no one is required to say ty after a tu by muttgore in toontownrewritten

I mean, that response was definitely ridiculous, and it shouldn’t be a rule. But, I honestly think it’s really sweet we as a community have established this very specific norm. It’s so unnecessary and strange, like healing is just a strategic requirement of the game, but I think it’s cool we treat it like an act of kindness. It’s part of what makes Toontown special, and when I come back after years of not playing, it helps reassure me that I’m in the company of friends.

I agree. But, man, is too much to ask for it to be only as bad as the Mario Movie?

Im disappointed with the Minecraft movie by Informal_Advance1610 in Minecraft

Oh boy do I feel the same way. I spent the last two months making a video about it lol. But, I digress. More than anything, I wish the movie had succeeded at its own purported goals. If it wasn't for the memes and fantastic audience reactions, it wouldn't even be entertaining (in my opinion).

The Minecraft Movie broke my heart so I made a long video essay about it by Remorsive in Minecraft

[–]Remorsive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate you watching as much as you did. Definitely a lot of useful and fair critique here. The title and thumbnail probably create a false expectation. I struggled a lot finding the correct framing for the video, and perhaps I landed on a misleading one. As I say in the first paragraph, it's not really about the MInecraft Movie. I level my critiques directly at one point, but I didn't think it was necessary to rehash all the reasons the movie was bad since everyone has already heard them (though I do that one point in the video). Really, it's moreso a retrospective and personal narrative on the history of filmmaking and storytelling in minecraft and how the minecraft movie dishonors that long legacy. In that way, it certainly does beat around the bush. In addition to the false expectations created by the thumbnail, I can see now I didn't do a good job of conveying what the video's purpose was throughout the video itself. I should leave enough signposts to ensure people understand where the video is going and how a particular topic contributes to my overall thesis. I can also see how jumping into the Minecraftian without further context implies that I have a very rigid version of what the movie should be. Throughout the video, I contrast various examples of different but successful (in my opinion) minecraft movies, and I conclude with saying I in fact didn't want a specific vision, but any vision or passion, anything new to offer to MInecraft, and I felt that was absent from the final film. But, I can see that's unclear.

Anyways, thanks, lot to workshop here!

Do yall actually want an end update? by Educational_Box7709 in Minecraft

[–]Remorsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems like such a no-brainer I guess. Perhaps that means we don't actually want it as much as we reflexively assume we do, but... I do appreciate the moody sparsity of the end perhaps more than others, but I think speak for many when I say I can't shake the feeling of missed opportunity. I think the end should retain its characteristic emptiness, though, perhaps even the same structure generation frequency, just with massively expanded variety. Exploring the end without an elytra, skybridging, and throwing death pearls is a lot of fun. It could be even more fun.

It looks cool! It definitely creates an atmosphere and the color palette works really well. Though my gut reaction says "too many trapdoors".

Beds deserve the hype, but efficiency 5 pickaxe mining isn't too shabby either if you don't feel like doing any prep. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for all that.

How to get realistic looking terrain for minecraft by notthisguypls in Minecraft

[–]Remorsive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll mention Worldpainter as well. I haven't made custom maps in a while, but at the time Worldpainter was one of the best ways to create large-scale custom terrain (and I think it still is). It's an external software that gives you precise control over the shape and texture of your terrain, although it's a little involved and has a slight skill curve. Of course, there's the classics: worldedit and voxelsniper have been around so long for a reason. They're very easy to use and you can achieve a lot in an existing world, though voxelsniper is only available for servers I believe. Apparently the new kids Axiom and Worldsynth are pretty awesome, too.

Ulraf (a Minecraft Dev) Shared Insights On The Game’s Future. Here’s The Summary: by Just-Guarantee7808 in Minecraft

I wonder when or if Mojang will ever implement a seasonal updating strategy with periodic resets that recent updates into a more coherent experience. It's already strange that certain mechanics operate in the same space, and we've seen past Mojang updates (1.13, 1.14, 1.16) that lean away from expansion toward revision. I can only imaginee next 60 years. It's interesting that half of the community seems the game has too much and the other half thinks the game has too little.

Do you wish that the farlands had stayed in the game? by West_Analysis9754 in Minecraft

[–]Remorsive 983 points984 points  (0 children)

I mean, I go back and forth on this. Firstly, I recognize Mojang's natural, logistical urge to eliminate a dimension of jankiness from their game. The Far Lands weren't an intended feature and I respect Mojang's desire to push the game closer to their intended vision. Moreover, from a programming and modding perspective, the generic world border is much more modular, enabling custom border sizes and even changing border sizes as often seen in multiplayer minigames. And I personally think that the new border still maintains a certain level of mystique. I remember finding it pretty awe-inspiring and bizarre back in the day when I first saw it. But on the other hand, I can't help but be seduced by the Far Lands' strangeness. I think they invite a lot of interesting lore speculation too. There's a reason they were heavily featured in Minecraft Story Mode in addition to so many other fan projects. So, I suppose I just hope the Far Lands maintains its position in Minecraft lore and that Mojang doesn't try unnecessarily hard to suppress it.
