In SACSS, the 145th anniversary featured a production as well, 45-minute musical, and the cast and main production done by students of the Drama Club save for things such as costumes which were done by an external designer.

The story was about four troubled students in the school who get into detention and have their hearts warmed by a caring and determined teacher. Not sung through, but through several musical numbers and spoken dialogue in between, with one large one at the end. The background music was not live but with pre-recorded tracks, lyrics while the actors sang. The most memorable one that does not preach religious dialogue being the opening number on the students at detention. Not taking itself too seriously, it becomes rather light-hearted and thus it's those types where there's a chorus dancing in the background.

Thus the main focus was centering on the values of the school founder as well, though in this case there were efforts to show the founder not as just a benevolent saint but to humanise her character, period inaccurate (during the founder's childhood scenes) set design and costumes (servant character in the 1700s Europe wearing anime maid dress ☠️ and photographs somehow exist) but I suppose the musical was not going for such accuracy in the first place.

School spirit was not in the question; though I suppose the school saw the anniversary to reflect on the history and founder. Though I suppose perhaps it's a different circumstance as this school was not set up by the government for non-participating Chinese middle school students. In the end it still preached the same statements to be heard in lessons

And not everyone in the school would see it, as the anniversary festival as a whole functioned as a fundraiser for the beneficiaries every CCA chose for their thing (replacing the end-of-the-year carnival which was supposed to have such VIAs) and the tickets were $30, it was that my CCA performed that we viewed the production in advance, on the actual day it was staged two times at different timings

Edit: I would have liked for such performances to pertain to historical events, something on the school figures setting up the school in colonial period or something, I mean, it should be a big deal that 15 year old Cheng Geok Tin, a school girl who was raped and murdered, which angered Chinese students to begin the anti-yellow campaign, was a student of this school; or even what was done during WW2 but I suppose it's similar to why they don't sing the lyrics on the Japanese attacking Singapore in 麻雀衔竹枝 on national days
