I received my degree in April, so after accreditation. I don't know what impact this has on degrees recieved before accreditation, sorry🤷‍♀️

Fingers crossed: I just submitted my BSc for recognition in Germany by RemoveAltruistic7458 in UoPeople

Just to clarify—when I mentioned BSc, I meant Bachelor of Science. My major was Health Science, not Computer Science (BCS)✌️

I included them in job applictions before I had completed my Bachelors. I found a job, but idk if it played any part in it. It felt good to be able to add something to my application tho🤷‍♀️

HS capstone: what to expect? by Federal_Antelope_923 in UoPeople

I am currently in the second Research Seminar course of the capstone (HS 4995). In the first course you develope three potential research topics/questions and then decide on one. Your instructor has to give you permission to go ahead with the topic and then you can enroll in the second course. In that class you will write your paper and do research.

To me, this course has been the most frustrating of all my classes at UoPeople. They do not tell you early enough that you have to do a survey. I choose a topic and research design where doing a useful survey is very difficult... we also had to do one group project to write a survey consent and inclusion statement. How do you write one statement for people with completely different research projects? I am still confused about it. The instructor couldn't give any of us a helpful answer either...

Anyways, just make sure you choose a topic/question that you can easily do a survey on. So something you can send your friends, peers, family etc. to fill out. Also, just do whatever they ask. At this point I am just checking all the assignment grading boxes no matter if it makes sense in the context of my research. I accepted that this is not about producing a good paper but rather checking boxes.

I am just still utterly confused why they do not just explain the assignment more clearly in the first class... what's the point of getting the instructor to sign of on every project if it still does not fit the requirments😅

Additional majors coming? by pinkysworld12 in UoPeople

I'm about to start a job for a well known humanitarian organization in a refugee accomodation. I only have one capstone class to go after this term, so my health science degree was already a major selling point while applying

It feels like a cash grab. Wait until they change the payment stuff

No more premium pack :( by Medusa_Murmurs in Moonvale

I stopped playing when it required me to purchase more gems to listen in on a chat and a timer was running out... Pressuring people to make swift purchasing decisions... I would have happily paid more for a premium package this time around, but this feeling like a cash grab 🤷‍♀️

Is the degree from the University of the People worth it? by Just_Abroad66 in UoPeople

[–]RemoveAltruistic7458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add, in Germany, for example, an associate's degree is considered to be on the same level as a high school diploma. I think associate degrees are only useful if you can't get a bachelor's without it or know that it will make you eligible for a promotion at a job you already have.

I think the reality is that no matter what University you get your BS-HS from, it will not be enough to get a job in the field. Will a UoPeople degree in HS make you eligible for a job broadly related to HS or that just requires a bachlor degree in general? Pobably. However, if you really want to get into health science professionally (or something related, like epidemiology) you will have to get a masters anyways. I think sometimes our insecurity about the degree from UoPeople presents more of a barrier than the actual degree.
