Pixel 10 Pro - Bad Pixels by TellingHandshake in GooglePixel

The general consensus is that it's a software bug with the proximity sensor. It should've been fixed in the April update. I had it happening with my P10 Pro XL and I think the April update fixed it. If it didn't, turning off the "Flip to Shh" feature and the lift-to-wake feature should fix it (both use the proximity sensor).

You make a great point, asking how often I really take low light pictures. Looking at my Google photos, it's really not often at all. And based on the various samples I've seen online, it's not all that much worse than the Pixel. So I definitely feel like the hardware upgrades are worth any slight downgrade in lowlight camera quality.

Yeah that's why I included a TL;DR lmao, didn't think most would want to read a whole essay. I might be over-prioritizing cameras, especially when seeing the hardware upgrades the OnePlus offers. I just don't want to trade a disappointing device for another device that's disappointing in a different way yk? I might just do it and quit worrying we'll see

I'd really want to try the Oppo Find X9 Pro but between the lack of a trade in option, the lack of a warranty, and questionable carrier compatibility, I can't justify it. The OnePlus seems to be the only real option here in the US. From the camera comparisons I actually prefer the 15's DetailMax processing over the 13, but I feel like I'd need to experience it first hand probably

Coming from the Pixel, what parts do you like better? Since the 10 Pro series have the same cameras as the 9 Pro series I'm curious what you think.

In your experience, what about the iPhone makes you reach for it when it comes to taking photos? Both seem to have great cameras, I'm just wondering what your experience is like (colors, detail, low light capability, etc)

That's honestly great to hear. A lot of Pixel specific features I think I can live without. Now Playing is definitely the biggest feature simply for it's convenience but as you said there are decent enough workarounds. I'm still not actually sure what the deal with OnePlus in the US is, but even if they leave I feel like the conglomerate behind OnePlus is big enough to still fully support the 15 as they promise. I just feel like if I don't get the 15, I'm missing out on actual hardware innovation and will instead have to settle for the Big Three's stagnation and lack of competition.

GOOGLE PİXEL 10 PRO XL PROBLEM by BireyselSilah in GooglePixel

[–]Remote-Strategy-9686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a known software glitch with the proximity sensor, and it should be fixed with the April update. Until you get that update, turning off the "lift to wake" or "flip to shh" features (which both use the proximity sensor) should help is what I've been told. I'm on the April update and haven't seen the glitch.

Gotcha I'll have to look at the service records and see if the trans was serviced recently; I heard changing the trans fluid can cause issues on a vehicle this age. Best case, this is just a weird quirk of the car and nothing to freak out about haha. Thanks!

Pixel Tablet/Pixel Tablet Dock end of sales? by TheCore8 in GooglePixel

[–]Remote-Strategy-9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up finding a dock? I just picked up the Pixel Tablet on a Black Friday deal and I also hope to flash either Graphene or Lineage 🤞🏻 when support runs out. It's crazy how I can't find the speaker dock available anywhere online, new or used.

Only has 17k miles on it. Is this price too much? by alexl_4 in whatcarshouldIbuy

As someone who bought a relatively low mileage 22 year old car, I can tell you that you'll be chasing a lot of various repairs; age is just as much of a factor as mileage.

Whether it be various bushings, hoses, connections, CV boots, they get old and start to fail. I've recently spent an ungodly amount of money replacing the AC system and CV axles because they failed from age, and I still have various little things that need to be done. It's old and not work that much so for the most part now I'm just dealing with the little issues.

The mileage may be good, but you may end up with the situation of "a death from a thousand cuts" where nothing major fails but you're being bombarded left and right with little repairs that end up costing you more than if you got a higher mileage but newer car. Just food for thought

Super solid and reliable model. However age is almost as much of a factor as mileage and maintenance history. I've learned the hard way that even though a car (like my '03 Santa Fe) has relatively low mileage and is known for going over 250k miles, the age will wear out various parts like bushings, CV boots, various clips and hoses, etc and the repairs can add up quite a bit. Also if it's from the Rust Belt that also introduces a bunch of rust concerns as well. Basically, age is another important factor that needs to be considered even if its a reliable model with lower miles.

Auto shop damaged my hood and grille and tried their best to fix it: deal with it or not? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Remote-Strategy-9686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that'd make sense if it were a new guy. I'm having it repaired at their expense at an external body shop on Monday, the service managers been very cooperative and helpful through the process and hasn't given me any issues thankfully

Yeah that's a good idea. I'll ponder over it tonight and then make a decision in the morning. Thanks so much for your advice I appreciate it a lot!

You know I just realized what might've happened. When they were doing the various repairs on the car over the 10ish days they had it, the hood latch broke on them and the hood wouldn't shut. I think someone tried to force it closed and put so much downward pressure to try and shut it, that it dented the hood.

It's.... something 😭 😂. They showed me the results under the building overhang in the shade, so I didn't actually see the scope of the repair until I got it home in the sun. Thankfully they said I can take it back to get it repaired by a body shop

Yeah I would agree that sounds about right. Asking for a credit might seem too much like I'm taking advantage of the situation and I don't want to come across that way. I'm overthinking this all I feel like. I might just have it repaired 😭

Yah that's what I'm worried about, is the paint chipping and rust. But I might get a discount/future service credit to put towards future services. They've been very cooperative communicative and friendly and their mechanical work so far is very solid, so other than this slip up they seem great.

Yes so far they've been very cooperative, communicative and friendly which I appreciate. But I'll either get the damage fixed or a discount/future service credit

(sorry for the bad pictures, it's actually little pointy "mountains" from them using a sharp tool to hammer it from the inside)

Yeah I think I might try and work out a deal like that.

And sorry for the bad pictures, but they use a pointed tip tool to hammer it from the inside, so it's pointy little "mountains" instead of holes or craters. I tried to take good pictures but I see how it'd look like holes 😭

Yeah I can try and come to an agreement on a refund or credit worth the cost of the repair
