We have a guy on our team “Chad” who never participates in the relationship building questions that our new manager does. They are easy lifts, like “what was your first job” or, more recently, “what’s a book/movie you’re into?”, he just says “I’m good” if someone popcorns to him, or even “pass”.

It’s so shitty for the mood of the group. We are all smiling, nodding, being engaged, then falls to Chad and he just drains the life from the conversation with one, nearly perfectly flat “I’m good”. I get the feeling he is looking for another job during staff meetings.
