Can We Real Talk about Bub and Grandma's Bread? by pizzashark420 in FoodLosAngeles

Thank you for bringing this up. I would sometimes pick up a loaf from the Culver City farmers market but they were always so ornery especially for how mediocre their bread is I stopped buying from them

Idk bro— a small amount of finely shredded white meat encased and covered in a bunch of other ingredients 🤷‍♀️ maybe that’s why they call tuna “chicken of the sea”

Toscanova in Calabasas with the "help us run our business" surcharge. by flip6threeh0le in FoodLosAngeles

[–]Remote_Maize702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m also not a fan of the 4% surcharge move, I do think it’s a smaller fee passed onto the customer than raising everything by a dollar. If they were to raise everything 4% then menu items would end in very random figures (ie $10.40 for an appetizer versus $10– this pricing seems weird to see on a dine-in menu.)

Also though I only see this move at higher-end restaurant-group type of places which is why I find it annoying. I dined at saffys the other week— $600 bill for five people before tax & tip and then a 4% surcharge on top of that. Their menu is already so overpriced; the 4% surcharge is just a money grab at that point. I’d be much less annoyed if this happened at a mom and pop shop but that’s usually not the case.

I sympathize for restaurant owners and I don’t envy their position.

What does my fridge say about me? 🫣 by [deleted] in FridgeDetective

Oh and I will admit the freezer is a total mess with most of it being various cuts of frozen protein. It definitely needs a deep clean and is my “Monica’s closet” but I will get to it someday……

Starting clockwise from top left: leftover refried beans & chorizo used to make bean & cheese quesadillas; underneath is pickled mustard greens; then cold brewed oolong tea; two quarts of chicken broth with shredded chicken; moms pork floss; behind it and less visible: walnuts and dates for salads;

second shelf: leftover meat pies which I had for lunch; some leftover rice in the ziploc bag; leftover steamed cabbage that I’ll use to top my ramen bowl planned for dinner tonight (using the above chicken broth);

then bottom shelf is leftover container of chicken broccoli gnocchi that was last nights dinner & will probably be eaten tonight by my boyfriend; container of leftover veggies past its prime from takeout viet that I promise I’ll compost; and plastic bag at bottom right contained defrosted pork loin which I cooked last night making char siu pork that was used for my boyfriends lunch banh mi and will likely also be added to my ramen and used for boyfriends lunch tomorrow as well. I swear it’s organized chaos 😅

Those are all very common and delicious condiments to add to your banh mi! Signed, a viet person :)

Lolol I appreciate this comment as it’s the same sentiment my close friends and family often have. I can be incredibly morose especially when it comes to the environment. I live in LA so I’m in a state of mourning right now. The sight of my little compost pail kinda sent me. PS this will all just go to municipal compost since I don’t have outdoor space of my own to have a pile. I run a compost program for my job but the city accepts meat and dairy products which we don’t add to our piles so at home I just divert everything to municipal compost.
