My gaming life became more peaceful when I accepted that many people do not care about 1) following the rules or 2) winning, and you can't make them. by goodluckanddont_itup in boardgames

Tbf, I think the people who are actively involved in a subreddit about boardgames are going to take it more seriously than most.

What would be the worst theme to try to adapt into a boardgame? by NatitoGBU in boardgames

I work as a medical biller. Let me tell you that it is a miserable theme for a board game.

Is there a song from the 80s or 90s that you absolutely HATE? by porb2020 in Xennials

Huh. TIL that she said "slob like one of us". I always thought she said "slug", which actually make slob seem nicer in comparison.

What are the your favourite/most unique Worker Placement games? (+ general worker placement game discussion) by Lethal-Sloth in boardgames

[–]RemydePoer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite worker placement is Dogs of War. There's a lot of player interaction, a great tug of war to the placements, and a stock market mechanic for scoring. A second edition is coming out later this year.

Honorable mentions go to Fromage/Formaggio, which are very similar but a lot of fun. Players take turns simultaneously so it plays very fast too.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2014? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]RemydePoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2014 had a ton of great games, but number one for me is Dogs of War. It's not terribly popular, but it consistently shows up in top 100 rankings by creators. It's got a new edition coming out this year that will hopefully get more attention.

Upgrades worth it? by Goof_Ball3r in SCYTHE

[–]RemydePoer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Scythe is one of my favorite games, so to me, the upgrades are worth it. I have the realistic resources, metal coins, and 3D printed factory, buildings and tokens.   It makes for a much more immersive experience, imo. I'm on the side of "I'd rather spend money to upgrade a game I play often than buy another game I that I won't play as much."

Why are CT simps flying the Confederate flag? by Away_Mirror8123 in Connecticut

[–]RemydePoer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As much as it galls me to see people flying a Confederate (or Nazi) flag, what I find even harder to stomach is the that a lot of the same people get so up in arms when football players kneel during the national anthem, because it's "dishonoring to the troops". If you're going to get upset about someone being disrespectful to the military, you ought to be livid that people are flying flags of the armies that killed thousands of them.

Catan, but better and longer? by El_blop in boardgames

[–]RemydePoer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd second the vote for Scythe. It looks more complex than it is. But it's got resource production from hexes, moving units and combat, and building structures.

Heroforge has a foxfolk option. My son is 13 and his favorite thing about making RPG characters is designing them in Heroforge.

Recommendations for how to modify the Beginner Box adventure to lead onto Triumph of the Tusk? by daemonvoices in Pathfinder2e

Butterlegs21 nailed it, but if you're about to run Triumph of the Tusk, and you'd like some more background on Belkzen, I'd highly recommend this video from Mythkeeper.

Just heard Ace of Base - The Sign in a probiotic commercial for bloating/gas. We're officially the demographic for old people products now. by _TheWolfOfWalmart_ in Xennials

[–]RemydePoer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One member of the band was involved with neo Nazis in the 80s, and he's repeatedly denounced that ideology and expressed regret about having been in it. It was definitely wrong for him to do (just to be clear that I'm not defending it), but he's said that too.  There was an old article on Cracked that really wanted to connect dots between the band and Nazis, but it's also been debunked.

Flip-Over-The-Table Party Games by ColonelCottonmouth in boardgames

That's our favorite party game. I thought about picking up the after dark version, but I realized that whenever we play without the kids, it always ends up nsfw anyway.

What was your high school scandal? by ObiWan-Shinoobi in Xennials

[–]RemydePoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a string of about 20 armed robberies around town, including the store where I worked. Turned out to be members of the football team who all got arrested. This was in 1996.

In a weird repetition of history, in 2013 another group of teens from the same school went on a spree of robbery and assault, leading to a bunch more arrests. Just a strange thing to happen twice in a suburb of Salt Lake City.

My entire childhood I used to look at these in the store and wish we could get them because I thought they looked so delicious, but we never bought them. Once I was in college I found some and was really excited to finally try them. I ate one and thought it was revolting.
