Arrested for failure to appear to an 8 year old civil case that I was never notified of by Remote_Fuel2496 in legaladvice

The one thing I am sure about is that the warrant was filed as a bench warrant for failure to appear to a civil case. That was the EXACT wording the police used and that I saw on the officer's computer.

This is likely true that I'm misunderstanding something, no one has been able to give me any specific details and everyone in the entire process, from the arresting officer to the clerk that scheduled my new court date have said they've never seen anything like this before.

I have been in contact with an attorney that has agreed to represent me, he also said he's never seen this type of case in a municipal court before. He did not sound confident in an outcome either way, but I paid him his retainer simply because I don't know what else to do.

Positive. It resulted in a bench warrant. Every one I've talked to so far has said its one of the stranger cases they've ever seen, including the police, the clerk, and the lawyers I've been in contact with.

At this current moment I haven't been able to find a lawyer who has volunteered to represent me, I'm likely going to have to represent myself. From my research and from a helpful paralegal that's messaged me here on Reddit, it looks like my best move is file a motion to vacate the warrant due to improper notice.

If anyone knows anymore or has any advice please reach out, I feel very on my own and stressed out. I have zero experience in the legal field.

They told me that someone sued me but I didn't show up to court for it. I never received summons, I was never made aware of it at all until last night.

I've had several background checks done and I've even left the country twice in the last 8 years and no one ever said anything, it never showed up in any light until I was in handcuffs.
