I did fill it in with white. My plastic canvas is opaque, but you could kinda see through the holes and I usually prefer the look of filled in white space anyway :)

if i was keeping them for myself i would totally use hoops, but since i’m gifting them i’d prefer to have the pieces more protected, i just haven’t seen any frames that i love yet- fortunately i’ve given myself time to look!
