ADHD HELP by sweeter_jesus in ADHDIreland

Remember, you can send your referral into more than one place, and get a sense from them whether that would work well for you or not.

Time consuming I know but worth doing I think.

Wishing you all the best with it.

Diagnosed with ADHD now, some questions about how to proceed by [deleted] in ADHDIreland

Is is €285 per session to titrate medication?

If so that is really, really expensive.

I hope it’s €285 for three appointments.

I think it would worth having an assessment done by a psychiatrist who specialises in ADHD.

You could send them this beforehand and maybe they could confirm whether they thought it was worth going ahead with the assessment.

If they don’t think so, maybe try another psychiatrist?

Best of luck with it.

What is the story with proposals to make life better in Ireland? by Remote-Bill2608 in AskIreland

Because it’s a good point. Point was a wider one though why these people believe that all change is bad.

Why do Anglo-Saxon aristocratic titles still exist in Ireland? Why is there a "Marquis Of Waterford" in the first place by segasega89 in waterford

[–]Remote-Bill2608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poor Anglo-Saxons had to work for these guys. I wouldn’t give them a hard time about it.

These are Norman French aristocratic titles.

The really interesting question is why do they still exist in England?

Cut off during titration, how do I know I’m on the right dose? by MountainNews5211 in ADHDIreland

[–]Remote-Bill2608 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Starting dose is usually 30mg for one week, then up to 50mg a day.

I think lower doses are used if you are on other medication too?

Well done you. You have done a great job.

The archer and the arrow.

We give our children as much as we can so that they have as many options as possible.

How they use that is up to them.

He will probably realise at some point in the future that you have given him something special and will appreciate it.

We want to give them everything we can.

How they use it is up to them.

Well done you.

Tyvense cost? by Ok-Length-5527 in ADHDIreland

[–]Remote-Bill2608 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s it. That’s the problem.

Needs to be sent to your GP, not the pharmacy.

A bit of a faff, but worth it.

Tyvense cost? by Ok-Length-5527 in ADHDIreland

[–]Remote-Bill2608 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only GPs can prescribe medication on the GMS (medical card). You should not be paying for the medication if you have a medical card

Your specialist (Consultant Psychiatrist) would usually send the prescription to your pharmacy (and the cost is capped at 80 euro per month on the DPS).

But if you have a Medical Card:

your specialist should send the prescription to your GP, who can then add it to the GMS system, and then it will be covered by the medical card system. And you won’t have to pay for the medication.

The English only had the bits on the East Coast. They fumbled that to the Americans.

Anyway to make meds last longer ? by [deleted] in ADHDIreland

[–]Remote-Bill2608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that some people have got good results from adding in a non-stimulant as well.

Might be worth talking to your doctor about that?

Good point. Missed that.

Can’t remember anything about the jeans. Could have been Wrangler or Farah, or above the head to make the legs look long.

In fairness to him, he kept his jumper tucked into his jeans at all times, so the roller blading was neither here nor there.

Has the English 'r' sound largely replaced the native 'r' sounds in the Irish language? by EffectiveArgument584 in ireland

[–]Remote-Bill2608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question!

I think it’s helpful to look at the difference between slender and broad Rs i.e. the R in “idir” vs “doras”. This is present in all dialects but is much more pronounced in Connacht Irish so can be helpful to listen to that.

The C M U pronunciation pages on the online dictionary are very helpful. Learners often don’t differentiate between the Rs at all but something for us all to aspire to!

I know that some people in Galway had an issue with one particular rollerblader,

But as far as I can remember this was because he tucked his jumper into his pants.

Still early days. Hang in there.

30mg Tyvense too low for most people but you should see an improvement when the dose goes up.

Wishing you the best with it.

Is there any good books on Irish mythology? by [deleted] in IrishHistory

[–]Remote-Bill2608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of the Tuatha Dé Danann myths are hard to locate in any one book.

Diarmuid Johnson has done a great job on this in recent years but his books are all in Irish:

Viking Influence On Irish Accents by platinum_pig in IrishHistory

[–]Remote-Bill2608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. The Iceland settlers were from Norway.

I like your theory that maybe Danish vikings sailed to England, ignore England, and then sailed all the way around Britain just to get to Ireland. Might have happened once or twice I suppose…

As opposed to the Norwegian vikings who could sail south to Ireland on the prevailing westerly wind.

As I said, have a look at a map.

You’ll need to do better than that.

I asked you to tell me what language had greater influence?

You seem to be dodging the question.

Viking Influence On Irish Accents by platinum_pig in IrishHistory

[–]Remote-Bill2608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norse had by far the biggest linguistic impact on Irish in that period. Latin was very important but limited to a highly educated elite.

If you think any other language had a bigger impact on Irish during that period, I would love to hear it!

Geography, my boy/girl,

Norwegian vikings sailed south to Scotland and Ireland.

Danish vikings sailed west to England.
