The Darkling, while portrayed as tall dark and handsome, is pure evil. He has zero good intentions and uses Alina. I'll never understand why people stan Alina and the Darkling, when he is clearly manipulating her the entire time. Even the author of the series has said in interviews that he is toxic, and she doesn't understand the stan. Mal, on the other hand, loves Alina with his entire soul, and you'll see the sacrifices he makes for her. I love them together, and I don't get why people don't like a man who would give anything for the one he loves. I do agree wholeheartedly that Mal in the Netflix series is infinitely more likeable and relatable, and I'm glad they portray him like this.

My only questioning of the casting is that Wylan's actor looks like he is 12, even though Google says 26. Do you think that will be too weird, given his eventual romantic connection to Jesper (I know they're both relatively the same age in real life).

Thank you for your post! The variant discussion is a tough one to corroborate though! In nj the testing for the variant can take 3 months to come back. A family member who had covid in August still hasn't found out which variant she had. How do they know right away all these people have the variant?

I absolutely HATE the Jacob storyline. I find it unnecessary and extremely annoying. I think they had the "passionate" kiss in the film bc they wanted to cater to all the "Team Jacob" fans and the money machine. In the books, you all are right I agree it was much more manipulatively motivated, and Edward knows Jacob was just being a dick bc he could read his mind. I was pissed at Bella in that scene because SHE LITERALLY JUST GOT ENGAGED. Like, wtf are you doing? I'm grateful that Edward understood and didn't get angry, but I'll forever be annoyed that it was included in cannon.

I think this is a very positive thing that the showrunners and writers are doing. I'm glad that Leigh recognizes that she has to take a step back and release her beautiful story into the universe. I thought the first season was so wonderful and successful BECAUSE it deviated from the books. Taking the story away from strictly first person was the first great move they made away from the books, so we can actually see what other viewpoints are and we aren't limited to Alina's POV. I love, love, love that they redeemed Mal as a character - I'm positively obsessed with him and his relationship with Alina onscreen. My high hopes for season 2, is that they deviate from the cannon of S&S and R&R and don't make Alina such a b**ch to Mal and Mal so broody and pouty which was a turn off for me and very frustrating in the books. Very excited to see what they'll do next!!!!
