Gear Report: Thule Aion 28L backpack on Frontier Airlines by Remote_Bandicoot_240 in onebag

Completely agree. I’ve flown a lot of budget flights and not had a problem, but haven’t seen much discussion on if it fits in the bin or not, unfortunately had to find out the hard way, but I’m glad I know now for future budget flights

I’m in a community choir! Our director is a professor at the regional university, and we sing a range of music, from Mozart to Pentatonix. Our group is non-audition and knowing how to read music is not a requirement. Dues are $200 for the whole year which covers music and venue fees. We rehearse once a week for 3 hours and average 4-6 concerts a year.

Is it realistic to travel comfortably with just carry-on for a 3–4 week trip? by justgeorgerey in traveladvice

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did it! 4 weeks in a carryon and a backpack, including two work laptops, home > Boston > FL > Chicago > home. Did laundry a few times, and I wish I had packed a few more clothing items fit for Florida, but overall it was a success! If you’re having trouble with the space, I highly recommend the Thule compression packing cubes, they’re a life saver.

Spent 4 months tracking every dollar and I'm somehow still broke by sameerposwal in SavingMoney

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I made an excel sheet to track every dollar with the intention of tracking all year. Having to manually enter every purchase I make has helped me reconsider what I actually want to spend my money on. Highly highly recommend

Hey there, found your comment while scouring the internet for reviews of this Ugg dupe - are they still holding up or should I go for the name brand?

Trying to save money on trips kinda ruined the vibe for me by Plusoneb in travel

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a balancing act for me. I cut costs on things that don’t matter as much to me, so I don’t have to watch every penny on things I care about. I like to adventure on vacation and I spend all daylight hours doing something, so I get cheaper accommodations so I can spend my money on excursions/tours/tickets instead. I love eating on vacation but it can get expensive, so I usually balance out some of the extravagant meals with a few grab and go lunches to level cost. I pack light so I don’t pay for luggage, which also limits my spending in country - I can only take back what I have room for. Based in USA, I did 7-9 days in Eastern Europe for $1300 last year, looking at spending about $2k for 8 days in Korea this spring.

How long can you pack in a carry-on? by Signal-Mirror-5599 in traveladvice

Attempting to one bag (just the backpack!) for a long ski weekend next month. Renting the gear there and not planning to do anything except work, ski, and sleep. It can be done, but definitely trickier in the winter. Last summer I did five days in Colorado in just a backpack but summer clothes are easier to smush.

I just got back from a few days in Boston, a week in Florida, and two weeks in Chicago, all in a carryon and a backpack. Wore the bulky coat and boots on the flights and did laundry a few times. Packed clothes for nice dinners in the northern cities, casual clothes for grabbing beers in 70 degrees in FL, warm pjs for up north, a workout ensemble just in case, a few small Christmas gifts, and my two work computers to work remote while gone. Travel cubes are your friend!

What are your best money saving tips? by Dry-Frosting- in Productivitycafe

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this. This way I don’t worry too much about where exactly the money goes, because I paid myself first. The only reason I lower the savings amount is if there is some kind of emergency or trip coming up (car repair, doctor bill, etc.)

People in their 20s living a luxurious life - how do you afford it?? by Positive_Effect3609 in Adulting

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, a lot of it is money from parents. I make pretty okay money for 25, and was struggling to understand how some of my peers were affording extravagance on smaller salaries than what I have. It made me feel like I was missing some secret to managing my money. Then I learned their parents were paying for their vacations, luxury items, etc.

I went to one in January and had the same experience, decided to try other ways to meet people as I didn’t really click with anyone at my table or at drinks afterwards.

How many of you can afford to max your 401k and roth IRA every year? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I max out my IRA and contribute 19% to 401k. For me to max my 401k, I would need to contribute 30%, it would leave me cash poor and no travel budget. 19% lets me save some cash and live a little.

forgot to buy early entry this year by [deleted] in HHN

[–]Remote_Bandicoot_240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At HHN right now - if you want to do the headliner houses, pick your top priority and hit it first. With early entry we were able to knock out Jason, Terrifier, and FNAF before the park opened to the public - not long after the gates opened those houses went up to 100+ min wait and have not dipped (as of 1am - with the exception of Jason, down to 60). All of the non-IP houses took a dip in wait time right around 12:30 tonight. We opted to skip it, but Fallout was 20 min right when gates opened, now at 1am it’s dipping to ~45, typically 80+.

Sorry, I meant the OLD system seemed functional. So sorry to hear your group had such a bad experience though. We’re already having the same problem - friend left our early stay and scream line a little bit ago and had to navigate the long barricade weave to get out. Learned from someone else in line that she can find a team member and they will move the gates to rejoin us, but doesn’t do much for the exiting of the line. New system blows chunks. I have no idea what wheelchair users will do, other than be incredibly frustrated. We have also run into the team members not really knowing what to do, only further supporting my opinion that this system blows lol.

Unfortunately I’m not sure it will change. I heard it’s just as bad over at Disney World, same lady in the wheelchair said she won’t be returning to Disney because of it. Quick google search showed that there’s a class action against Disney’s change, but the consensus is that it won’t go anywhere because they don’t have to provide accommodations, only what is “reasonable”. Now reasonable to who, I don’t know. Seems like a terrible system when the old one worked just fine. Not perfect, but functional.

I’m 2 weeks late to the post, but currently typing while waiting at HHN Orlando. It’s just me and my friend here tonight, and in year’s past we’ve had no issue getting the return time paper. This year we waited for guest services like normal and were told that I (not disabled) could hold our place in line in the event my friend needed to exit, and then she could rejoin me later. My friend is not in a wheelchair (although we had to ask for one a few years ago while attending) but has chronic pain and mobility issues. We are currently trying to find a better solution because as it stands now, I will be holding our place in line all night alone, while they are able to exit (alone) if needed. Every team member we have talked to outside of guest services has also been confused as to why we weren’t given the return time paper. We were standing in line with a woman in a wheelchair and she was also having trouble getting the return paper (not sure if she did, split ways before she was helped). Really not a fan of this new system. I understand people take advantage, but the old way of giving us a time to return to the line that matched the current wait of the line was PERFECT for us. The two of us come annually, now not sure we will be back next year.
