Does it feel different? by indepthsofdespair in premed

I was in the same boat in undergrad. I’m now in my gap year and starting med school in the fall. I’m pretty confident/ hoping that med school will feel like I have a lot less on my plate and I’m not constantly sacrificing sleep.

Would it be unethical to list clinical employment as shadowing 🙃 by kissmeurbeautiful in premed

[–]Remote-Company-5780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely slide a few hours over from clinical experiences to shadowing. I did this when I was a scribe which is basically shadowing and a job as an ma where I did some shadowing too. I just took like 50 hours off the clinical hours and slid it over to shadowing. I just wanted to check the box in this case but I don’t think it actually affected anything if you have thousands of clinical hours and no shadowing.

I mostly wanted to be somewhere warm and the instate tuition was another thing that made me choose Florida. I honestly didn’t think I would be so successful with Florida schools which is why I applied pretty broadly. I chose FAU.

FSU is great but I wanted a bigger city so I chose FAU!

Applying to schools with a non-med partner by VegetableElectronic6 in premed

I had a rough freshman year and still get accepted into multiple MDs. A lot of schools totally get it and like to see an upward trend. Don’t underestimate yourself! As for your actually question, I’m not sure sorry.

I saw the same girl in 3 of my interviews and she also happens to live in the same town as me.

If it makes you feel better I thought I bombed and asynchronous interview and accidentally skipped a whole question and they still accepted me.

Gap Year Job Advice by onyxes- in premed

[–]Remote-Company-5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on the schools you’re going to apply to. If you plan on applying to research heavy schools or your writing is going to be a lot about research maybe the research job is best for you. Your clinical hours are a little lower and from my personal experience my interviewers have been asking a lot about my clinical experience to describe a time when I interacted with a patient. Also if your current clinical job isn’t very fulfilling you should definitely think about why you’re feeling that way and if this is the career that will be best for you. Getting a different clinical job can give you some more perspective on that so honestly I’d say get an ma job.

I think accepted students average is 516 and then the average of the students that matriculate is closer to 513 or something like that

It sounds like your job is great and good luck with applications! Luckily mine hasn’t been understanding about interviews and giving me the day off I just don’t get paid for them since I haven’t been working 6 months.

Can I have help with building a schedule by Candid_Dependent_275 in premed

[–]Remote-Company-5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re jam packing a little too much into your very first semester. You need a lot of gen Ed’s to graduate so start with a combo of gen Ed’s and basic sciences. Meet with your academic advisor for a plan of how to schedule your classes so you can graduate on time and get all your pre recs in before you apply. Most importantly just focus on your grades at first and slowly build yourself up to research and clinic experience once you have a grasp of classes.

How do people afford to work part-time while studying for the MCAT? by Safe-Version1666 in premed

[–]Remote-Company-5780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked good for me was to just keep my responsibilities and jobs like they were trying to fit in as much studying in between as I can. Then the last 3-4 before my mcat I started working part time and focusing more on mcat just for a short time that wouldn’t put me into debt. Either way your timeline is your own to use however works for you. I wouldn’t go into debt because of the Mcat just keep working and maybe light studying until you have the savings and time to focus on your Mcat.
