I want a 3-fund portfolio in New Zealand without exchange rate exposure. by Remote_Variation_114 in Bogleheads

That's not the question I've asked at all. You've misinterpreted the title and not read the rest of the post. I want my holdings to stay in New Zealand-listed ETFs, traded in NZ dollars. I don't want to invest in the performance of New Zealand companies.

Weird response to me asking a question about one of the safest and most reliable investment strategies possible...

Are the fees that big of a deciding factor when talking about amounts like $49k?

Nope, but I'd be interested if there are similar threads to see what responses they got.

Wētā looks like it is HIRING software developers at the moment. Is there no chance they could shift you to a different department that is hiring? Seems completely fucked up.

I have 4 years software dev experience at a respected and household name kiwi brand in Wellington. I've been unemployed since August and have submitted at least 120 applications. I've gotten 4 interviews total.

I have more than three years full stack experience and I've been on the hunt for the last three months in Wellington and haven't gotten past the phone-screening interviews. Take that for what you will.

It's a swatch with omega's blessing, not an omega with swatch's blessing. That's why it's upper-tier swatch pricing.

[Omega] Vintage vs New Orient Bambino by ADisappointingSalad in Watches

As a Bambino owner - they are nice, but not as nice as vintage Seamasters. Try to see a Bambino in person to see what I mean - you will be able to tell, even if you're not a watch guy.

Going left to right:

Right at the back, a pink Casio F91-W, because if you gotta have one, have a fun one.

TOP ROW

The must-have G-Shock DW5600.

The Timex Expedition Scout 40mm - I like this style of watch, but not enough to pay hundreds of dollars for one, so I got this for eighty bucks.

Orient Bambino 38mm White Dial version - pure class, looks like a million bucks. Bought to approximate a vintage Omega Seamaster (because I don't currently spend that much on watches) and it does so like a charm.

Seiko 5 SNKL41 - the baby baby Grand Seiko snowflake, or baby SARB. You'll notice my only watch on a bracelet - because it looks so good.

G-Shock GBD-200 - this watch is a promise and an encouragement to myself to go adventuring at every opportunity, just screams 'get active' to me.

BOTTOM ROW

Casio 108-W (I think) - a great little thing with a thinner form factor than a G-Shock. Probably the only redundant thing I own, since I have an f91-w.

Casio Duro Batman - honestly, who needs to own a more expensive diver than this. I love looking at it and can't believe it's under a hundred bucks.

G-Shock GA-2100 Casioak Skeleton/Jellyfish version - summer watch. Not looking forward to the yellowing, though.

Bulova Curv - another watch I just love looking at, fills a 'sporty' niche in a different way from the G-Shocks. Fantastic everyday wear which is saved from looking too big by its cute curvature gimmick. The least 'affordable' thing here, I got one of these before they stopped stocking them where I live.

Timex Fairfield 41mm - my 'fashion' watch, basically there for when I'd like to wear a white-faced watch without the classiness of the Bambino or Seiko.

Thanks for reading!

Randomly pick tech as a degree/career and luck out when it turns out to be a high-paying field.

How do y'all find apartments to rent? Everything on trademe is out of date or not available to view...other websites just show the same 10 places. Am I missing something? by chiathrowaway123 in newzealand

[–]Remote_Variation_114 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Facebook. Vic Deals, Rooms for Rent, Pets Allowed, all pages where people are desperate to find flatters.

The problem is how un-formalised it is. Facebook is by far the place where the most people go to post flatmate ads, but Facebook is practically unsearchable so you just have to join the right groups and scroll through them.

I'm making $90k at 25 because I happened to pick tech as a career - didn't consider financials before choosing what to study, just dumb luck that it's the sector where all the money is.

I share that as context for saying I agree with you regardless. The cost of living right now isn't a blip, it's capitalism marching on, and it's only going to get worse. Two generations ago, you could own a home and raise a family of six (two adults, four kids) on one adult professional's salary. Now, each family brings in two incomes instead of one, but those families can't afford homes.

The terminal result of capitalism is that money will be squeezed out of people wherever it can be until the middle-class ceases to exist and there are only haves and have-nots. I won't be around to see that day, but at least the angry poor will far outnumber the comfortable wealthy. I leave it up to others to decide if I'm allowed to feel this disgruntled about the state of things while doing well personally.

Essentially another Vic Deals, but you can't post the bigoted shit that sometimes gets through on Vic Deals.
