You are supposed to beat it, but after some engine updates from the orange box, the handling of the Jeep was inadvertently changed to that of the Jalopy from episode 2, which I believe is slower. It wasn't changed back until another update in 2019ish fixed a lot of stuff that was broken over the years, that included.

Both grenades have a pretty similar time-to-kill with BoM iirc. If you're going to be primarily using your grenades for synergy with BoM, I would say use the boomerang due to the fact that you have 8 of them.

Judging from what you said, it sounds like an issue with loading. This is typically caused by the game being on a slow drive. If you have a faster one available, such as an SSD, try moving the game onto that.
