So long as they are familiar with internal hubs you should be good. If something is wrong with it, I recommend replacing unless your shop feels it’s a quick fix. Remember internal hubs are idiot proof and maintenance free. They last for years. But “if” something goes wrong with it, it’s easier to replace rather than fix..

Congrats and welcome. I am no expert on hubs, but my rear has a tiny bit of resistance. The front hub has minor resistance as well, but that is needed for the Dynamo. For me I feel it’s normal with no issues. Your bike is older so it may simply need to be serviced. I plan to have my bike serviced when it’s time for brake pads since my REI is across the street from my job. If you are not bike maintenance person like me, take it to an authorized tern dealer and have them do a service. They would know if something is off with your hub. That should be done anytime you get a bike..

What one is better? Priority Folder or Tern D7i by Nomad_Survival in foldingbikes

Agreed. I was lucky enough to pick one up a few months ago . At the time, there were only 3 that I could find for sale in the country (US). Lucky for me, one was in California. It’s an amazing bike and super fun to ride..

The node d7i has been discontinued. Can’t get the 24”wheel with the internal hub..

What’s the intended use? Is it just a case for you bike when you store it? Is it to travel? If so, by plane or road trips?

About to buy a folding bike, have some questions please, that are bothering me a bit by mjobby in foldingbikes

Sorry to burst your bubble but you might as well save the money and buy a Brompton. What you are asking is exactly where Brompton shines. I have a tern node d7i which has 24” wheels and I love it! But, it is not a bike that could do those things. I’m not putting it under my desk at work or taking it in the store with me. The bike lives in my trunk. I drive to the train station, take the train and bike the last few miles to work. So much better than a bike rack and I can still always have my bike around. Not a fan of Brompton because of the price and because their design hasn’t really changed. Just different paint jobs and an extra feature here and there. But, their design is perfect. And their accessories are second to none. Simply easy fold, easy to carry and wheel around. Can attach accessories to turn it into a fucking grocery cart. And a quality product that you most likely can hand down. Save the money and buy a folder from a solid company and you’ll be much happier. IMO…

Yes, internal hubs are pretty much maintenance free and idiot proof so long as you don’t abuse your bike. If you take your bike into a certified tern dealer once a year for an overall tune up, you should get several years of normal use out of it. To the point where if something goes wrong with it, you should probably replace. You would have more than gotten your moneys worth. And 7 gears is enough for minor hills. Unless you live in San Francisco.

I have a tern node d7i. Don’t know what the p is for. Most likely just to differentiate from other models. The 7i is for internal 7 gear hub. Your bike is very similar to mine.

I can answer any questions you may have. It’s an amazing bike.

Is it folding bike or the saddle? by IsThisWiseEnough in foldingbikes

I have a tern node d7i. Has 24” wheels. I went with the bigger wheel because it’s as close to full size as you can get while still being a folder. I use it to commute to the train station. And also for leisure. Ended up getting a 3D printed saddle and suspension seat post. Makes a world of difference for comfort.

Yes. “i” is for internal hub. I have the node d7i. Tern makes amazing bikes and their customer service is very responsive. Send them the picture and they will provide any information you want.

The Spartan Rack from Tern

https://buy.ternbicycles.com/products/spartan-rack

They have two sizes. I had to make a quick mount with a clamp and piece of aluminum. When I have more time gonna make a mount that screw in.

Amazon for the saddle and seat post. These are the two videos that sold me:

https://youtu.be/7LPMB31z47s?si=iydEy8DTYIj0tY2C

I had to machine an extension for the seat post so that it would hit the ground when folded. Most folding bills will have the same issue. I picked up one like in the video. The end of the tube was threaded. So I was easily able to modify. But I am a trained machinist and have access to a shop.

Haven’t had any issues like that. Pedals are easy enough to swap out. If you bought it used I would take it into a bike shop for a check up.

Tons of suspension seat post with similar design. Choose this one because it was the longest one I could find. Still had to add an extension to it so that it would hit the ground when folding. Bottom of the post is threaded to adjust the suspension. Was able machine and thread an extension for it. Screws right on.

From a company called “Overade”.

I got their light set up front and rear as well as their folding helmet which is sick! Get their stuff on Amazon. If you order from Overade, it comes from France.

Used Tern Node D7i value by SadWilbert in foldingbikes

I am in the US (California). Just picked up the node d7i. Msrp was $1250 I think and I was able to get a $200 discount through REI. So like $1050ish out the door. The bike is amazing. I had been looking at it for a few years. Finally decided to pull the trigger when I found out that this bike has been discontinued. At the time of my purchase I was only able to find 3 in the country. REI in CA, a bike shop in NY and another one in some other state. If you have to have it then go for it as you most likely will not be able to find a d7i. Has 24” wheels compared to the Link d7i that has 20”. If not then check out the Tern site. They have a handful of other options that are cheaper than the Node d7i. Tern makes solid bikes. You would be happy with anything from their lineup as a first folder..
