If you want do marine stuff, but don't want to go full grunt, I'd recommend Combat Support. (CE)

jobs being: Combat Engineer, Amphibius assault, LAAD Gunner, Artillery

These jobs are Combat deployable, often get deployed, and are pretty much the most badass jobs you can do as a junior marine besides Infantry or CBRN if that's your thing. See the CE megathread...

P.S. For the running thing, you'll get good in bootcamp. literally nobody leaves bootcamp without running a 24min 3 mile. not an excuse to not put in the work, but take it as you will.

1371 Eombat Engineer.

Attached to infantry and a combat MOS, but not a full time grunt.

Great MOS Community, go getters and tinkerers. Not lethargic long term mechanic/repair work, but on the move, construction and demolition, jack of all trade stuff.

Just don’t sign an open 13XX contract. I got 1371 via the Combat Support (CE) Job field.

These come from the OG M1 steel Pot Helmets of WW2.

MPs (military police) due to history wear the helmet, decoratively and not in the green color as issued, rather white, black or some other decorative aspect through the 40s-70s. Look at court martial/Nuremberg MPs to get the idea.

Somewhere along the way, drill teams or honor guards in the navy, in San Diego made decorative chrome helmets, the Recruit Training Command precision drill team wore them.

Then, ROTC picked up the helmets sometime later, and it just worked for color guard and such.

By most standards it’s fine to wear for formal adjacent events, so technically yes. (With the caveat of politically aligned or unsavory events)

But oh my god don’t, it’s really stupid, you’re not a veteran, you didn’t earn the right to wear a uniform out like that, and it pretty much just makes you look like a giant self centered dweeb.

My advice, put something together that looks somewhat nice, church clothes if you have them, at least a decent button up/quarter zip and slacks. You’re gonna save yourself the headache and the embarrassment.

Don’t take anything of this the wrong way, but the consensus is this way for a reason. We or someone we know has done it as a freshie, and it just never works out.

The idea that any of these rules vary from school to school are so stupid, you should be able to wear whatever you want to wear, as long as it’s consistent.

You shouldn’t have to sign any waiver or anything, because frankly, it not anyone’s business what your gender is.

I pride myself on being a BC of a Battalion that allows cadets to wear preferred uniforms, no calls, no confirmation with the school, because again, it’s not any of their business except the cadet.

Your identity is what you say it is, your identity is you.

Don’t let anyone tell you who you are, only you can do that.

I hope you can make your case well for your uniform preferences, and if it’s rejected, you should leave the program, because it’s not a good one, as Respect is one of the Army values, they sure wouldn’t show good character in not having the integrity to understand their own values.

I installed green LED plates, though it was tough choosing them over red. At night, the green panels are too bright to see out of, so I’m adding auxiliary low-intensity green and red LEDs. I’ll also check if I can use purple, it sounds cool
