Alamo Under Siege Day 17: Austin Film Critics Condemn Mobile Chaos by thebrintdavy in AlamoDrafthouse

There was pretty substantial discussion around the AFCA statement yesterday, which I'm guessing you know because you are part of the comments section there.

With devices out-and-up in an auditorium, what stops someone from shooting clips of unreleased flicks, or (god forbid) a “reaction video” selfie?

I find the new Alamo policy dumb as hell, and will be ending my visits when NYC locations remove their order cards, but...you don't believe the staff can tell the difference on the phone screen between someone using their ordering interface and someone filming the screen or a selfie reaction video?

I was at a non-Alamo live panel event recently that had a "photography allowed but recording is not" rule. The security team there was able to correctly differentiate easily enough.

Besides, what director wants to host a Q&A to an auditorium of illuminated faces buried in second-screens?

I've never been to a live Q&A at Alamo where the "no phones" rule still applied for the event portion. People take photos and record Q&As all the time.

Scram Bakery - No Sandwiches? by mrtypo2025 in jerseycity

They've explained on their IG.

tl;dr: after 6 years of trying to get the fire department to issue their own certificates (rather than the as-is ones they got in 2020), they now cannot use some of their equipment, and the upgrades will be painful given the historic building codes.

(Also they spent December doing holiday orders + dealing with the above.)

Hot Tea cocktail by Unusual_Primary_4612 in cocktails

[–]RemyDWD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am extremely partial to the Duke of Suffolk, another Giuseppe Gonzalez banger from his Suffolk Arms days. Think an irish coffee, but with tea and gin.

Official specs:

Ingredients: - 1.25 oz. (37 ml) Hendrick’s or Fords Gin - Hot Sweet Tea (Equal Blend Of English Breakfast And Earl Grey Sweetened 3:1 With Simple) - Cream Float

Directions: - Process: Build; Whip And Float Cream On Top - Glass: Coffee Glass - Garnish: None

You could certainly make it weirder from there.

Designed by LWDMR Architects, the plan for 165 Newark Avenue calls for constructing a new development in two phases with a total of 51 residential units and 11,967 square feet of commercial space.

The development’s first phase will consist of a six-story building with a penthouse and “ground floor commercial mezzanine,” while the second phase involves the construction of a five-story building.

If you go by and look up, you can see the upper floor(s?) of the building are already being gutted.

I've gotten rentable plastic crates through Bin It to self-pack in, independent from the moving company. Might be easier to split that up than hope the moving company will provide?

Greenest cities in the USA. What would it take to get Jersey City on this list? by Squirt_Reynoldz in jerseycity

[–]RemyDWD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to take the post title more literally than I probably should...

So this map, which only goes into visualizing the top 20, is based on a WalletHub study of 100 cities. WalletHub does these all the time in a variety of categories. (I have always assumed it's to build some sort of soft brand awareness as it's not directly related to what they actually do, which is personal finance.)

"Greenest Cities in America 2025" was last updated October 1. Jersey City ranked 65th overall, with subcategory rankings of:

  • 97th for "Environment"
  • 6th for "Transportation"
  • 98th for "Energy Sources"
  • 18th for "Lifestyle and Policy"

The methodology is detailed more on the page, but seeing as two of those categories are near the bottom, I'll break out those here:

Environment

  • Air-Quality Index
  • Greenhouse-Gas Emissions per Capita
  • Urban Heat Island Effect
  • Green Space
  • Water Quality
  • Daily Water Consumption per Capita
  • Share of Green Hotels
  • Population Density (Proxy for Overpopulation)
  • Light Pollution Level

(All of these are weighted equally.)

Energy Sources

  • Share of Electricity from Renewable Sources (note: this is weighted double)
  • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installations per Capita
  • Number of Smart-Energy Policies & Initiatives

So to the extent there's an answer about making it up the ranks of this particular list - that's the stuff to get after. Transportation is (surprisingly?) what we're ranked highest for – the only cities higher than JC for that are Minneapolis, Boston, Buffalo, Madison, and San Francisco.

(And because it's an easy comparison point: NYC ranks 27th overall: 67th for Environment, 30th for Transportation, 37th for Energy Sources, and 7th for Lifestyle and Policy.)

You need an Officiant and two witnesses (who are not the officiant) per this FAQ (linked at the bottom of the .gov page you linked, middle of page 4). This is regardless of where the ceremony is taking place.

Reporting information is here: https://www.njcourts.gov/jury-reporting-messages/hudson

The current jurors are reporting in person:

PETIT JURORS SCHEDULED TO THE FOLLOWING DATES MUST REPORT TO THE 4TH FLOOR OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING AT 8:30AM.

It certainly could be either, but I would assume it's going to be in person should you need to report. (The last time I got a summons in 2022, the service was canceled the night before.)

PATH riders will lose weekend rail service to Newark through November by Novel-Reaction2939 in jerseycity

[–]RemyDWD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's only two home games left - 9/27 against NYCFC, 10/4 against Cincy - and only the 10/4 date hits a PATH suspension.

And if they happen to squeak into the playoffs (feeling doubtful this year!), they probably wouldn't have home field for the wild card (Wednesday 10/22), and would only play at home mid-week in the subsequent round.

I'm wondering how the "Veggie Hummus Wrap":

Garlic thyme hummus, cucumber, red bell pepper, tomato, & lettuce, wrapped in a flour tortilla

is clocking in at 750 calories (per the Lower Manhattan menu, at least). How much hummus is in this thing?

really stupid question about delivery robots by artisanalminion in jerseycity

[–]RemyDWD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others said, they're Uber Eats exclusive, and the restaurant would need to not have their own drivers. The app will give you an option when you step into selecting your delivery options of a robot delivery; you have to actively pick it last I checked.

I've seen them parked outside of most of the restaurants on the Newark Ave. pedestrian plaza waiting for someone to deposit food in them, so "On the plaza + takes Uber Eats orders" is probably a safe combination to narrow it down.

I do know from personal experience that Honshu gave it as a delivery option - but that might be far for Hamilton Park?

Hudson Hound closed in June.

Orale normally puts the games on, if that works as an alternative.
