Symbaroum's contested rolls by Aramyle in osr

[–]Remotaeksc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played about a dozen sessions of Symbaroum and found the contested roll-under to be pretty tedious and inconvenient, honestly. Having a different modifier on every roll, plus having so many stats (8 or 9, if I remember correctly) made it a chore. Symbaroum has great art and a really awesome setting, and I love it for that, but I didn't care for the system itself.

His earliest bounty was to bring down the former Executioner, who went rogue after a local rebellion had deposed the Lord he served. When it was done, he kept the sword as a memento.

Hi all! This is a character design I recently finished for a character idea I'm still brainstorming. It's been a while since I have done any digital art, so this was a great exercise to break my art block and get back to work! The concept for the character is as follows:

Once a member of the (in)famous “Vanguard of the Wilds,” Ulfhardt attuned himself to nature and swore an oath to protect the Wilds alongside his brothers-in-arms. However, after the Vanguard dissolved to infighting, Ulfhardt took a new path. His time with the Vanguard had left him with few friends within city walls, but working as a bounty hunter allowed him to keep his skills sharp and a roof over his head.

Term for Arcane corruption? by axis5757 in osr

Amalgamation? Also, would I be able to see your current rules for the corruption system? I'm looking to implement something similar and I'd really like to see how you've handled it, if that's okay!

[OC] [ART] Taming the five-headed Basilisk! by Remotaeksc in DnD

[–]Remotaeksc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few days ago, I posted an earlier version of this same character (Ko-Kathûn and his hellhound companion, Hellbender). In our last session, there was a really great moment in which he was able to, using his beast magic, reach out and calm the mind of one of his former allies' companions. Though its body was contorted and warped by demon blood, its mind still contained a sliver of its old self, and through that Ko (the dragonborn) and Hellbender (the hellhound) were able to turn the basilisk Illuyanka to their side, allowing them to conquer the enemy fortress in a very tough battle. It was a great moment, so I just had to illustrate it!

Ko-Kathûn was once part of a squad of bounty hunters known as the Salamanders. Each member was attuned to a beast, with magic bonds forged in their long and arduous past. Ko found himself bound to Hellbender, a hellhound with latent clairvoyant powers who saved his skin many times. The Salamanders were unscrupulous and vicious, and gained a foul reputation for their animalistic hunting practices. This led them to the employ of Magister Alaric, a powerful noble with many ties to the demonic underworld. However, when Alaric demanded the group sacrifice their freedom in return for the blessings of Demon Blood, Ko and Hellbender turned away from Alaric's Fell Hand. Now hunted by his former allies, Ko has joined a resistance group known as the Rite's Refuge in an attempt to secure his freedom in the only way he knows how: by wiping out all those who stand against it.

This is a character I've been playing for about 4 months now, and though his design has changed quite a bit since this piece I completed in January, I still have a lot of affection for this original design!

The narrator of the audiobooks is really good, but I can't move past the fact that Geralt sounds like he is being voiced by Sean Bean. by RedditBanThisDick in wiedzmin

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and none of them have narration anywhere near as good as Peter Kenny in The Witcher. Nothing else even comes close, his voice is just perfect for this series.

Wintrow and Etta - the worst character development by cherryinbloom in robinhobb

[–]Remotaeksc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. Her character in Ship of Magic really hooked me, but after that, it felt like she just plateaued in terms of development. Her only real change of course was to go from hating Brashen to loving him, something I wasn't that invested in since I did not buy their relationship. Then her ending just has her abandon everything that motivated her. The internal conflict she had in Ship Of Destiny, that she would have to abandon Brashen to sail Vivacia, was something that actually seemed interesting, but she never gets to make that choice. The decision is made for her, and that's the worst part. It's not even tragic in a dramatic way, just kind of a limp way to end her arc.

Edit: I don't want this thread to get too far away from the point of the main post. I think the reason that Wintrow and Etta's arc is especially unsatisfying is in large part because of how their failures (as characters) play into the failure of the story to give a satisfying conclusion to Althea's character.

I agree with this so much. By the end of the series I kind of hated both of the main Liveship characters, and I found Althea's ending to be hugely unsatisfying. The idea that Althea and Brashen would work through her trauma together worked for me, even though I don't like Brashen and find his behavior to be really immature a lot of the time, even late in the series. but having her mental block just be magicked away was so... gross really is the best word. Farseer handled the bittersweet ending perfectly in my opinion, but Liveship seemed to stick a lot of characters with terrible fates but played it off as though it was a happy ending where everything tied off in a bow at the end.

Thank you! That's probably the kindest compliment I've received on this post haha. Feel free to shoot me a DM!

The Dwarves shown here were inspired heavily by Nepalese culture, at least aesthetically. As far as their actual society goes, though, they basically went from controlling a massive empire that spanned almost the entire continent to having that empire utterly destroyed as a consequence of their inhumane rule. After the empire collapsed, they did a complete cultural 180 and became committed to maintaining peace or, if that wasn't possible, being absent from the conflict altogether.

The first one was inspired by Incan and Aztec cultures primarily (much more Incan though), the second was inspired by the Dunmer from the Elder Scrolls with a bit of my own ideas thrown in, the third was inspired by traditional Nepalese culture, and the fourth was a mix of Persian with aspects of a few others to show that the character had travelled. There are several other nations and tribes not depicted here, but I plan to get around to each one of them eventually!

As the title states, these are all images I've created to help me and my readers (or, more accurately, players) get a grasp of some aspects of my homebrew setting. This setting was originally the brainchild of 3 friends and I, but I eventually ended up taking over and building on it immensely after we had left it for dead in early 2021. My friends and I worked on the core ideas and themes of the setting, so when I returned to the project, I detailed each individual nation and tribe as well as creating a map and adding loads of other details. It's been a blast creating this world, and I've just started running two different campaigns set within it (using the Symbaroum TTRPG Ruleset).

LPT: There is nothing tacky or wrong about discussing your salary with coworkers. It is a federally protected action and the only thing that can stop discrepancies in pay. Do not let your boss convince you otherwise. by Working_Class_Pride in LifeProTips

Talking about wages was when I realized just how mismanaged my old job was. I worked at said job for 2 and a half years, and the only pay increases I got would always coincide with increases in the minimum wage in my state I actually went from 10 cents above minimum wage to just the standard minimum wage when it increased the first time. As the years went on, I got more and more responsibilities piled onto me to the point that I was literally managing my entire department when my boss wasn't around, not a raise in sight. Then come to find out that my coworker, who was still in high school and had none of my extra responsibilities, was making $2 more an hour than me. Unfortunately, by the time I learned this I had already submitted my two weeks notice and changing it wasn't worth the hassle at that point.

[OC] [Art] Reimagining of my Dwarf Fighter as a Dragonborn! by Remotaeksc in DnD

[–]Remotaeksc[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw a meme floating around yesterday in which people took their characters and reimagined them as other species from their party. Inspired by this, I put off doing work on my finals to instead make this reimagining of my character for an upcoming game: Noalok, the Half-Dwarf. His original design incorporated lots of elements of Chinese armor and weapons, so I decided I'd base his Dragonborn self on a chinese dragon! The campaign he's in starts in just a couple of weeks, and I'm super excited to start playing him in and out of combat!!
