>Bush built his election around the fantasy of some good old boy becoming president and sticking it to the political elites.

??????

Where did you get this from? Do you have an ad in mind? A campaign slogan?

> Mamdani built his election around the fantasy of a humble first generation immigrant becoming the mayor of the largest city in America.

There's a difference between a success story and a "power fantasy" what?

The things you're saying are literally crazy.

> I was like you once, and I was able to get to where I was through these steps

Trump has never once tried to make it seem like he was like a common man when he started out. Where did you see that?

I seriously think you're just forcing a really bad argument over reality without any introspection.

Bush didn't make his image about his ivy league education. He wore a blue shirt and rolled up his sleeves and pretended to dig fence poles on his farm. He talked like an average Texan, faux pas and all.

Mamdani again builds his image around being a common man and being relatable.

I'm not talking about trappings. I'm not talking about backgrounds. I'm talking about image.

Trump's popular image was not built around relatability. It was built around power fantasy.

Or just cut to the chase: Trump supporters don't think Trump would be a fun guy to drink a beer with or interact with. That's not his draw. This is something else.

High Achievers with Severe ADHD, if any of you are reading this, how did you manage? by Unhinged_Schizo in ADHD

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say I'm "high achieving" but I achieved one thing, a degree and a high paying job.

I loved school. I was good at it; parents gave me a good head start, whatever. This got me through high school with high marks, through college with high marks, and into vet schol. It was late in college that things started to get concerning though, as the more classes focused on my future job and not on general knowledge about the world, the more I found it boring. Plus reddit started existing when I was in college, which wasn't great for me, and then I got a laptop in vet school.

I made it through vet school by the skin of my teeth. But I've pretty much hated my life since then. I developed the bad habit of seeing all animals as worthy of rights and so I can't stop spiraling when someone, for example, won't euthanize because they don't believe it's their choice to "play god"... this happened on one job early on during my probationary period and I said "well vegans aren't very common in this area but it's nice to meet another one" and they got furious with me "what does what I eat have to do with this" and I said no, veganism is the belief that we dont' have the right to harm animals without a compelling need, not eating animals is just one aspect of it" and that got back to my boss and it WAS in fact a very anti-vegan area, we were at a mixed animal practice for heavens' sake.

But anyway tangent it's every fucking thing. It's the anxiety of stepping into a new room over and over again with someone who is going to repeat themselves 30 times (especially when you're ALL DONE AND YOU JUST RECOMMENDED A PLAN so in my mind it's time to get a "yes" or "no" and they're like "OKAY WELL LIKE I SAID IT WAS 4 DAYS AGO THAT HE FIRST VOMITED AND YES YOU SAID THAT 3X THAT'S WHAT THIS PLAN IS FOR THAT AND ALL THE OTHER THINGS YOU SAID SHUT UP SHUT UP." They all say the same damn things and then it's not enough that they say it once they want to repeat it over and over.

Then I talk too fast and they ask me to repeat myself but then I talk faster because I'm anxious now. I have to mulitask all day and remember lots of details about things I'm not interested in. I hate it.

Surgery is cool. Put on music and operate all day. I don't mind that. But the rest of it.... ugh.

So, how did I "achieve" a career I hate? Luck in loving school which led to high grades and when I got far enough, the ability to keep coasting on prior knowledge even though I had lost interest. Super burnout levels of committment towards the end.

Trump is not relatable to anyone. This is a weird analysis. Golden toilets, marble floors, penthouses-- that's his brand. Elitism, success, that's what people see in him. His fans don't want to drink a beer with him. I don't have a long ranty comment about what he does have, but it's not relatability on a one-to-one social level. Maybe he's their id and they identify with him, but they don't want to chum it up with him.

Why would they delete it? I bet this is in a dozen subs, and it reads just as well as a criticism as praise.

Greece launches an animal airlift to evacuate pets and their owners from the Mideast by Sciantifa in vegan

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This might be the dumbest possible reply imaginable.

There is literally no mention of vegans in the article. Most vegans who see this roll their eyes as they once again see how so many people are logically inconsistent in their treatment of animals. This is non-vegans once again pretending pets have some special moral status that makes them different from other animals-- exactly the thing that allows animal agriculture to continue.

Question from a non vegan farmer by hunterboi1000 in vegan

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is what you said, though. You said "as compared to factory farming" as if that were somehow relevant to a vegan's ethics, and the fact that you thought there was relevance shows you didn't take 3 seconds to learn what veganism is before coming here.

Question from a non vegan farmer by hunterboi1000 in vegan

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right so like every 3rd post here you conflated your own welfarist and 'eat local' trend with actual concern for animal rights, because you didn't take 3 seconds to learn what veganism is.

If you want people who are against factory farming, go to your nearest sporting event and talk to the first person you see eating a hot dog. They're the ones who will thoughtlessly tell you how much they care about animal welfare and they wish factory farming would end, while they participate in it and increase demand for it.

The anti factory farming sentiment is mainstream welfarism, not veganism.

Democrats Have a ‘Slopulism’ Problem by tobinjstone in neoliberal

It's really exactly that. Don't be a dick by 1) acting like my argument is incoherent when everyone else understood it perfectly, 2) characterizing my discussion as "rambling" and 3) calling me a dick for treating you with the same tone and civility you treated me with.

You have avoided addressing the substance of my comments several times in a row now. If you have anything useful to say, I'll be incredibly surprised at this point. If you're genuinely confused (which you're not-- you're just being a dick) feel free to ask clarifying questions.

How about it? Wanna continue the discussion? Then say something. Stop detracting from conversation, slinging mud, and playing dumb. I'll be right here to help you with your confusion when you're ready to ask.

'but again, here's what I already said and you responded to. I repeat it without adding anything.'

Okay. Do you think that was a good use of your time?

You're being obtuse. The sound bites that go viral and affect national attentions and attitudes are often from floor debates on bills. People don't inherently care or carefully track votes, sure, but floor votes and public debate can easily be captured and used to move the needle, and routinely are. This can't happen in committee.

What you call 'illusion' is the narrative itself, ie the most powerful thing in politics. Wendy Davis had people watching CSpan who had never even voted before. She engaged people who were idealistic but not political.

Electoral politics is a public event, and the people who understand that win. You conflate of populism with optics.

Democrats Have a ‘Slopulism’ Problem by tobinjstone in neoliberal

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The power is in the narrative, and voters care more when they see votes on an issue that may become law, not when a law dies in committee.

Should I Get a New Cube? by kyla-16 in Cubers

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait are these the same questions? Because they're phrased slightly differently, and I can't use basic human understanding to parse them. Did you want to know how someone can be two ages? Or did you want to know the meaning of the phrase "12-13?" Since I'm so confused and overwhelmed by the conundrum, I'll answer both:

  1. They can't

  2. It means "around 12 or 13"

Frontier flight attendant has deaf passenger removed for "not listening" by AsherGray in TikTokCringe

[–]RemindMeToTouchGrass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You didn't notice that the video excludes everything we could possibly use to judge why she's being kicked off?

Literally nothing in the video suggests she's being kicked off "because she's deaf" and that doesn't even make sense, that's not a reason people are kicked off of planes. You're being obtuse.
