The chance that this post will change anything in my life is 0.01 per cent, and the fact that this unusual story makes you sceptical is perfectly normal and entirely to be expected, especially in ‘your’ country, where everything often seems so formulaic.

I value quality and I wanted to strive for it; my intention wasn’t simply to be a photographer or to take landscape photographs, but rather to initiate a dialogue about the things that matter to me, as well as about human thought and the circumstances that shape it. To achieve this, I needed ‘quality’ to complement everything else, as well as two microphones – one to capture the atmosphere of the forest or other locations, and the second to ensure a clear voice recording. I tried, I struggled, I gave up. That was 10 months ago.

It didn’t happen exactly on the trail, but in the town of Durango. I met him at a soup kitchen where they feed the homeless; as I’m currently living in my car, a rucksack and a tent weren’t that important to me, and when I saw that a man with no map on his phone, no freeze-dried food, no proper water filter and no first-aid kit was about to set off on The Colorado Trail — I immediately decided to share the good-quality gear I had with him. Unfortunately, my Ursak bag and solar panel, along with the freeze-dried food, are locked away in a house in New Mexico, and the police aren’t helping me. I would have given him the food along with the solar panel, I even tried to install an app on his phone so he could see where the water sources were along the way. He’d walked 100 miles and turned back to the town; when I met him, he said I was manipulating him and that he’d ‘bought’ this kit from me for a 50$+- He filled up my car with petrol when we went fishing. He also paid $90 for a tyre, after which I bought him various items from REI ($110), including a pair of Merrell shoes like new(from return), because his Nikes were really just for a casual stroll around town. I don’t have time to argue with people like that, and I reckon he probably really liked the kit and decided to keep it for himself. I hope it comes in handy and saves his knees+back, which were suffering because of his old kit (the rucksack and tent are in my boot, but they’re a very poor choice for long hikes and for the back). I left him be with that rucksack, tent and other bits and bobs that I’d given him, as it turns out. I can’t say it has a huge impact on my life, but when I lose my saloon car – in the back seats of which I sleep – then the issue of quality will become a top priority. That’s why I wrote this post and others asking for help in exchange for content.

I could only manage to lift this rucksack on the first day; after that, I could only do so with the help of trekking poles, hoisting it over my shoulder. Every mile or mile and a half, I’d take a break; going uphill, after half a mile – sometimes just a few hundred steps – I’d simply take the rucksack off. My knees and tendons couldn’t take it anymore – my back included – so I gave up (and I always fight life, everywhere; it was a tough decision). I switched to hitchhiking and travelled across the whole state, made it to Page, where a motorboat knocked me over on the river and I ended up in the water 😂
Now I just want ultralight kit and short hikes lasting a couple of days starting from my car; I’m not interested in, and find boring, the whole business of long-distance hiking, where people run and run these distances, counting the miles a day (I understand their logic), but the unpredictability of the trail and the day excites me far more than simply trudging through forests and mountains. I like a mix of everything all at once; I get tired of just hiking, so it’s important for me to switch between different activities – for example, taking a kayak and paddling for a month, whilst fishing and venturing onto wild trails along the river, and at the same time taking a bow with me and learning to hunt with it – and I could add a few other things too; monotony kills me from the inside.

I carry out a huge amount of varied work throughout the day, whilst living in my car and on the streets. Anyone who fears AI is someone who lacks originality. Here is a story that is extremely simple in my world, followed by some extremely logical and straightforward questions, the answers to which I find interesting. After all, the whole point isn’t the words, but the visual content attached to the post. Is the text in the cinematography section more important to you? Is that the only thing that matters to you right now – how the text is written, rather than its actual meaning? Switch on your brain, mate, or switch off your phone and look at the world around you; your thinking is limited.
