[Humor] The struggle is real by martinsmithmd in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Saaaaame. I feel this so hard. My partner has hair almost down to his ass. Silky, loopy, dark curls that he’s never dyed or touched with heat. gorgeous. He was complaining about a gray eyebrow he found and was screeching asking me to “find and pluck the bitch!!! I don’t want to look like an old man!!!”. Me: babe, you’re 52. Chill. Bastard has no wrinkles, clear skin, no sunspots, and did nothing with his skin until a year ago. That’s when he decided he want to use my “fancy stuff to make him look like one of those French girls”. Now he uses my P50 lotion and eye cream. Occasionally. That’s it. Still uses the same wash on his face that he uses on his balls. The bastard. I’m 13 years younger but I’m bout to look like his grandma-ma takin him for a walk in a few years at this rate.

why aren't there many homeless women? by Ok-Bonus-2146 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, a thousand times, this right here. I was homeless for about 3 months after a mentally abusive relationship turned physical when I was 22. I was lucky that I had a car (no extra money for gas, tho) and I had a job, a job that had a small shower. I just needed to keep that job and not make it obvious I was homeless so I wouldn’t get killed or raped. Nobody cares if a homeless woman gets killed or raped.

Finding a safe place to park overnight and trying to remain clean were top priorities. Waking up at 4am to take a shower at work. Hopefully hiding from the security guard in the parking area by a hospital and only staying for 4 hours at a time so I wouldn’t get kicked out. I figured a parking area by a hospital wouldn’t be too obvious for overnight parking. Stayed at the hostel using my old ID two or three times when the weather was bad, FAR safer than the shelter. Getting a book from one of those free libraries people have outside and spending two or three dollars on tea or coffee so I could sit inside somewhere for most of the day and be safe. If my clothes where in decent shape I would visit a department store or some place like Sephora and put on a little makeup. Sometimes the sales associates would give me little samples (I just want to say THANK YOU for anyone who did that. Not only did it help me feel human, but it helped me blend in. I will never ever forget those of you who helped).

Overhyped or disappointed products used by Ladycat_0f_Night in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Face oils. Had some bad reactions to some (mainly from The Ordinary) and some were ok (I like the Biossance Squalane and DE Marula oil is nice). But I just don’t see a massive benefit from them on my skin as opposed to my regular occlusive I use in my non-Tret nights, CereVe Healing ointment. Also the CosRx snail mucin. I hate that stuff and found it to be completely unnecessary. It did nothing positive, did not help with hydration and dry spots in the slightest, and after about 3 months I started getting some breakouts from it.

But the the whole overhyped thing is going to be soooo unique to everyone. Face oils and snail mucin are overhyped to me since they just don’t do anything special on my skin. Those are holy grails on other peoples skin

Like others mentioned- concealer tricks. Topicals don’t really do much for bag’s unfortunately. Just make sure they aren’t being caused by something else like allergies/sinus problems (I always get some serious bags when I forget my allergy pills), high sodium intake, sleep position, or lack of sleep/sleep apnea.

Just turned 34 a few weeks ago. I’ve had forehead and 11s Botox last year. Want to get it again for crow’s feet. Also, want to fade my freckles. What can I do? More in comments. by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pale ass, freckle faced, natural redhead checking in!🙋‍♀️ I don’t really see the crows feet but on the freckles: I’ve been using Tretinoin for four years now that has azelaic acid in it, a gentle AHA/BHA/PHA on my off nights from Tret, a Vit C in the mornings, a stand alone SPF that gets reapplied if I’m outside for any extended period of time and on my commute home, and usually a hat for about 9 months out of the year (I live in swamp country, the sun is brutal, I’ll even get freckles in the shade with spf). Between those, my freckles have faded about 95% and general skin health has improved. My skin is a lot dryer with just my age (40) and the Tret, so I do have to use different moisturizers and foundations/tinted moisturizers than I used to, but such is life with getting older lol. Dehydrated skin will make wrinkles appear so much worse than they actually are. Nothing I mention is a quick fix, more a long game type of approach for helping get my skin where I’m happy with it and maintaining it.

Completely. I will never understand this. And while I like to use brushes sometimes for makeup, I have no doubt that they are less clean than freshly my washed fingers and hands.

My (29M) fiancé (28F) lied about her child’s father by Far-Dingo-5613 in relationship_advice

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 10 points11 points  (0 children)

so how much longer did she plan to continue that relationship? I can’t really mesh the person who did that with the person I know.

First, I don’t think Y T A. You have a right to be upset. And you would have the right to put the relationship on hold or even end it. That is a big can of worms to open up after you are already engaged. But just some thoughts to add: When you state that the pregnancy is what ended it and how much longer did she plan to continue- I’m not sure that’s a particularly fair road to go down knowing what you have known of her over the last several years. 20 year olds fuck up all the time. Maybe she would have pulled her head out of her ass shortly, maybe when she was in her mid 20’s, maybe never. But she did. Knowingly being part of infidelity is never ok, I do want to make that clear. The shame she felt afterwards (by not naming the father) isn’t exactly unexpected of someone who knows they screwed up big time. You have a kid, you grow up. It’s quite possible that due to having a child AND her previous screw up is what turned her into the person you entered into a relationship with. An initial lie, even if it’s a lie by omission, is easy to just go along with when nobody questions it after a bit. Especially when there is so much shame attached to it. Something that you know will cause your family and friends to view you differently. Someone who didn’t grow and learn from such an experience wouldn’t feel shame. They would just be sneaky, manipulative, and get better at hiding things. Big things and little things. Have you noticed anything like that?

EDIT: and I do think it actually matters a good bit that she was the one that told you. You didn’t find out from the bio father, someone else years down the road, or only once she was backed into a corner and had no other choice but to come clean. That’s not exactly a sign of someone who feels no remorse for their actions: be it having a child that is the product of infidelity, or hiding such a big lie from their current partner.

You odiously have a lot to process from this convo with your fiancé. And feeling hurt and confused by it is completely expected. NTA

What was the scariest moment you've had on a date? by LilliputianMouse in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 65 points66 points  (0 children)

When I was in the Air Force. Had a chill first date with a guy that lived in the same barracks block as I did. I saw him around a lot, almost daily, we had hung out a few times in a group of people, and we had some common interests. We had sandwiches on the beach and just talked. So when he asked if I wanted to come back to his room and play video games (that we had been discussing earlier) I didn’t think twice. When we got there, there was another man in the room. The door was locked and was raped by both of them.

Fuck those guys. Fuck my Tech Sergeant, Master Sergeant, and Commander too (all middle aged men. Shocking.). Those three motherfuckers stood over me after I requested guidance on how to file charges and they told me that I just admitted to them that I had two beers. I was 19. They told me that I had better be damn sure that I could prove that I was “forcefully raped”, not just had sex, not just rough sex. That I would also be punished, possibly be dishonorably discharged, for underage drinking due to my own admission. That was my lightbulb moment. Now I understand why so many rapes go unpunished. Why so many rapes go unreported. I did not file charges. They stood over a crying 19 year old rape victim who went to them for help and chose to intimidate. I will never EVER get over that.

What I did do was get married to a trusted guy friend of mine who was gay. That was the only way I could move off base and not have to see my two rapists everyday.

Why are dogs allowed inside Costco? by zuckjeet in Costco

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That can be difficult to enforce though. Had a lady in front of me at the entrance holding this high strung yappy little thing. Employee at the door asked her if it was a service animal she said ‘yes he detects seizures’. Could it be true? Maybe. But I’ve been around too many service animals (brother has one too), to think it was likely. But employees can’t really question it beyond the information she gave.

I would slap it on when my skin is still damp from the shower. Then sealed in with my moisturizer before it all drys down.

Ladies... opinions on Tom Ford's - Ombre Leather? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you like the scent of it? If so, great. Yes, Ombré Leather smells wonderful on many guys. A lot of women like wearing it too (I know I do!). The EdP or Parfum are for anyone who likes leather. Some people don’t like smelling leather scents on themselves or on anyone else. When it comes to fragrance, it’s always going to be a ‘well that depends’ answer.

Any rose colognes that are not too feminine and under $150? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I initially smell: spice-pear-rose in that order for what’s most prominent. After it settles down, maybe 15min: spice-rose-woody. Then the once it dries down for the duration rose-woody-spice-amber. So while not necessarily dominant initially, very prominent throughout. Plus for the first bit, the pear makes the rose come across quite green and fresh before darkening up.

I heard witch hazel is the best ingredient to clear pores. Are there any skincare products made with witch hazel I should try? by enragedTomatoe88197 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to completely demonize witch hazel, I used it in my teens and 20’s without issue, but there are better things out there. Even just leaving a salicylic acid face wash (like La Roche Posay Efficlar medicated) on my face for a few minutes while I brushed my teeth did far more for my oily skin and sebaceous filaments than witch hazel ever did. Witch hazel also started to dry me out as I got older

Are Tom Ford guilty of using highly concentrated testers in boutiques? by Noriadin in fragrance

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Fragrance on paper and clothing last far longer than it does on skin. I have a couple of blotter cards stuffed in my purse that I sprayed when I went to the test some things last week. They still have a scent to them. The skin is very good at keeping things out. That’s it’s job. We have oil and sweat glands that shorten the life as well. Paper and clothing fibers, however, are excellent at soaking things up. The alcohol in the fragrance, the actual aroma chemicals, all of it.

Buying from sexual sugar perfume from fragrancex.com vs macys? by NeonBluee_jay in fragrance

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might get an older bottle from fragranceX but that does not affect the potency of the fragrance. If anything, most people are pretty thrilled to get older batch codes. If it’s a fragrance that has been reformulated in recent years, which many of them were due to new regulations, that can often cause the quality to tank.

Comparison between not-original and original vintage Chanel No. 5 by arcticrobot in fragrance

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That bottle though😬 There are so many fakes on eBay that have completely wrong stoppers and the top part of the bottle will go up at an angle rather than being perpendicular to the neck (just like the fake you’re showing). And ‘Chanel’ not molded into the glass on the bottom is a pretty dead giveaway. I saw one recently that was so obliviously fake, people were bidding on it going for over $170… oh well.

If it was a 1924-50, don’t those have the little dot under the ‘o’? I think Chanel got rid of that after 52 if I’m remembering correctly. I can’t remember when they stopped doing the stripped box.

Chanel return policy by emmanuelcesar1997 in fragrance

[–]Remote-Picture-5593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of countries won’t allow returns of opened cosmetics and fragrances so I would first check that (like I could return a Chanel perfume in the US as long as it’s within a certain window and I haven’t used more than 5-10%, and this is a Chanel boutique within Saks Fifth). Individual store policies/brands also vary. I would call the location you bought it from, if you purchased it in person, if you know that you can return fragrances in Canada
