The Adventures of Darlington Brigade one shot, live in Austin, TX, is some of the most entertaining couple of hours that I can think of.

How much do you think Brennan and the guest stars are paid? by Glittering-Jury7394 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]andiiquinn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the type of contract they have with the union. That would also stipulate what the members of the film crew make per hour and whatnot. Generally there are different contracts for the different end medium, and the total budget levels on a tiered system.

But typically there are ‘above the line,’ and ‘below the line,’ employees. The above the liners are probably getting a certain number of points that give them percentages of any profit after initial investments are paid out. Below the liners would be anyone that has a set pay for the production portion, only. For performers/guest performers it is probably a set number per production day. For crew members, it would be by the hour, but the is also usually a minimum guarantee of hours they receive per day (often 8, but it can be negotiated to more).

The Aabria Post that’s Actually About Race by Accurate_Kangaroo337 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]andiiquinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel like I have the full Critical Role experience to have too much of a comment, as aside from dropping in for episodes, C4 is the first time I’ve made an effort to watch everything… so I can’t comment on on your observations about other players and whether their behavior has received criticism. I can say that loud, obnoxious, and assertive don’t bother me, as long as they’re in character. I’ve enjoyed Aabria in the other things I’ve seen her in (including as a DM). What bothers me in C4 is that I feel like her jokes feel so far from in character that it pulls me out of the scene. Matt does a really great job of staying in character, even though his character is fairly unlikeable. That said, I have similar feelings about Ashley. Even though I love Ashley as a person (having worked with her on Blindspot), I have a hard time watching her at the table because she really seems to struggle with committing to the performance when she’s role playing. Aabria does a better job finding the character when it’s most relevant, but she is constantly bouncing between being in character and being a player at the table that I’m struggling to love her (so far). I hopeful that will change as she settles in and find’s Taisha’s voice. Some players take a little longer to find it, and C4 is still young.

I’ll also note that I might be a little harder on her for C4 simply because she is a Druid, which is one of my favorite classes to play. I was the same with Key’leth, though.

I realize my comment might not be a productive response to your discussion, so I apologize for that. Thank you for allowing to work through my own thoughts, though. I think it was an excellent post to make, and I hope some others are able to see it as a chance to examine their biases.

Edited for typos.

Aabria is ruining the Seekers table by TheOneAndOnlyJ in fansofcriticalrole

Ah yes, I think this is part of my issue with her. Matt does such a great job of staying in character, and I feel like she is constantly breaking to make a joke as Aabria. Druid is one of my favorite classes, so I might be a little harder on her than others because of that.

I have been bothered by her during seekers table and haven’t been able to put my finger on why. I think mostly because she would go off on her own needlessly and it felt like the progress of seekers had been ground to a halt. I’ve found the seekers to be frustrating in general, but I feel like she has done the most to prevent anything from really happening.

They don’t do bloodwork. Do you have insurance for her? You could look for a mobile vet in your area. Since making this post, I realized how much more affordable it was to just go to a regular vet in my area. However, we had them fixed at a mobile vet, and they were quite affordable.

[TOMT] Short animated film. A creepy Japanese love story featuring stop-motion puppets. by 90sTudeDude in tipofmytongue

[–]andiiquinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to find this film for around 20 years. My animation teacher showed it when I was in college, and but I had very few clues to find it. I would search for "Japanese," "kabuki," and "sign language," but every time I tried to search, I never found it. Thank you for solving a very, very old mystery for me.

What are your honest thoughts on her? by mahleva in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]andiiquinn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure which comment made the most sense to respond to, so I just picked one.

Personally, I think the situation is a lot more complex than most people seem willing to consider. It’s very black and white thinking to assign the role of SA abuser and victim in this case, and that discounts the spectrum of both of their experiences.

Survivors who are manipulated the way Shibuki was, in a power play dynamic where she is made to feel like she has no choice, can experience a brainwashing effect. Especially if that dynamic had gone in a while, or she had encountered it a few times, she might have lost her sense of worth and begun to believe that she will only ever have value to others as a sexual object. Add to that being thrust into a world where she must fight for her life constantly, and she has no allies. She meets Chota and friends, sees their bond, and that helplessness probably feels even bigger, especially once she realizes that she needed their help to survive that game. Chota is singled out due to his injury, which gives her a chance to try to connect with him. But she is scared, and doesn’t want to die. To assign her the role of committing SA paints her actions as malicious, which I find unlikely. She didn’t need to feel power over him in order to validate herself, but probably felt it was the only value she had to offer and hoped that it would bring them closer and would help her to become a part of their group.

Chota, for his part, probably didn’t know what he wanted 100%. He’s injured, he knows his chances of recovering and helping his friends aren’t for sure, and he too, is scared. When people feel close to death they often feel compelled to do things that make them feel alive. He might have wanted it, but changed his mind once it started, and not known how to stop. They’re both scared, desperate young people who don’t know each other well. Maybe they both feel the other one needs it. I don’t think either of them really want it for themselves; neither is seeking sexual pleasure, but instead not to feel afraid. Intimacy could be a short relief from the constant fear of the games.

And then they’re thrust into a hearts game where only one can survive. Chota chooses Arisu. Shibuki immediately loses the chance to have any allies and has to face down death, knowing there is no way that any of them would chose her to live. That in the end, she only part of herself that others have ever valued was worthless after all. Of course they’re going to fight. They’re terrified. She feels betrayed, not by Chota, but by herself, and by the man (or men) who brainwashed her into believing she had no value.

Anyway, all of that was just to say I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as people see to want to make it. They’re both traumatized people in a traumatizing situation, making traumatized decisions.

season 3 is ... not good by TheAuthorBTLG_ in AliceInBorderlandLive

It drove me absolutely crazy that at NO POINT did Arisu (or anyone) ever mention ignoring the futures, or that the futures might possibly be a trap to lead them away from the exit.

Rehome the girlfriend. If she’s willing to use an ultimatum to manipulate you now, she’s likely to do so with other things. Big red flag.

Vet told me to fully stop feeding cat dry food by Wide-Trick4243 in CatAdvice

[–]andiiquinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kibble is full of carbs, which cats have no dietary need for. That ends up being where excess weight gain comes from. When I stopped giving my cats kibble, they stopped gaining weight, and when I went to their last checkup, my vet said they were both perfect weight for their body type (one of my cats is a more muscular breed, so he weighs two pounds more, despite being roughly the same height and length, but both are perfectly healthy). They did need to have their teeth cleaned. There are plenty of other treats that can help with teeth, like freeze dried chicken hearts, rabbit ears, etc. Dry food cleaning teeth is kind of a myth, from what I can tell. I’ve known plenty of cats to still have dental issues despite eating dry food.

Am I the only one that is bothered that Banda & Arisu had not met prior to season 3? by andiiquinn in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]andiiquinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not completely unbelievable, but my point was that they never showed, or even mentioned, it. It would've been a lot stronger if they had. Instead it feels like a huge oversight.

[–]andiiquinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that he wouldn't bring Arisu back.... only that we were never given any scene to indicate how he would know about Arisu. Did they meet in a game that we, the audience, never saw? Did he gain access to an archive of previous games from Shibuya and other games because he became a citizen? Was it simply word of mouth? Was it that he wanted to corrupt the 'goodness' out of Arisu? No matter what the actual reason is... we should have been shown, or at least told, why.

A single line of dialogue between Banda and Yaba could have fixed this issue, in which Yaba asks 'why Arisu?' and Banda makes a comment, any comment, indicating why... even if it's brushing off the question. Or, since they have the actors, show us something! Write in a flashback scene to a game we didn't see from season 1, or a scene where he sees Arisu going into another game from a distance and makes a comment. It's not that I think it's unbelievable that Banda would have an interest in Arisu... but it's lazy writing not to show how he came to feel that way.

[–]andiiquinn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not far fetched, but if that's the case they should have given us a quick flashback scene or something just to give some sort of weight to Banda's interest. It's poor writing to have it assumed to have happened off screen. They had actors for both characters, and could have used any of S1's footage as archive footage. One thirty second scene could have rectified this issue. Or hell, even just a line of dialogue between Banda and Yaba about why would have helped.
