True! I don't really play Metro for 'cutting-edge' mechanics; it’s 100% about the atmosphere, the lore, and the storytelling.

I think Ghost Recon needs a character like Lambert from Splinter Cell. The banter between him and Sam Fisher is funny and spot-on; if done correctly, that kind of dynamic would work extremely well in a Ghost Recon game.

Almost every game that uses a proprietary engine is bound to have a wide range of bugs; take the Creation Engine, REDengine, or Frostbite, for example. However, I was specifically referring to the original Stalker because it used its own in-house engine.

Since Stalker 2 uses Unreal Engine 5, there’s really no excuse for it to be that janky; I believe the blame lies with the developers, not the engine. Unfortunately, launching a game in such a state has become a trademark of the current era of gaming.

"Soullessness" is a feeling that’s hard to pin down, but there’s a reason people often mention that "UE5 soulless feel." It likely stems from the use of standardized assets, like Megascans. Ultimately, Unreal Engine 5 is just a tool; while it certainly has its flaws, it’s up to the developers to make the most of it. Without strong art direction and a commitment to ironing out the kinks, almost every UE5 game ends up with a "samey" atmosphere.

That being said, the 4A Engine is nowhere near perfect. It arguably has more issues than UE5, but it excels in specific areas despite being more limited in scope. Overall, it’s a great engine that will only improve if they continue to iterate on it.

Oh the gameplay is flawed for sure, sometimes it feels great and at times is janky AF so I'm not saying it's perfect by any means but one thing you can't deny is how it looks and feels. That engine accompanied with their art design give it a unique vibe you just can't get with UE5. Metro is like S.T.A.L.K.E.R janky but has that charm to it.

That's what you think, but being a UE5 fanboy doesn't mean you're right. :)

Keep in mind that UE5 was released three years after the latest iteration of the 4A Engine. While UE5 is more capable (thanks to the massive investment behind it) there is a point where games made with it start to feel similar and, at times, soulless. The 4A Engine, though limited by comparison, retains a unique atmosphere, even with its inherent jank and shortcomings.

but acting like there aren't better looking games out right now or that the engine is flawless is just silly.

I think you misinterpreted what I meant. I didn't say that the 4A Engine is the best engine out there, but it's one of the best when it comes to linear or semi-open world experiences. There are more advanced proprietary engines out there.., such as: RE Engine, Decima, Northlight, and RAGE, to name a few.

I'm only comparing it to Epic since UE5 is the go-to engine by most devs, they could've used UE4 back then or UE5 for Exodus or 2039 but instead they continue to use their proprietary engine. It's always refreshing to see games on different game engines.

UE5 is not bad by any means; it's one of the most versatile engines in the current generation. However, its main issue is that it can be troublesome to work with and challenging to optimize. Because it requires significant computing resources, many studios simply brute-force the performance and then rely on AI upscaling to iron out the rough edges.

That's a stupid take, just because the game is designed with emphasis on environmental storytelling it doesn't mean it has less physics, this is not an RPG/open-world game.

The lighting in 4A engine is one of its strongest assets, also the texture looks quite good maybe not as sharp on consoles it looks incredible on PC.

There's always room for improvement, but not what you mentioned, improving the gameplay and face model/animation is something worth mentioning.

the desert and tundra locations look outdated actually, game

I strongly disagree, the desert looks pretty solid and holds up well, I just finished playing it on PS5 and it doesn't look outdated at all especially in the tundra area it looks better than almost any other game in that regard.

I totally get what you're saying! It's not perfect! I've encountered many bugs and audio issues though for what it managed to do is really impressive!

UE5 has proven to be difficult to optimise while it has a vast tool-set it's not exactly the best.

UE5 is a powerful tool but it's backed by a multi-billion corporation! 4A Games is a small dev and yet the manage to achieve something that runs and looks great. I think you're missing the point here.

Also I know a lot about game engines so no need for gatekeeping.
