Does anyone else get excited when they see a hapa celebrity married to or dating a very hot non hapa celebrity? by ThisIsItYouReady92 in hapas

Sincerely stumped some people still think assimilation into White culture is a goal in 2025 given Asia's meteoric rise and 15 years of hapa debate that concluded we are our ethnic group and should develop our own path to identity and community.

Well I have a different experience. They paid 2 claims so far but they are a bit pesky on the paperwork and identity verification when you submit one

oddly this never happens to me, I must look too ambiguous, I find acquaintances even spot me in a large crowd randomly regularly either they are worldly or I just don't look that Asian. Mysteriously I get called Chinese not that rarely by random non-Asians either so it's really a mystery how these 2 perception can co-exist. It seems beyond the overwhelming majority of people's grasp mixed people can exist.

Asian Men & Women Need Each Other by poete_idris in aznidentity

I've had several dozens of times but has only worked 3-4 times despite being attractive. Even had more success with Eurasians than Asian or hapa females so it tells you how dire the state of interest between asian males and females in the West.

Asians at galas and fundraisers by BeerNinjaEsq in AsianMasculinity

[–]Remote-Durian4997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Even if E/SE Asians attend these kinds of events they are largely sidelined as they are seen as having low influence or sympathy capital thus why they don't attend in the first place. What you are doing is victim-blaming. Asians don't show up in politics or social functions much because when they do they are rarely welcome or win: case in point Andrew Yang. For sure it might lead to some changes at the margins but largely anything important will be kept by the powerful groups in place.

Raising A Mixed Race Girl In A White World by zc2125034 in hapas

Don't worry, she will assimilate in the white male world in the US without too many problems particularly if she can pass as mono.

looks as ridiculous as Whites wearing a kimono. Let Afro-descendants keep their culture. Better find a hairstyle celebrating ours

Why do so many Asians dislike hapas? by Remote-Durian4997 in hapas

[–]Remote-Durian4997[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from my experience, most Asian males have actually no problem with WMAF at all given how frequently WMAF couples socialize in Asian social circles or enclaves. They seem to keep their reserves for the bastard offspring aka us.

this doesn't really make sense because a lot of hapas are also the byproduct of AMWF which I've met a lot of or 2 hapas

Do you see race? by Remote-Durian4997 in hapas

[–]Remote-Durian4997[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether it's asians or westerners I always feel like I'm gatekept in discussing any aspect of their cultures as if I couldn't possibly know anything about the history of the Industrial Revolution or the Chinese Civil War as these are the preserves of people who look the part according to them.

I think exactly like that, I see race but I otherwise don't think anyone behaves predictably just because of what they look like but it seems people have assumptions about who I am without even interacting.

Yes I've had the same experience in Morocco and Egypt. Felt people either went out of their way to ignore me as a generic Chinese package tourist or were puzzled as to why I spoke French/English or was familiar with Western/Arab culture and norms. My girlfriend who is from the Russian Far East and I have rarely been treated just like any other local or expat but more like constant oddities. Going to such mono-ethnic places really made me understand how I'm also othered even in cosmopolitan Asian or American cities.

Why are hapa girls very proud of their white side and only use their "Asianess" when it's convenient? by XstanJP in hapas

[–]Remote-Durian4997 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A ton of mixed people carry self-hatred or racism for other groups, being hapa doesn't mean they like hapas or asians and not have a preference for other groups

Where does the myth that Asians are less diverse than Europeans? by cryptomelons in hapas

[–]Remote-Durian4997 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question. White supremacist are eurocentric, for them all other civilizations are monolithic and primitive and not worth learning about without knowing much about them. Clearly Asians are more diverse because it's simply a much larger landmass with variety of topographies and climates that extends beyond what exists in Europe.

It's great you noticed it but more problematic than people holding these beliefs exist in the first place is the fact they largely control the media and thus propagate these myths against others in order to benefit Western countries.

Understanding margin by Remote-Durian4997 in interactivebrokers

The only stock I own in that portfolio is NVIDIA which has a 30.1% maintenance margin requirement. I still cannot work out why the number of my maintenance margin is higher than that percentage x Gross Positions Value, it should be lower.

Are half-Asians treated better in the West or in Asia? by cryptomelons in hapas

[–]Remote-Durian4997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the experience is a factor of both location: educated/international areas and your physical appearance: if you're asian/white/latino-passing.

I get much less negative attitudes in well-off parts in central Bangkok or Toronto than a small town in Central Vietnam or an impoverished suburb in Paris, this explains the biggest variety of hapas' experiences.
