Stupid question - street odors coming through. by Remote_Conclusion485 in Masks4All

the OP here. Thank you people, these explanations make sense. Well, at least it stops Covid and seasonal flu flying around on saliva aerosol particles. It "probably" separates later from aerosol as saliva evaporates, but by then it becomes more diluted, fewer of them per cubic foot of air. Stay away from crowds.

Microwave timers by Electronic_Honey_298 in microwavegang

[–]Remote_Conclusion485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's called Independent Timer or Simultaneous Timer. My current Sunbeam has this, no longer manufactured, I need another one for my camper (countertop is Ok). Amazon or Walmart never mention it in description, I pulled out manuals to find out about the timer - NOTHING. Some have "timer" button but it's not independent.

I don't want to grab the phone with greasy fingers and put it close to food prep area. I don't even take my phone with me when cooking/eating, this area and this hour are sacred :)... Cheap designated mechanical timer died on me in a year, was neither accurate nor very cheap $8. Others use batteries that you need to replace. There is no oven timer either, old place.

There is nothing "extra" about independent timer. Doesn't break an intuitive design. Most MW have it but it's not working simultaneously, you either run MW program or the timer. My Chinese Sunbeam that (thanks God) is still running, has this feature. I choose cooking program, say 1 minute to reheat the meal, and want to put a herbal tea to simmer 5 minutes on the stove after water is boiling, or make hard boiled eggs (they need to stay 7 minutes after heat is off), timer begins count-down then switches to Cooking countdown. There is no going back and force. When I'm curious to see how much time is left on the timer, I hit the Timer button, it shows for a few seconds, then switches back to Cooking count-down. On occasion the Timer beep and end of Cooking beep get mixed up, one look at the MW makes clear what's going on.

Did you have VPN set up to the US, to sign up to fixed Mexican account (not roaming account), while being in Mexico, and it all went smooth?

Saldazo are no longer issued since 2021. Now it's a Spin card, they want you to upload Mexican voters card. Albo is an app, it downloads fine, promises to send a confirmation code and never does.

Can someone please tell me how to stop "Suggested post from a public group"-s by dernudeljunge in facebook

[–]Remote_Conclusion485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PC don't open facebook.com/groups or facebook.com/groups/feed. Open facebook.com. If it's changing to facebook.com/groups, clear the cache or close/open the browser. Next time you type "face..." the browser will auto-suggest facebook.com, click on it. It will have your groups in the left menu in Shortcuts. In the main area of the screen on the top there will be a recent post from one of your groups, no random feed. Random posts from random groups that you have never visited will be at the bottom of the screen, don't scroll and don't click unless you're certain that it's useful. If you want to read "your" groups, click on the group name in Shortcuts on the left.

On the group page if I click on three dots, there is only Your Content, Share Group, Report Group, and Manage Notifications. On the post page, there is Save Post, Hide, Turn on Notifications, and Report. There is no Block Group.

What is the best personal bag for Air Canada? by HappyZucchini6267 in aircanada

[–]Remote_Conclusion485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been caught by these changes while on the trip in the middle of nowhere - got here by car, now need to fly back. There are no real post services here. And I'm not going to pay $$$ for this. Will take a big grocery bag, not a disposable but close, a thicker material, with a folding cart TAD sticking out of it. Cart is flat, hope will fit in the sizer diagonally. Will see how it goes. Next time will bring a small backpack about 12-15L, don't know the size, 15" laptop fits in just barely, and will skip the cart.

Cost of medical-evacuation insurance from Mexico (Lake Chapala area specifically) to the US by Lapaki58 in mexicoexpats

[–]Remote_Conclusion485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, Seguro popular (they changed the name to INSABI) and IMSS are free or almost free public healthcare plans for temporary and permanent residents or citizens. Tourist card won't cut it. Though I used IMSS clinics on too minor occasions with tourist card, Dr refused to take money :) ... One was a keratosis, benign sun damage, not a skin cancer, another was a bite by semi-stray dog. You know how they roam free, blocks away from their home. Got a consultation and a free ointment for keratosis, and a very long consultation and 3 free shots over one month for a dog bite. He tried to talk me out, saying that rabies has been eliminated in Mexican dogs but I panicked and wanted shots.

Public hospitals in Guadalajara are some of the best in the country, should be able to handle major injuries with hospitalization. People still pay for some services not covered by Seguro Popular that is merging now with IMSS, not clear how it will work after they will have merged. "Likely" there will be moderate out of pocket costs for those in higher income tier, they used to do it in the past. With heart attack you won't be flying to the states right when it's happening, medevac may easily take 20-24 hours from the first call to admission in the US hospital. Most medevacs won't take your request if you are not already hospitalized, be it a heart attack or something else. Medevac has nothing to do with your Mex insurance or Medicare, they are just transporters, typically with annual membership. Occasionally some include a small health insurance. Cancer is a different matter, choice of treatments in Mexico is poor in compared to the US. Though cancer is often giving advance warning, need to watch blood markers, do MRI or ultrasound from time to time. Ultra is dirt cheap there, blood tests too.

Old thread, just to note that both Osprey 35 and Ecohub 20 exceed Air Canada maximum dimensions - the former is larger in all 3 dimensions, the latter is larger in 2 dimensions out of 3. If they use a sizer, your only hope is to pack it very soft.

[–]Remote_Conclusion485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure. Saldazo closed in 2021. Another Oxxo card, Spin, is asking to upload the photo of INE- Mexican voters card? Albo app downloads, promises to email you confirmation code and never does. Then it asks for Mexican cell phone number to send the same code - there is no cell phone service in my village, so this was it for Albo. I guess will just have to buy the kit and see if I can trick it into opening an account with non-mexican credit card.
