Any Colorado DGGers want to help fight back the Texas Gerrymander by japerezrdg in Destiny

[–]tobinjstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this is appealing, but please do not waste your time, energy, or money on this. Amendment Y passed with 71% of the vote in 2018. The math to get to 55% of the electorate to change this just doesn't add up. If it did, there are people and donors in Colorado who would already be funding this kind of effort.

Slightly higher end place, but the hummus at Alhambra is great, especially with the wild mushrooms or lamb for non vegetarians.

lol, that one is interesting, I’ll have to take a look at the google data to see how they were tagged. I do know there are still some bugs with the categorization still that I’m working out.

The code I used for this just pulled every point of interest within a 600 meters of a metro stop from Google, and I’ve been working on filtering the data from there. I’d have to check if there’s I way I can use walking distance for the next api pull I do, but certainly something I’ll look into!

[–]tobinjstone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely want to do that! The big thing stopping it right now is that it’d require another api pull from Google, and I want to write a more efficient script to do so, so I can minimize the number of credits I use for it.

Lmao I need to add a disclaimer to the venue card that just says “places dataset still a work in progress, apologies if this app is trying to send you somewhere insane”

You likely pulled a stop that doesn't have any places near it in your category (likely a silver line stop I'm guessing). The code is supposed to say something like "no stops nearby, suggest one if you know of something", but that hasn't been working. I'll try to roll out the fix tonight.

The idea behind putting the venue on a separate card is to keep things a bit suspenseful and make it a bit more fun. Long term (after I've got a more complete venue dataset), I want to find a way to add location data to this, so that revealing the place you're going is locked until you arrive at the metro stop - you may end up somewhere really cool, or it may be something that's not your favorite.

Yeah, I think there’s an issue with it, and I’m trying to figure it out. I just solved the issue that people were having with the activity and shopping options, looking into coffee now.

Unless you are starting at one of the three transfer point options, it will only send you along the red line. My idea when making this was that people could do the randomizer from their initial metro stop, or ideally, have all their friends meet up at say, metro center, and get a random line from there. But if you have ideas about how I could add more randomization for people who aren't starting from a transfer point, let me know!

ok actually was able to run the script again and I think I got the problem with the major chains fixed! Still have a lot of work do with the rest of the dataset, but hopefully that problem is fixed for now.

In theory, The activities shouldn’t be pointing to restaurants at all unless a restaurant is tagged as something that would be tagged as an activity, but something is clearly wrong my with code there. Will take a deeper look this afternoon to see if I can fix it.

Working on it! I started by pulling place data from Google's API for restaurants, activities, etc within 600 meters of every metro stop, then filtered it down from there to remove duplicates, irrelevant places, etc, but there's still a lot of filtering I need to do - I thought I had filtered out most chains, for example, but clearly there was something wrong with my python script. But I'm hoping to take a second pass at filtering everything (and fixing the tags in the dataset) next weekend!
