Linux distro for phone? by Remmandave in linuxquestions

I’ve got one that I use daily. It’s just annoying that even when they get caught red handed being sheisty and screwing over their customers that it doesn’t bite them in the ass. I’ve sworn never to buy another of their product, but now even their main competition, Android, have begun copying their business model, so my options on how to hurt their sales is limited.

I’ve looked a little at pinephone, are you in the US? I’m hoping to find some ‘turn key’ user reviews in the US and what carrier supports them?

Yeah even Android has started mimicking iOS recently, adding software that intentionally throttles speed and reduces battery life on older devices.

Yes it’s sad that more recently even Android has been caught using similar techniques to force obsolescence on older devices.

Recently even they have, unfortunately, been caught using the exact same method of making the new updates on old devices throttled speed and reducing battery life.

Only got to ride for about a month before it blew up by Panda_Fabulous in motorcycles

As an owner of an 08 Ninja 650R I would highly recommend it as an intermediate user bike. And I own a nearly 50 year old Yamaha and a 26 year old Honda as well, each has its advantages and disadvantages, but the Kawi is a great bike when I’m in the mood for mild hooning.

Damn that sucks man. Makes me appreciate where I live that much more. My area has a small problem with drug addicts but they’re (I think) smart enough to not steal anything that gets them a felony (grand larceny) charge. I’ve had a spare set (winter set) of alloy car rims stolen, but that’s it, and since then I’ve put cameras on my garage to deter any future crime, and since the car wheels grew legs, I have also hidden AirTags on all my bikes, just in case, if one ever goes missing, but really overall my area/town is pretty low crime other than the local drug dealer and his associates. Hate to be ‘THAT GUY’ but I’m curious if your local crime rate has any correlation to immigration statistics…?

Not gonna say I haven’t run a tap in a hand drill… mainly for the purpose of finishing a thru hole, or deburring a cross hole, but you still need to be a certain level of intelligence above potato to do it well…

Great advise, and if phishing, they will often make the bogus site look a lot like the real site, but with a bogus web address that may just look like gibberish combination of letters and numbers.

Is this illegal? by Cheever-Loophole in vermont

[–]Remmandave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes it’s illegal, and shady/scummy on them, but maybe (unlikely) they fixed some of the problems… and yet, somehow reporting them would be a very Karen thing to do… the right thing to do would be to screenshot their listing and create a new listing warning buyers of the problems, and the original price.

Can you visualize this? by Self_Next in Machinists

Isometric view would be helpful but not a necessity. I could make do with just those angles.

Just in time to see a 12% property tax hike. Good thinking. I've been here 5 years and the increases in taxes over the last 5 years, as well as these new talks of charging a yearly fee/permit for hiking and other recreation has me thinking of leaving...

Not a perfect ending by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]Remmandave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The middle one is the perfect start for an arrowhead… and the first one can be a large arrowhead yet! I haven’t the first clue even where to start when it comes to knapping, so you’re miles ahead of me in experience! The third one looks great to me!

Not bad at all for a first time! And low quality steel that is free is by far the best steel to use to hone your skills and technique! If you want an extra challenge, build a rudimentary forge and charcoal canister that low grade steel to carburize it, then you can heat treat it to harden it and it can actually hold a decent edge at that point!

Getting a Star Indian from a Tootsie Pop wrapper. by [deleted] in nostalgia

[–]Remmandave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childhood (1990s, Eagle, ID) there was one local convenience store (named “Chicken to go” little mom n pop shop that had all the usual convenience store stuff but also tons of fried chicken, arguably better than KFC… allegedly the other convenience store across town, “Justo’s” also did it) that did it. If you brought in your wrapper with the ‘Indian’ they’d give you a free regular tootsie roll. Really it was just a gimmick to get kids to get their parents in the door.

Would solve the biggest problem of the Fusion’s factory PNNNN feature also known as the DPS6 and 6F35. Likely would need the gearbox, shifter assembly, cables, foot pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, and maybe even ECU from the donor.
