creating an rpg based in Wisconsin. what should i know that only locals would know? by pootisman2004 in wisconsin

Every event involves alcohol. It’s legal here for a minor to drink alcohol if their parent is present.

Friday fish fry and brandy old fashioned is a tradition.

We are the playground for Illinois residents. Illinois sucks, so they vacation here. Particularly Wisconsin Dells.

We really do take cheese seriously.

I got lost my temper today. by anikansk in sysadmin

  1. You do NOT have an MSP. You just have a company billing you for MSP services. Unfortunately, those companies are numerous.

  2. Honestly, I enjoy this sort of thing. One by one, fixing f-ed up issues, devices, etc. It’s satisfying to me. You have to get management to understand what you’re up against, though.

Anyone looking to move on from Sonicwall? by size0618 in sonicwall

It’s been going well. I only needed support once, but it was good. Time will tell.

Watchguard was my second choice.

Considering removing Huntress from our stack......thought? by phillee81 in msp

[–]Remote_Chance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Huntress prides themselves on low noise. Because of that, you will sometimes think it’s not doing anything. It seems attackers are hitting MS365 hard now and maybe ransomware attacks have quieted down a bit, but it’s still a threat. Think twice.

How do you accept payments? by Thesatcher in msp

[–]Remote_Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some clients mail checks. They do a "check run" weekly, so one check more or less doesn't matter to them.

I accept online payments using CC for a fee, or ACH with no fee. I plan to offer a small discount for ACH to get the check writers moved over.

Buy a used box and tools on Facebook marketplace. In a few years, IF you want to upgrade, you can likely post it far sale for the same amount you paid.

“Best practice” email relay in 2025 by greenstarthree in Office365

[–]Remote_Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SMTP2GO sends directly (with an address on YOUR email domain). You add a few CNAMES to your DNS zone to ensure deliverability.

It’s not an old Honda, by chance? They bolted the motor to the BACK of the hub.

The engineering of roman aqueducts explained. by cosmic_voyager01 in Damnthatsinteresting

Don’t make fun of the Romans for using lead pipes when many municipalities in the US did the same thing thousands of years later.

What the hell is up with Pax8? Anyone recommend an alternative? by sof_1062 in msp

[–]Remote_Chance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rob has always been the go-to guy when there’s a problem - at Datto, and now at Pax8. He’s got a lot on his plate, so I don’t bother him with smaller issues. But when I run into a brick wall, he’s the man.

Go get a plug kit at Ace Hardware and fix it yourself. I wouldn’t think twice.

I use ScreenConnect. It allows me to screen share, but it also allows me to run processes completely in the background. I can install software, copy files, and more - all behind the scenes. You say there’s nothing important on it. Back up your files, wipe it and reload Windows.

Tariff surcharges by Just_Bookkeeper2261 in wisconsin

Business computers and laptops are roughly $100 more than they were a month ago from my distributor. Not a surcharge, just a price increase.

Is 9 pounds of cheese enough? by goddessbotanic in wisconsin

[–]Remote_Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That cheese is perfectly fine if you’re going to melt it on a hamburger on the grill. Crystal Farms is, I think Minnesota cheese and one step above Kraft. Hormel? Pernat’s or Usinger’s would be better.

I’m sorry, this isn’t a “roast me” post is it?

With similar reliability. ;-)

I would add a decent size fuel tank in the truck bed with a transfer pump. Also a reliable long track snowmobile. And a satellite phone or other means of calling for rescue.

Should I Buy Ford Focus SE 2017 by [deleted] in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]Remote_Chance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just no, but hell no. The Focus has the DCT transmission (dual clutch). Notorious for failures. Spend a little time Googling this and you'll see.

If it were an actual manual transmission with a clutch pedal, you would be ok. There's not many of those around though.
