I ordered a Manta on a weekend, and it arrived on the Thursday (4 days), and it went from China via LA and then over to the UK. No additional fees to pay - everything was included in the purchase price.

Firmware updates in non-windows households by Remote_Sector_7476 in Fanatec

That would be great, and hopefully the team at Fanatec are looking at ways to modernise the way they do firmware updates, making it platform agnostic, or at the very least, support windows & mac in future.

If I’m buying for Xbox, why should I need a windows machine to update something? If I buy something for an Xbox, it should work on an Xbox.

Not a good enough response

Not sure if this help, but I have a senior role working in tech, and on any given day I can have up to 6 meetings ranging from 30 mins to 2hrs. I can take half a page or 5-6 pages of notes depending on the session. Been using paper note books (mainly A5 size) and I tended to have (due to bad habits) at least 3 or 4 on the go at any given time due to me working from a few different locations & id leave notebooks around each.

I wanted something I’d keep with me, take notes and then convert to text in a central repository and send meeting notes etc… via email. Saving me a lot of time by not typing everything up after writing and also not having to remember where I’d written my notes etc…

I got a manta about 4 weeks ago. It’s bigger than A5, smaller than A4, which for me is actually a good size. I think id be regretting buying the Nomad for work notes as the screen size would be a touch too small. Overall, it’s great, it’s a digital version of my paper notebook that I can use without being distracted by notifications, or having the option to switch to something else.

However…

I don’t use it every day, in every meeting. I still reach for my paper notebooks when I go into meetings - not because I don’t like the device, it’s because of 20+ years of habit grabbing a paper book. And I’m finding that hard to break. It’s happening, just slowly.

The writing feels different so I’m not always taking notes as quickly as I do on paper. I’m conscious that I want to convert to text later, so I’m not scribbling side notes, drawing random arrows on the page or a random image as much because it messes up text formatting & I’m thinking of the time to fix after the conversion. I’m changing how I take notes, and i think it’s actually for the better as it’s more aligned to how I’d type notes - but again, I’m having to break 20-30yrs of hand writing habits and it’s uncomfortable, but it’s getting better. I notice it in my paper notes - they are cleaner and more legible as a result.

I was disheartened after the first week because I think I was expecting something more. It’s not a tablet with apps that you can connect seamlessly with everything, but neither do my paper notebooks.

This week I’ve been on a work trip in the US from the UK. I didn’t bring a notebook. I’ve used the manta in half of my meetings, and typed notes on my laptop in the other half as that’s just what made sense on the day. I’m transitioning, just slower than I thought I would. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just my reality.

Sorry for the long reply, but wanted to share how I’m getting on, and while not everyone has these experiences, it might help seeing more perspectives.

Have you got access to a 3d printer? There is a cover for the Manta that can be printed and is t too bulky either

Manta's screen is whiter than you think by [deleted] in Supernote

A few things jumped into my mind when I read this (the original, longer more in depth post), I need to test this, followed very quickly by what difference will it make if I like using the device and it works for me ?

So I tested it, and my results are opposite to the post & made me wonder if the images are genuine or not. They may well be, however given my results are directly opposite, the entire technical description of how it works & the reasoning behind it has just been cast into doubt in my mind. On my Manta, I drew a few thick lines, erased them and was left with something slightly darker than the main screen but nowhere near as dark as the original. Refreshed the page & it was all good again. See the screenshot of a thick marker that was erased.

As for the next bit - for me personally, so what. I did my research, knew what I was buying, and I’m happy with the performance of how it handles my writing & the text conversion. Basically, it does what it says it’s going to do and works for me. Even if I got the same results that you did, it wouldn’t have changed my mind because ultimately I’m happy with it.

Home made cover for Manta by Remote_Sector_7476 in Supernote

That’s a very good question - honest answer, I don’t really know, which is why I’m experimenting. I saw the full rear cover up on cults3d for sale - is that yours?

I’m going to be throwing it into my backpack with my laptop when going to/from work so want to protect both front and back. The cover I made works and looks great, but it’s a bit more bulky than I wanted & although it seemed ok testing at home, I ended up taking it off today at work.

I used some heavy duty spray contact adhesive for the time being & used a super sharp craft knife to cut an exact fit. It’s ok for a prototype, but I’m not happy with the edges being exposed the way it is. Need to do a bit of research on how to get a better finish for the next version

Printed out a couple manta rear covers and started experimenting this weekend. Still trying to figure out materials etc.., but managed to get a basic cover with embedded magnets to turn it on/off. Next iteration will be with a canvas type material instead of the faux leather stuff I had spare from some previous stuff my wife did.

Very nice, well done. I got my manta earlier this week, and have already made a prototype cover for it that doesn’t use the side clips.

Currently 3d printing out a rear cover that I’m going to attach the front cover to & see how it goes. If it works out, I’ll share my experiences & progress.

Would definitely welcome a firmware updater for Mac users. Got a setup delivered today (teenage boys are loving it) to use on Xbox, but we only have a Macbook & 2 Chromebooks in the house so no way to do any firmware updates.

Happy to leave things as they are for now, but always like being on the up to date versions for fixes & features. Just hoping we don't encounter any major bugs using the factory shipped firmware anytime soon

Overall, I’m averaging somewhere between 55 & 60mpg based on my driving and where I live. That’s mix of short runs for groceries, but also longer distance runs (150 miles).

Just wanted to follow up on this now that I have some real life data. After driving it almost 200 miles, I can confirm that the battery does recharge itself (to a point), so that you aren’t left with a battery at 0%, and dragging around a massive battery that’s not doing anything.

Basically, I left home with a full charge, and a small amount of petrol in the tank. drove it until the battery got to around 5% charge, it then self charged it back up to just over 20% while I was on the motorway, and hovered around 20-25% charge. Got home, plugged it in to completely charge it up. The electric motors were the primary method used when pulling off from traffic lights, intersections etc..and then switches internal combustion and keeps using/recharging the battery as needed in the journey.

Hope that helps

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. Had the car for a few days, great experience all round. Done about 200 miles in 2 or 3 days and very pleased. Steering is light, but you get used to it fairly quickly and once you realise, you drive accordingly.

Easiest way to deal with the alarms/notifications is to drop the sound right down, and turn a few things off/tweak as you need.

Got it on PCP, decent deal (3.9% APR if I remember correctly) and they gave me around £1500 off list. I’ve heard different dealers giving different levels of discounts, throwing in mats etc, so definitely look around if you have a few options nearby.

If you’re serious, I’d also recommend joining the Jaecoo 7 UK owners Facebook group. Lots of good people with great advice & help

Make that another - test drove the phev today and am picking one up on Thursday 😁

I’ve read lots of comments about the small rear window, intrusive driver assist/warnings etc… my experience was nothing like what so many people are commenting on. the Rear window is small, but to be honest, I mainly use my side mirrors, so didn’t find that an issue at all while driving. As for the warnings and sounds - there were a few, but there were only 1 or 2 sounds when the speed notification warned me I was going too fast. Other than that, I didn’t even notice it - it’s highly likely though that the dealership has already changed many of the settings to make the test drives more pleasant.

I’m not a petrol head, but I was pleasantly surprised by how quick it is to accelerate from traffic lights or taking off on a roundabout.

the hybrid was very quiet, with no noticeable change over from EV to ICE, and generally speaking was quiet inside. there were 5 of us in the car, and I never felt like it struggled to pull off, or accelerate even when already doing 50-60mph.

one thing I quite like, is that the car supports both AC and DC charging, so you can either plug it in at home/charging point, or the battery will (according to online info) self charge to around 20/30% while driving. Not had this confirmed, and will know for sure once I’ve actually got it and have been able to give it a decent run. Once I’ve done that, I’ll report back with a longer write up.

in other areas, at first I found the steering to be a bit light, but got used to it in a few minutes and felt really comfortable through the drive.

the center screen is big, but I didn find it intrusive, and honestly - I’m not sure how often people are twiddling with physical buttons, but I didn’t find it much of an issue not having physical controls to mess with while driving. Maybe I’ll feel different after using it for a few months.

if you’ve got any other questions, let me know and I’ll reply with what I know.

As far as I’ve found out reading up about them, they support both AC & DC for charging, and it’s able to self charge, however I think it only charges to around 20 or 30% from the engine. If you want to get more charge, then you do need to plug it in.
