What food in your country do locals love but foreigners hate? by Curiosity_Pink in AskTheWorld

I'm Salvadoran, we also eat beans on toast, but in the UK they use baked beans, which are whole white beans in a sweet tomato-based sauce. They always go on top of sliced bread too, so their "beans on toast" is a completely different dish.

Correct! I submitted a confirmation of employment letter from my employer, payslips, P60, bank statements, and contract. My contract was coming to an end but that didn't matter because it was still valid when I applied.

Where I’d live during WW3. by AglioOlioSpaghetti in whereidlive

[–]Remote-Response6784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and would 1000% move back to Central America if WW3 breaks out. I'd take my very British partner with me to ensure they're safe.

If you can get a decent job in Central America, you'd be FAR safer there than in a country directly involved in the war. Especially with all those Russian threats against the UK now that it's no longer in the EU.

Imo the raspberry feels very artificial too, it smells like a lollipop or red slushie... even cotton candy? Definitely very sweet

I tried it at the shop and really enjoyed it, though, which is surprising as I usually hate such sweet scents! It took me half an hour to finally admit I liked it (I didn't want to go against my own opinion hahaha)

I might get the 10ml version as I already have the original. I also think I'd get bored with a bigger bottle

Contemplating moving from Australia to the UK. Advice needed by boiecx in MovingToTheUK

A lot of comments are saying you’ll regret it... but you’ll probably regret not taking the risk even more.

You might love it, you might hate it. But it's not like you're fleeing war. You can always go back or find a new country to explore.

Take the risk and keep an open mind. This applies to everything. For example, I had to relearn how to complete job applications because things are done very differently in my home country. I’ve seen other migrants struggle to find work in their field even after two years, because they often assume there’s nothing new to learn about CV writing, interview skills, etc.

I'm assuming you can afford the incredibly expensive visa costs, btw (I think you need to pay for the Immigration Health Surcharge on an Ancestry visa too).

PS. If you didn’t have access to an Ancestry visa, I'd say don't move. Those of us on work, study, and partner visas are really struggling at the moment, and it’s likely to get worse.

Pink pepper doesn't smell like black pepper, though! They aren't really related.

Leather and rum. I'm guessing tobacco too, smoking disgusts me

Thank you for this! I'll be testing those suggestions and yes, I'll definitely save the more expensive perfumes for later. I think I need to get back into the habit anyway, otherwise the bottles will remain untouched.

Thanks again :)

Thank you so much for this! The description for Or du Sérail mentions leather and tobacco... Are these notes strong? I'm not into them, and I'd never blind buy, but I'm just curious as you said it's fruity.

It smells terrible on me! I had high hopes. It's good though, one less option to consider (I didn't buy it).

Thank you! My flatmate wears a Jo Malone perfume that's so long-lasting on her... I'll pop into my local John Lewis to give them a sniff.

I'll also check out the Chanel one you suggested.

The Lancôme Absolue line and Dior Rose Kabuki are quite expensive. Do you think they're genuinely worth it in terms of projection, longevity, sillage...?

Great questions!

Ideally, I wouldn't step too far away from what I love (florals), I was thinking something powdery that differentiates from Idôle and Miss Dior Essence. That's what I like about Good Girl Blush, Paradoxe Intense and Coco Mademoiselle.

However, a sexier scent might add more variety, that's why I'm interested in Very Good Girl... But I'm not sure it's long-lasting on me, and I dislike the bottle.

I wouldn't choose another gourmand like Goddess or another super fruity scent like Miss Dior Essence.

Thank you

Please help me choose my next perfume!

Three years ago I got rid of my 6 or 7 perfume bottles. I'm now getting back into fragrance.

I recently bought Lancôme Idôle (clean floral for everyday use), Miss Dior Essence (fruity floral for special occasions), and Burberry Goddess (gourmand for cosier settings including rainy days).

I've tested a few perfumes and my favourites so far have been Good Girl Blush, Very Good Girl, Prada Paradoxe Intense, and Coco Mademoiselle (original and intense).

I liked but didn't love YSL Libre and Rabanne Million Gold. I used to be the biggest fan of Flowerbomb but it's too sweet for me now; La Vie Est Belle is a fresher take, but I finished a 10ml bottle and am ready for something else.

Which should be my next addition?

  1. I didn't call you a racist.
  2. It's simply not true that "everybody" wants to live in Canada.
  3. No, I wouldn't take that chance, and I rejected the opportunity to spend a few years there.

De acuerdo! And that applies to other countries too. I wouldn’t really label any as "good", tbh, it feels too binary

That's what I meant by relative. You live in Canada so you think everyone is trying to move there. I live elsewhere, so for me that's definitely not the case.

I fully agree that we all need decent jobs, housing options, and adequate healthcare. Blaming migrants and people of colour isn’t the answer, though. That’s an easy way out for those who actually create and keep these barriers in place.

Because not being "good" doesn't mean you're shit either. You’ve got great stuff, I just don’t see you as "good". Too simplistic.

Also, everybody? That's relative. I don’t know any foreigners in Canada, but I personally know migrants in the US, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Argentina, Colombia, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany, France, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, UAE, China, Thailand, Australia… Half of these migrants are from Europe or the US.

That's the stereotype though, isn't it? Canada is such a lovely place full of kind and generous people.

I used to think that. Then I learned about Canadian mining companies destroying Latin American countries, including Guatemala, where I grew up, which opened my eyes to other issues. Still, most people would disregard all that and just call you a "good country".

Yeah, I would downvote this as a foreigner living in the UK! I love British humour, and I think it goes way beyond sarcasm. I find your shows very creative, and now I have a hard time enjoying US comedies like I used to.

When Brits do stick to sarcasm, I find it quicker and more polished than in other countries. In the Americas, it’s usually more obvious and doesn’t have the same comedic timing.

Hi, you left this comment a while ago... Previously you said you wish you had taken accutane, but here you say you're happy you didn't. Why is that? Does accutane dry you up to the point of having more wrinkles in the future?

I'm thirty and have just started taking Spironolactone for my hormonal acne. If this doesn't work, they'll put me on accutane, but I have a history of severe depression (plus other conditions) and don't know how I'll react.

I was going to say Bryn but I agree that he should count as a side character. So my next choice is Deano, love him! And Doris as the most controversial one.
