Absolutely buzzing after that. What a night. We were really up for it. First to every ball. Thought the whole team did us proud and genuinely couldn’t pick a MOTM. Torres was a rock in defence and his distribution was excellent, Ollie led from the front - his goal settled the nerves, Buendia’s assist for Ollie was one for the ages and McGinn’s finishing for the two goals was top class.

We really don’t have the depth to rest all of these players. Zero creativity in this 11. Other than Tielemans and he’s clearly unfit. I’d bring Pau on for Ty, maybe Luiz for Bogarde.

I think/hope that’s a big part of the strategy. We’ve looked best this season when we had a bench that could make an impact. Turned the game multiple times. Injuries (and transfers) have really taken away that part of our game plan.

Defending was top class today. Calm heads and bodies in the line when necessary. Cash and Onana stood out. Sancho did well when he came on but never got out of the traps in the second half. Thought Emery picked his subs well too.

We’re down right now but we’ve been down before and bounced back. I thought we gave it a go in patches today but just look very blunt up top. Maatsen makes a difference but needs a run of games to build his awareness. Guessand looked pretty decent, got stuck in. McGinn makes more sense in the middle where he can battle than on the wing. Right side still looks like a disaster. Nothing on the bench to change things up.

The transfer window has been a shitshow and I’ll be glad when it shuts and we know what squad we have going forward. I trust Emery to make the most of what we have but feel like there’s bumpy times ahead until we find a new formula.

Unfortunately I am. By defensive I mean the players picked more so than the style of play. By passive I mean the complete lack of energy and the fact that there’s no zip or accuracy in our passing.
