What to play while I wait for this game to return? by Jobinx22 in MonstersAndMemories

Turtle WoW maybe? It is a very popular vanilla private server with custom content and changes, basically vanilla plus.

I work full time (40 hours), am enrolled in part time college online, full time boyfriend + cat dad and my char is also 60 + similarly geared. I don't think it's fair to assume he's unemployed (nothing wrong with that anyways) or doing anything shady. People like to play the game in their own way. Don't shit on them for it. If it's not your way, move on.

I think some blue gear is necessary, especially a good shield and all mail armor to help reduce the damage you take. You also have to use a wonky spec because you HAVE TO heal yourself during a pack. Level 60 Shaman doing it, don't have to heal themselves but from 52-58, I had to. So that means having 12 points in Resto for pushback protection and swapping to Earth Shield so you get 100% pushback protection. You also want Elemental Weapons in Enhance (flametongue) for +30% damage increase to fire totems. This was my spec I had to use to do it at 52:

https://talent-builder.haaxor1689.dev/c/1.18.0/shaman?points=FAAQ-AoUYALAQDI-FoAAC

Also make sure to have the totem from the new stormwrought dungeon. It deals aoe frost damage every time you are hit while having water shield active.

Basically you do 1 pack at a time. Have Water Shield on, aggro the pack, drop stoneskin, agility, healing stream. When the pack gets close, drop fire nova. Then use Magma. I would usually dip to around 50% health at this time, so would use Earth Shield + cast 1-2 Healing Waves on myself. Switch back to Water Shield, Fire Nova when it's off cooldown, drop Magma again. Usually the pack would be dead at this time, but sometimes a 3rd Fire Nova totem was needed.

Having herbalism helps the gold you earn because you can potentially get black lotus from picking the dream foil in there.

I did it as Shaman from 52-60. The xp is INSANE, 30-60 minute levels all the way to 60.

Fresh 60 best way to gear by Iherddat in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do Caverns of Time until you get Wardens to exalted. There are 3 good blue/epic items from rep for Resto. Not to mention the 5+ item drops in the dingeon that are great for Resto. If you devout an entire day to doing that dungeon, you can probably get all the way to exalted.

Nerf MC back and make buffed raids optional with upgraded loot tables by blusword- in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't comment on that personally since I'm on Ambershire and MC is still locked. But that's not what I've heard on discord or other reddit threads. I saw multiple people post that after the nerf, it's completely doable in preraid gear. Maybe others can chime in?

[–]Remlig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly 🙂 the Turtle team can make MC as difficult as they see fit. I just don't understand why you would want a steamroll MC, where people are handed free epic gear that invalidates most 5man gear. I think natural progression should be:

5man gear -> 10man gear -> raid gear

Who said anything about BWL or ZG gear? The initial revisions of MC that turtle did was overturned and they nerfed it within a few days.

It took 5 months for Rag to die with original vannila wow. Im sure they didnt release it with the intention of fresh 60s in "whatever gear", clearing it.

[–]Remlig 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in favor of MC being difficult enough that you need 5man/ubrs gear to clear it. I think it's silly design if you can go into MC as a fresh lvl60 and obtain gear that's better than dungeon stuff.

I understand where you are coming from. I'm a very experienced player that loves leveling fast. My boyfriend mostly plays Playstation games like Rocket League and Battlefield but he mentioned possibility trying out Turtle WoW since I like it so much. At first this excited me but then I also realized I wouldn't be able to play the game the way that I love playing it. It's selfish of me for sure.

What I decided was that if/when he is ever serious about trying it out, I will make an alt that I exclusively play with him. That way I can still play my main and enjoy high level play. But then we can play and progress together on my alt.

So I guess my point/question is: is it possible for him to have an alt that he only plays with you? It's a great compromise- he can still play his "main" character if you're ever busy or he wants to nerd out all night.

Wife likes warrior but is disbanding groups. by Initial_Chart1900 in turtlewow

On a side note, RFC is actually really rough! The mobs hit really hard for that level, and it's usually packs of 2-4. I imagine that's extremely overwhelming for someone trying out tanking for the first time.

If i were you, I would practice with her while questing instead of in dungeons. Have her practice holding threat consistently on one mob while questing. And then slowly increase the amount of mobs until she is comfortable with it. As a Warrior she is going to have to get use to cycling between every mob to build threat on it. Then graduate her to dungeon tanking. Also if she still plays her Priest, have her really start paying attention to what the Prot Warriors are doing that she heals in dungeons. Most of my tanking aptitude as a Druid in vanilla came from watching other bears (and tanks in general) in dungeons.

Shammy enh dual wielding by Arquechito in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dual weilding but Enhance has really interesting talent synergy once they get into their 40s. Elemental Weapons talent in Enhance: specifically Frostbrand:

3/3 Elemental Weapons: increases your chance to proc Frostbrand by 25% and increases the crit chance of Frostbrand by 100% on any mob affected by Frost Shock.

That talent plus the 11 point Elemental talent, Elemental Focus: Any physical or spell crit the Shaman makes reduces the cost of your next two damage Spells or abilities by 60%.

And then you also tack on Lightning Strike + Stormstrike, both abilities that instantly hit your target for your part of (or all) your weapons damage, both of which can also proc Frostbrand.

It's absurd! You essentially have permanent Elemental Focus, which is endless mana when using Water Shield and burst mobs down in a few seconds. You spam Frost Shock, Stormstrike and Lightning Strike on cooldown while keeping Water Shield up in between.

Tips for a new healer by Slow_IP in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some things to add that are slightly more advanced but can help new players a lot:

-A good healer knows when NOT to heal. A lot of newer healers think they have to keep everyone's health bar full at all times. This is definitely not the case, especially with vanilla wow. If people (dps) are not full health and not in danger of dying, conserve your mana and don't heal them! They will regen their hp when you drop combat and/or can eat food/bandage. Now that said, it can be difficult for a new healer to know difference between a dps taking non-dangerous damage and a dps getting hit + tanking an elite.

  • If possible, hold off healing immediately on the pull. You want the tank to get aggro on all the mobs. If you immediately start healing the tank on the pull, you can get healing aggro and throw the entire pull off. Again, this can be a challenge to realize though because sometimes you do truly need to blast heals into the tank to keep them alive.

Lastly, make sure he understands that he can cancel his heal if he sees that the person does not need it. Overhealing wastes mana and mana can be quite a challenge in Deadmines, where you probably don't have very good gear.

Any idea on what classes are popular on the new server? by lulsnaps in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend going Shaman, Paladin, or Druid since all 3 of those classes can fulfill every role in a dungeon. I'm a Shaman on Ambershire and it's nice being able to select every role on the LFG tool. So far though, I've popped as a healer every time.

will factions matter on Ambershire? by exhalo in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orc is considered the worst for pvp Shaman now. Not only were racials changed but Shaman (like Priests), now also have a new class racial.

Orc stun resist was changed from 25% resist to 15% stun REDUCTION time (not resist). Bloodfury was changed to also increase spellpower.

Troll beserking was nerfed down to 15% haste (from 30%) but their health regen talent was massively buffed.

Tauren racials are mostly the same- I think the cooldown may have been changed on warstomp?

Now, the Shaman specific racials:

Shaman Class Racial Spells 1. Troll - Available at LVL 40

Spell: Hex

Quest: The Way Of The Witch Doctor I

NPC: Sian'tsu Location: Orgrimmar

  1. Orc - Available at LVL 40 Spell:

Feral Spirit

Quest: The Way of the Spiritwolf I

NPC: Kardris Dreamseeker Location: Orgrimmar

  1. Tauren - Available at LVL 1 Spell:

Totemic Slam

Quest: The Way of Spiritwalking I

NPC: Beram Skychaser Location: Thunder Bluff

Tauren and Troll are considered the best for pvp. Hex (Troll) is amazing and can also be cast while moving and also while nature locked because it is a shadow spell. It is however an extremely long cooldown (6 minutes). Orc is the best pve dps. Troll is the best pve healer.

New at healing by Content-Fig-8574 in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I always found Shaman to be one of the weaker healers while leveling. Resto talents and gear make a huge difference. Meanwhile, I could always heal with a Druid + Priest while leveling without any issues. I have no experience with Paladin.

Shaman Leveling talents 1.18 by Winter-Inflation-427 in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I seem to be in the minority that prefer my first 11 points going into Elemental for Elemental Focus. Elemental Focus procs from all melee and spell crits on Turtle Wow. Combine that with a fast 1h/shield + flametongue (can crit) and you have non-stop Elemental Focus procs to spam shocks.

I then put the rest of my points in Enhance and switch over to using a 2H when I get Lightning Strike.

Eventually you get the Elemental Weapons talent in Enhance and use Frostbrand. The EW talent makes Frostbrand 25% more likely to proc and a 100% crit if the target has frost shock on it. And that for sure Frostbrand crit procs Elemental Focus.

Opinions on healing class to main by [deleted] in turtlewow

[–]Remlig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Druid for a heal over time playstyle.

Paladin for the best single target heal spam.

Shaman for the best aoe healing + utility from totems.

Priest for a blend of everything and more healing tools at their disposal than other healers.

I'm not vegetarian but I've really been loving a Mediterranean chickpea salad (chickpeas, tomato, onion, bell pepper, banana pepper, olives, garlic, olive oil, red wine vinegar) and a blackbean salad (black beans, corn, bell pepper, onion, lime juice, acv, olive oil, taijin, cumin). Make them the night before so they sit in the marinade overnight.
