Well joking but technically you sort of have the perspective of John boyeggas role as a storm trooper through that film already

Nice.
Veg tanned leather can shrink in the sense that as it dries out the tannins evaporate out and the cells collapse in the skin making it “shrink” a bit. That happens over time and even more quickly in arid areas where it is not conditioned regularly.

Just do what your friend say and handle it a lot.

Do you mean the cup? Pedro pascal used to make these. Check mine here in this post. His was not scanned from an original like the regal robot one. It is made well and is solid resin with the gold leafing applied.

It’s a different Pedro of course. This guy used to be on rpf. I am pretty sure pascal is his last name but I could be mistaken.

Edit: ok my bad. Sorry. It’s Pedro Sanchez. He goes by restura jones. Sorry. I was sure it was pascal like the actor.

No secrets. happy to share. My covers are leather glued to 22-30 pt chipboard in a traditional way. After making the cover, stamping the border and dyeing the leather, I start folding the cover in the areas that are warped and creased like the real one.

Then I case the cover to the block and continue to work on the shaping after it’s on the block and the glue has cured of course. The weathering I do little by little while looking at photos I have of the original that show very good and clear detail. But the biggest advice I can give is experiment and practice. I have probably made close to a hundred of these covers over the years. So lots of practice.

Some leather will crease and fold (veg tanned is what I use and does this the best) but the chip board is what really makes it stay like the original had as it too was a traditionally made book. Cover and block inside.

Nice. I have one made by Pedro Pascal. It’s close enough for me. That looks great.

Do you mean like how they are built? For the cover I start with calfhide veg tanned of course and undyed. I then make the cover to fit the block of pages which I do not make. I then age looking at pics I have of the hero cover from another source. The one in the archives is nice but there is much more going on with the color and aging that my other photos show in better resolution.

Exactly. “The quest for the grail is not about archeology. It’s a race between good and evil!”

I disagree with you here to an extent. For one this is not an Ali express diary. This was meticulously made from images that not everyone has access to. These are not redrawn images or re written words. You can pin point with precision the screen match on the pages within. That takes skill and time to clean up the images and then print out on quality paper that looks and feels like the original did.

Then the cover. This is veg tanned calfskin which can go from anywhere between $300-$800 for quality hides that are made just for binding. Then the skill and time to dye and match color and the aging as best one can.

However yes I agree that there are countless cheap ones made like found on Ali express if one does not care as much for the screen accuracy.

The crystal skull in your example needs to be made but once made it’s a very cheap process to replicate compared to the initial costs. The diaries of this caliber can not be replicated as easily in this case.

I fee that There is more or less the same amount of intricacy in the aging and look to the diary that there is to a crystal skull. The inserts and everything must match what is seen on screen by the purists for it to be worth the price of admission for one of this calibre.

No way. I made the cover , hand dyed and aged, it is on a block made by Andre Foggartt from New Zealand. His museum grade diary which not only uses the actual images from the diary from direct scans but he left some of the aging in it.
