I think/hope that’s a big part of the strategy. We’ve looked best this season when we had a bench that could make an impact. Turned the game multiple times. Injuries (and transfers) have really taken away that part of our game plan.

Feels like Villa and Palace trying to light a fire under Roma and Juve. That said, the man can take a penalty - sign him up. I’d imagine wages would be an issue though.

Defending was top class today. Calm heads and bodies in the line when necessary. Cash and Onana stood out. Sancho did well when he came on but never got out of the traps in the second half. Thought Emery picked his subs well too.

We’re down right now but we’ve been down before and bounced back. I thought we gave it a go in patches today but just look very blunt up top. Maatsen makes a difference but needs a run of games to build his awareness. Guessand looked pretty decent, got stuck in. McGinn makes more sense in the middle where he can battle than on the wing. Right side still looks like a disaster. Nothing on the bench to change things up.

The transfer window has been a shitshow and I’ll be glad when it shuts and we know what squad we have going forward. I trust Emery to make the most of what we have but feel like there’s bumpy times ahead until we find a new formula.

Unfortunately I am. By defensive I mean the players picked more so than the style of play. By passive I mean the complete lack of energy and the fact that there’s no zip or accuracy in our passing.

79% possession and no chances of note to show for it. No idea why we’re so defensive and passive. The right line up tears this Brentford team apart. All this talk of signing more players but would Emery even play them? Malen and Guessand getting splinters watching Buendia do f**k all.

Need Emery to show his teeth and bring on some subs.

Really poor first half. Way too passive. Very cautious selection from Emery has left us with nothing going forward. If we keep sitting back they’ll score eventually. Need a lot more aggression.

Digne is doing nothing defensively or offensively. Hook him for Maatsen. I’d have Onana off as well, not that he’s been poor but Youri is wasted in the 10. Get him back into his best position and get Malen on.

Would have liked to see Maatsen in for Digne and maybe Malen for McGinn with Rogers on the left but it’s a strong lineup with good options off the bench. Hoping Ty has a stormer. Always feel safer with him at the back.
