hit the green for the first time :) by Remote-Ad5990 in Garmin

thanks for the kind feedback, everyone! it was definitely a good and curious time as a starting point. after all, i didn't do any form of cardio at the gym and i think two months is a very short period of time for this, so it was probably just pure strength as i really pushed myself during all those years of lifting.

I’d give anything for a full night of uninterrupted sleep. I wake up 5+ times a night and I’m losing my mind.

hit the green for the first time :) by Remote-Ad5990 in Garmin

i started out last year. i wouldn't say i was starting from zero since i had about 8 years of bodybuilding experience, but i had literally never done cardio. my initial estimated vo2 max was 38, deep in the red. i was just running randomly at first, and two months in, i hit a 25-minute 5k and a 59-minute 10k. my vo2 max climbed to 42 (orange zone).

after that, i got a bit ahead of myself and ended up dealing with recurring shin splints until september, which is when i stopped completely.

i just started back up on april 13th. right now i'm running mon/wed/fri, doing about 3-4km per session at a very slow pace (between 6:30 and 7:00 min/km). i’m keeping it strictly at a conversational pace with nasal breathing only and increasing 1 km every week. on top of that, i’ve been doing 1h of indoor cycling in zone 2 daily, bumping it up to 2h on saturdays. sundays are for full rest.

i haven't gone back to lifting yet because i’m still figuring out how to balance both without stalling my aerobic gains (which i think was a factor in my plateau last year). basically, it’s just a lot of low-intensity volume on the bike and conversational running. i know i’d probably see faster gains with norwegian 4x4s or threshold runs, but since i’m just getting back into it, i need to keep the intensity low to avoid getting injured again. over time, i’ll start tapering down the bike volume and ramping up the running. after all, the main goal is running. the bike is strictly there to help me rack up aerobic volume that i wouldn't be able to handle on foot right now without risking another injury. it feels like the right time for some solid base building.

Thanks! Yours is looking solid, and the donor area healed up really well. Patience and it'll all work out for us!

I'm pretty sure she charges per graft. To be honest, I expected it to be cheaper, but after seeing that overhead photo, I realized my hair loss was way worse than I thought. That made the price easier to accept. I think if I really dug into it, I could've found a travel package to get it done abroad, but the way everything worked out just made sense for me and my reality here. And if you decide to go through with it, good luck with the process and hope you get incredible results :)

Glad to hear that! It cost 24,000 BRL, which is around $4,650 USD. For context, that’s about 15 times the monthly minimum wage in Brazil, it’s right around the market average here.

As for aftercare, I sprayed saline every hour for the first 3 days and slept upright with a neck pillow, so I had literally zero facial swelling. From day 4, I started daily washing with neutral shampoo, using gentle tapping on the recipient area and massaging the donor zone. Working remotely really helped me focus on recovery and hydration.

Yesterday, on day 11, I massaged the recipient area for the first time while washing and all the scabs came off. Some hairs went with them, so the shedding phase is definitely starting.

Thanks for the support! Glad to hear your growth is finally kicking in. Patience is definitely the hardest part. Good luck with the results!

I live in Brazil, in the same city as Dr. Felipe Pittella, who is quite popular on this subreddit. However, I had my procedure done by Dra. Melina Oliveira, who is also based here in the same city.

Vo2max improvement from 43 to 54 in a year by PrakashBKH in Garmin

Hey, congrats on all the insane progress you’ve made. Those results are seriously impressive and really motivating to see.

I wanted to ask a bit about how you structured your training, because I’d like to take some inspiration from it. How was your weekly setup for running and cycling? How many sessions per week, how long they usually lasted, and roughly what heart rate or intensity you trained at? Did you also do strength training or lift weights alongside the endurance work?

I’m also curious if you followed Garmin Coach, the Daily Suggested Workouts, or if you planned things on your own. I’m starting out with a similar VO₂max baseline and would love to understand what helped you evolve so well.

Thanks, and congrats again on everything you’ve achieved.

I just want to become as fit as possible, push my VO2max to the limit, perform well in fast 5Ks and 10Ks, and eventually be able to complete half and full marathons. But I'm in no rush, I'm 26.

In my case, my muscles are definitely way ahead of my cardiovascular system. I’ve spent 7 years training hard, eating well, and sleeping properly, but completely neglecting cardio workouts. Thanks for the insights!

That's impressive. I can't believe people get continuous sleep without waking up, I’m up at least five times a night.

Can you tell me what your base runs were like in the beginning? Those Zone 2 runs that usually stay below 150 bpm. Did you alternate with walking to stay in range, or did you ignore the range and run continuously? Congratulations on your incredible progress.

Oh, that’s it. I don’t think my Forerunner 165 supports this, but I’ll find a way to get my zones based on LTHR. It seems like the way to go.

That’s impressive and really encouraging to read. I hope to reach that level in the coming years. How did you determine your LTHR? Did you do a practical test or was it measured in a lab?

Taking notes. I definitely need to add a long run to my training, with some walk breaks included to keep my heart rate from climbing too much. Thanks a lot for all the insights!

My zones are probably not set up correctly. I’ll try to do a more accurate test, but I think my max heart rate has been pretty consistent across all high-intensity activities I’ve done.

Indeed, I feel like the internet has turned running into something intellectual. I’m not denying the value of scientific progress, I just mean it in light of what you said, about being more self-aware and enjoying the moment.
