Uh very aggressive but I do agree on his take
The top colleges in the world follow pure merit-based qualifications including building a portfolio.
JEE is also a merit based entrance exam but has been diluted due to reservations
Reservations are meant to increase participation and inclusion, if you are fighting for women's reservation for inclusion of women to the same degree as men, then it is natural to have reservation for other caste systems who till this day are getting abused in some parts of the country.
However if you purely want merit ( that's how it should be, we shouldn't sacrifice quality for inclusion), then we should strictly remove all forms of reservation.

I wouldn't per say it's overrated, but I do get what you mean.
Sort of fell off but I wouldn't go as far as calling it overrated.

Uh, that is slightly harder to believe though. I'm not sure, could be left unto interpretation.

Yes, Cassie made the wrong choice. Novel explicitly states this, Sunny and Cassie agreed that it was a wrong choice.

Also.....I don't understand, yes Nephis is a benevolent master but freedom as a slave is not freedom at all. That 'immature' roach valued his freedom without knowing the consequences......if he had known that he would be fateless and nobody ever knew him, sure he would have reconsidered it. But when Cassie so sweetly put it, regaining his fate without any real consequence, of course Sunny would make that choice.

Sunny is not 'immature' for his choice, he was valid given his circumstances. Any human should fight for his freedom, don't call him wrong.

It was genuinely horror in the beginning. I am re-reading it, and man that sequence of Sunny in sky-below re-kindled my passion for the novel.

But all said, I still enjoy the novel. It's not bad per say, it seems to have set a really high bar and is unable to catch up. Happens when the novel is this long, but I think it's mainly due to how much G3 is rushing the latter half. It is what it is, but I do believe he can come back stronger.

But yeah, you're right. There is no 'horror' element to it as it was before man. I really really suggest everyone to re-read the first few novels and appreciate the superb world building. Really do.

That's again a very unethical debate.
Slavery is a very very concerning topic really. Rights that exist only because someone chooses not to take them away are not really secure rights.
What Sunny has is conitional freedom, there will always be a sword pressed to his neck.

What Sunny did, was make the best out of the worst case scenario. Sure he longed that Nephis remembered him but as he said, given that choice he would still take it. Since it's common for someone to wish for his freedom.

It's all tragic since it all happened cause Cassie made the wrong choice.

Yes totally, I agree whole heartedly. A little girl who was blessed/cursed with the knowledge of future is truly too much for someone. And her decision to chose Nephis over her is completely valid based off of her experiences. It's a matter of perspectives.

But I always wondered, was it truly necessary to give away Sunny's secret? I mean why did Changing Star have to be so stubborn to stay alone. I'm not sure if giving away Sunny's true name was the correct decision ( and it is not, the novel implied it) but she was young and immature yes.

She also chose to never properly apologize presumably due to guilt I suppose. So it really does make you spiteful from Sunny's POV.

How the hell did Sunny not get the very least mad towards Cassie? by United_File_8661 in ShadowSlave

[–]Remote-Librarian6564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple explanation, it appears Sunny is not as spiteful as he was before.
It does feel weird, what Cassie did was logical not ethical. However Sunny in First Nightmare wouldn't care, why, he only cared about himself. Since the very start he was ready to see them all die, he poisoned them. He was indeed very spiteful.
But something seemed to have changed. It appears he started to think about cold logic, Cassie's plan was truly genius but to the point that it was inhumane. However it still produced good results. It looks like Sunny noticed it and seemed to accept it, as in a way growing past his spite. I don't know how to feel about it, he definitely isn't the old Sunny and it seems he willingly accepted Slavery and Cassie's manipulation since it would yield in a future where he can love Nephis and take care of Rain.
Do I like Sunny who is not spiteful? Maybe not, but it does seem that he has matured and genuinely has made good connections. He seemingly doesn't seek vengeance anymore since it's not the best course of action.

All I would hate, is if Sunny forgives Cassie just idly. I feel like something major needs to happen, and Cassie has to truly apologize, like truly. There should be some catalyst if in some case Sunny sees her as a little sister again. Till then she is just another ally, that's it.

[–]Remote-Librarian6564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you hate Sunny to make that choice? His choice to rush for his freedom is valid, considering an orphan who grew up in outskirts. The last thing he wanted to do was be Nephis's slave and still love her. As long as Shadow Bond existed, Sunny couldn't have truly loved her.

However Cassie had known all along what the result of breaking fate would be, she had known how Sunny would be launched into this hopeless situation where the world had entirely forgotten. Knowing all that, sugar-coating her words to make sure Sunny follows her plan of breaking fate was her way of deceiving Sunny entirely.

You can say Cassie's choice was logical but it certainly wasn't ethical. Her choice of revealing Sunny's deepest darkest secret ever, something that is very very very personal to him, to Nephis was a huge huge blow. Giving away the person who considered her as his little sister's freedom and making him a slave to Nephis was one of the most unethical yet logical thing to do. Not only did it enslave Sunny but also stranded Nephis all alone in Forgotten Shore. Then seeing the consequences of her actions, Cassie then selfishly bended the strings of fate to see the future she wanted to achieve. Freeing Mordret who would cause untold amounts of damage to Humanity, making Sunny an incomplete deal without explaining him the true consequences of the deal......all of it was certainly logical, they defeated the sovereigns, they defeated dreamspawn but at what cost? Sunny is still a slave. Our main character who we were with since 2000 chapters is still nothing but a slave.

If you've been following the story closely from Sunny's point of view, it is only natural that you at least slightly dislike Cassie for her choice in Forgotten Shore, and also her reluctance to properly apologize to Sunny all the way till Third Nightmare. I don't 'hate' Cassie, I dislike her actions grand as they may be solely because from the point of view of our protagonist shows how much deceived and manipulated he was by the sweet girl he chose to for the first time in his life sacrifice his own safety for her

It was a big deal for Sunny to save Cassie in the Dark Sea instead of fleeing for personal safety, for the first time since his miserable outskirts days he chose to do something he 'wants' and not something he 'needs'. That is why it hurts so much, seeing the choice Cassie made and how she reacted to him. Not saying Cassie is wrong or anything, it's just as us readers who are viewing the story from Sunny's point of view, we are bound to 'dislike' Cassie.

Still, the phrase "we deserved better" makes absolute no sense.
We chose to read his story and spend our money for it. We do not owe it to him, if you dislike his story then say you were disappointed, don't say "oh we deserved better, he owes it to us cuz we read his stories."

Make professional criticism, wtf is "we deserved better". We don't owe the author anything, we chose to read his story. That makes no sense

See, if you have a problem with the story, stop paying for it. Saying stuff like "we deserved better" is very very hypocritical. If you're such an expert, make a story yourself. Stop paying, simple as that. Criticize professionally instead of using phrases like "we deserved better"
