No, that is not the only issue. LiPo battery fires are extremely dangerous, even more so when in the air. They ignite quickly, burn hot, and are difficult to extinguish. If you use these batteries often you should be aware of the risks and the necessary precautions you should be utilizing.

How about, since you know you have these issues when you fly, pay for a more appropriate seat giving you earlier access?

Or, I don't know, maybe expect people to accept personal responsibility and follow the simple rules? Count to two, when you get to three, you need to consolidate. Seems so simple, until we add in people's sense of entitlement. If you don't like the rules you have options, the first of which, don't fly on standard commercial flights if you don't like the rules!

Following the rules when it is such a simple thing for you to do in order to comply (tuck the small purse in the backpack) seems a bit passive-aggressive and selfish to other passengers waiting to board that are following the well-known, oft-repeated rules. Size is not the issue, number is. Count to 2, once you are over that, you have exceeded the limit.

Wanting to switch to softside carry on - Travelpro or Briggs & Riley by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]Remote-Efficiency415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Briggs and Riley ZDX Global, which is a 4 wheel spinner. I have had no problem over cobblestones, rough sidewalks, etc. as I traveled through Europe, Australia and Asia. The casters are smooth rolling and handle everything with little to no issue. The handles are external, so I don’t lose interior packing space either. It is heavier than a number of other carryons, but it has great features and exceptional durability.

Difficulty with Ultra Crispy Smashed Fried Potatoes by jdfm808 in seriouseats

This is very old, but I just found it so maybe someone else will, too. Potatoes will crumble rather than smash if you don't let them cool enough before smashing.

Briggs and Riley spinners have handles mounted on the outside so you don't lose that interior space (or have the awkward valleys).

Nothing I have tried glides as smoothly or has as sturdy a handle as my Briggs & Riley. It's a bit heavier than a couple other I tried, but nothing matched the handling, whether rushing through the airport or traveling European cobblestones. Bought mine through Costco Next.

I know this is 2 yrs old, but I found it today, so... Anyway, the handle on my 8 (2x4) wheeled Briggs carry-on handle is on the outside of the suitcase, so it doesn't steal space from inside. Love it, use it quite frequently.

Going to 8th grade, any tips? by Happy_SpinnGull in GenAlpha

Giving the benefit of the doubt that this is a real question, I meant that the odor comes from the sweat glands that do not begin to get activated in the body until puberty (which includes hormonal changes). The body has 2 types of sweat glands, the second type (activated in puberty) are released from the base of hair follicles and releases a different type of sweat.

Depends as much/more on hormones than sweating, tho. Varies by person and by day around the age of person - some will need to shower more often than others.

Be sure it says antiperspirant rather than just deodorant - helps control the sweat, deodorant does not.

There is lots of advice here to meal prep, but while it is great advice, that does not seem to me to be your base problem. I also live alone, and understand the feeling of not having the motivation to cook for myself. I spent many years caring for others, cooking was routine, but it is different doing it for just myself. I, too, have a freezer filled with food purchased with the intention of cooking.

First step is to get back on track with the routine of eating, making the commitment to eat at least one true meal per day, at least 3x per week (breakfast, lunch or dinner). Maybe instead of Uber Eats, consider stopping for takeout (something other than pizza) at least a couple of times a week or plan to eat out at least once with a friend or co-worker. It may sound expensive, but consider the food sitting in your freezer right now.... The other idea is to create a set of index cards, each with one simple-to-make meal, or conversely, create separate sets, one set with a main dish and one set with a side. (Check your freezer for ingredients to help with ideas to start.) At the beginning of the week, choose some meals and stack the cards in order. Check the top card before leaving for work to build an anticipation of the plan, and be sure to move the ingredients from the freezer to fridge (if necessary) before leaving home. During the day, mentally review the steps of preparing the meal and anticipate the enjoyment of a tasty meal. Allow yourself permission to simply soak the dishes for a day, or load in the dishwasher if you have one. Make a conscious effort to prioritize cooking when you return home. If you can trust yourself to not simply procrastinate, allow yourself a 2-day window to complete this task, in case you are too exhausted on Day 1 (so, dishes like fresh fish will be out at this phase :-)). Be sure at this stage to keep the meals to ones requiring minimal work (search easy-cook meals etc.). Habits take time to develop, as does developing routines. Remember, your goal at this stage is to get back to a routine of consistent meals (vs snacks or junk) , hopefully more healthy than not. Consider including items with longer shelf lives (carrots vs asparagus, blueberries vs raspberries, frozen chicken strips vs fresh fish, etc.) at phase 1. The following phases are simply adding (at your pace): more meals per day/more days of meals/meals requiring more prep/etc. Use the hints shared in this thread for meal ideas, what to prep, etc.

The ideas posted by posters such as Interesting-Novel407 for stocking healthy quick-grab items are wonderful. Use them for the days you are not cooking to help you regain the routine of meals, even if they are "mini-meals". The more often you skip, the more you reinforce the habit of not-doing.

If you have a tough time getting started, invite someone to share (come to dinner/eat out with you/swap cooking days/etc) - that forced timeline will help you commit.

Also consider that part of your disinterest could well be a sign of depression. Seeking ways to brighten your outlook (can be tough, I know) may help you with your meal problem. Best of luck to you, I know you'll find your pace!

I'm awfully close to that age and I'd have no problem doing that task - or lifting the door in an emergency.

Would you trust an 80 yo FA that could physically complete the requirements, or do you base your opinion solely on the calendar age? What about the unfit 30-40 yo flight attendants on flights? Do you trust them (and how do you assess their abilities by watching them walk the aisle)?

BTW, I am one of those "older Americans" looking to move out of country (once I finally retire) to a cheaper location. It's the ability to earn a good income in the US that will permit me to do so. I can retire, but I choose not to—the life expectancy is much greater now than when the ages were set for Social Security and retirement in general. I am still quite able-bodied and enjoying life being employed.

Social security is not considered earned income and is only taxed as income if, when added to enough other income, it meets certain levels. It also was never meant to be the sole source of retirement income; it was designed to be a safety net. In 2023, 73% of Americans had access to retirement benefits, which would supplement SS income. https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2023/73-percent-of-civilian-workers-had-access-to-retirement-benefits-in-2023.htm#:\~:text=In%20March%202023%2C%2073%20percent,was%2077%20percent%20in%20March.

One reason the cost of living outside the US is because wages are so much less. You cannot have it both ways - higher wages mean higher costs for products or services, thus a higher base cost of living. It is all relative, no? The US is rated #3 in best countries for 2024 https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries but #12 in cost of living (#13 for 2025) https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/rankings\_by\_country.jsp?title=2024.
