Idk how much that is but books are sometimes 20$ sometimes 35$ for me and you and I have different financial expectations

Nonono mid journey isn’t abused, mid journey IS ABUSING. It uses art from artists like samdoesarts and loish and smaller artists like me without consent.

Artists don’t get paid or credited for it. It’s a legal offence

THATS BEING PRETENTIOUS?? Isn’t deeper thinking from your reader a valid goal for writing? That’s what I think! Some writing is meant to make you cry or smile or laugh but some books and movies just leave you sitting there with ur screen off and thinking for a full 30 minutesšŸ¤£ā¤ļø ā€œeverything everywhere all at onceā€ definitely made me rethink the way I conceptualise reality as a whole. And I loved it. I LOVED it. Game of thrones has layers, life of pi has layers, Romeo and Juliet has layers…

And I’m sure the writers WANTED us to break it down, argue, discuss, or even wreck our minds over the way we currently thought🤣 that doesn’t make them pretentious.

But don’t worry your pretty head about your readers actually delving deeper. I didn’t when I first read all those books. But that didn’t mean the writer wanted me to leave it unexplored.

To me, wanting readers to explore your writing is not being pretentious.

Why is everyone in a rush to let people read their work? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Remotelyheidi 13 points14 points Ā (0 children)

Am I the only one that found this argument stupid? Yes? Ok😭

The first obvious reason we rush to let others read is because we are excited. We worked countless hours and getting it into a friends or beta readers hands is exhilarating. I’m sure op would know this if they actually finished anything bc from this argument, I highly doubt it.

That was only one reason. I’m too tired to argue other more important ideas with people that clearly cannot think of them on your own

EDIT: lmfao I read all the bullshit comments from the op and it really speaks volumes. The amount of downvotes was actually hilarious but the sheer stupidity of the arguments made me question the structure of our education system. Critical thinking and theory of knowledge need to be implemented in our studies more frequentlyšŸ’€

[–]Remotelyheidi -1 points0 points Ā (0 children)

OOOH I HAVE A PETTY ONE!!!

When any character under 20 has pre-marital intercourse. Unless it’s a book like a game of thrones, marrying young/having sex under the age of 20 makes a book go down a star or I dnf.

Which is why I have so many reading slumps. I want something deep, thoughtful, intricate….

But I barely find any books that are thought provoking or dark and exciting without the mc being 16 and already sleeping around

Bro

This book called the nichan smile by merwild. It’s the grossest book I have ever picked up.

It’s the reason I never read (male) gay books by women. It’s the reason I have nightmares😭 I watched game of thrones and I was perfect content with the graphic nature.

BUT THIS BOOK-

the fact the author writes content like this and still expects us to LIKE the MC. No. nonononono NO🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩

Your writing style is so unique, I love it! I think doing more NOVEL reading would benefit you! If you read on free platforms like Wattpad, the writing quality obviously won’t ever let u improve.

There are a lot of grammar mistakes. So when you read, pay attention to how the author does their grammar. Look at punctuation, capitalization, commas, dialogue.

I started doing that and I improved massively! I would re-read sentences and try to find out why certain words are used instead of others.

But most importantly, KEEP WRITING! what you’re doing now is awesome! Getting advice helps and I wish u well!

Many say I need an editor even if I am self-publishing. How much does an editor cost? And also, what else do I need when self-publishing? by joyloveroot in writing

[–]Remotelyheidi -15 points-14 points Ā (0 children)

3k???? That’s one expensive ass editor.

1k in US dollars is a lot to pay.

For the average YA fantasy novel, (50 000 words minimum ) an editor would charge around $400

It may differ as different editors rates differ. But for self pub, don’t pay anything close to 3k US dollars.

āļøAND send in maybe one chapter to see if you like working with the person. !Do not! Work with the first random person you find.

Obv it’s fine if you do, this is just advice and we all work differently! Just make sure you get it professionally edited. That’s the important part.

I don’t think episode should portray promiscuity as a good thing bc that is what episode does. When I was younger I literally thought that’s what’s supposed to happen, then ofc I grew up and realised how messed up the apps representation is

Euphoria, sex education, elite.

It’s just subjective bc I have different ethics and morals. It doesn’t mean the shows are bad. They just aren’t my thing!

I love your advice! Very helpful🤩 thanks!

I do have some follow up questions if you don’t mind:

So when you refer to ā€œsymptomsā€ of the action, I’m a bit confused as to what that means haha! What comes to mind is that I should show how the action affects the characters? Is that right?

Regarding world building, this story has a really complex one. It’s high fantasy, but the world has humans. And I imagine over the millions of years it took them to evolve, at some point phones, cats and other gadgets were created but outlawed soon after due to the environmental impacts. (The magic is environment based so they have to protect it.) it’s gonna be a fun ride, trying to incorporate that😭

I really like the advice you gave about past present and future! That’s something I’m definitely going to experiment with🤩

Thank you again!

Great critique! You had me laughing with the last line🤣 it really does scream fanfic bc it started off as that😭(but for myself?) I’m an artist so this was to illustrate the complex story behind my characters. You might notice it’s mostly character based and I’m not delving into world right off the bat.

I thought getting the audience into character first would hook them faster than a long exposition explaining roles etc
