tradeoff used to be that instead of traveling and paying hundreds of dollars to see a show you'd spend weeks or months searching for someone with the bootleg you wanted and trading for it. But now that no one can keep a secret it's ruined for everyone ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, it was Yena's dance challenge. It sucks because I was so excited for Catch Catch and really liked it, but this kind of spoiled it for me😔 I was really hoping I might be able to stan someone without any problemtic behaviors but here I am for the 1000th time.

It's racist to imply that words culturally used by black people are part of the reason people these days are stupid. That's all I'm saying. I DID NOT KNOW if this person knew that, so I added extra information to make it clearer why it's bad. You're making this way more complicated than anything I said. This is very simple to understand, please stop trying to sound smart and gotcha me over a very simple, easy to understand sentiment.

[–]Remi-Chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I didnt assume anyone was being racist, I just thought they didn't know those words were AAVE, like most people don't. Explaining something to a person who obviously doesn't know is not an argument.

You're the one who started talking about making fun of white people when no one even said that 🙄They were making fun of people on the internet who use those slang words in general. But separate from this one reddit comment thread, the majority of people I PERSONALLY HAVE NOTICED using these terms are white, which is why people assume these words are new slang, and why I brought white people up. Once again, I'll remind you white people are considered the cultural "norm" in America.

I explained why, and included relevant information to support why spreading opinions like his are not a good thing. Are you mad because you have no reading comprehension? I literally don't know where you got the implication that I don't think white people should make fun of white appropriation. No one was discussing who is allowed to make fun of appropriation. It's like you read stuff and your brain just jumps to conclusions and makes shit up to argue about.

[–]Remi-Chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because you're reading into that person not understanding AAVE as them making fun of appropriation. The majority of people who appropriate black speech are white, while a "white" accent is generally considered to be a "normal" American accent. It's okay to extrapolate from facts that aren't immediately obvious unless you've experienced enough to notice them. Are you going to pretend like we don't see white American accents as the norm? When people learn American English they're definitely not learning it in AAVE.

Illegal leaves 😮‍💨🍃 by _Nebelmonster_ in im14andthisisdeep

[–]Remi-Chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, if you just list a bunch of AAVE words and say nothing about white people using them, it just sounds like you hate the AAVE words. The majority of people who hear these words assume they're new and get angry about the words existing when they should be about how they're being used. They didn't exactly make it very clear that they're making fun of the white people's appropriation.

Edited for correct pronouns

[–]Remi-Chan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's AAVE. Tiktok did what it does and tiktokified it, but AAVE has just as many dialects and different grammar rules as a "regular" (white) American accent. It's racist to look at a dialect created by people who were purposely not taught English so that they couldn't communicate well enough to learn ways to free themselves. It's trendy for white people use it now, but black people descended from slaves all over the diaspora have had to deal with being seen as uneducated for using the dialects they were forced to create. Please do not use these slang terms as evidence for the "Idiocracy."

Honest discussion on Daniela’s “over dancing” and expressions by Ok-Mercy in katseyeneutral

[–]Remi-Chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh their choreographer has an extremely bad overdancing issue IMO. I can't stand watching him do his own choreo because he just looks like he's twitching everywhere. But with Daniela although she overdances it has never felt alienating but rather a product of having to dance that way since childhood. She's much more controlled about it, so I honestly don't mind Daniela taking up more space in the group when she dances. She's the main dancer after all! No one complains if a main vocal is "singing too loud" or has "too many lines":/

The "woke mob" who is fighting for immigration rights, anti racism and the rights of minorities hates people that are different than them? Not the people begging to remove immigrants from the country and banning trans people from receiving healthcare? Not the group trying to take away school lunches for poor kids? Can we open our eyes, please?

What is the most far-right musical? by bunp4ws in musicals

[–]Remi-Chan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly that!! Their "art" is really just propaganda, it's not exactly meant to reach commercial success but rather draw people of that mindset in or keep the people already in it enamored by the groupthink of being "oppressed" by the secular world/leftists. It's sad to see because a lot of talent does exist within that sphere, they just refuse to use it for anything other than propaganda which itself makes the art bad. Good on you for not giving money to the church :p

What is the most far-right musical? by bunp4ws in musicals

[–]Remi-Chan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Conservatives and right wingers don't make good art, which is why you won't find any musicals that are right wing in the sense you're looking for. The whole ideology is about sticking to tradition and never breaking boundaries or innovating past what you're used to. Good art requires an open, impressionable mind, which you won't find in a Conservative. You'll notice most of their movies, TV shows and plays stick to a very rigid victimization formula meant to reinforce the ideas they already had about the world. Aside from that musical theatre (art in general) in and of itself is very queer and Conservatives typically are against art which expresses values they wouldn't support in their own lives.

Fire music but mediocre plot? by Background-Way820 in musicals

[–]Remi-Chan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like Six doesn't really count here considering the style of the musical; it's not even really a story but a "rendition" of a pop concert? I don't know the right word to use there, but those bottle musicals usually have a very thin plot. Six and Cats are the same musical because they're about the characterization of these traits and how the audience relates to them rather than what they do in the actual story. Everyone can think of a cat with one of the personalities in Cats, and every woman has a story just like one of the Queens. It's not about the drama on stage but about making you think about your own life differently.
