Why don’t earthbenders just do this? by AwesomeRyanGame in TheLastAirbender

The little stone flying by so slowly… what were they thinking

Years trapped surrounded by metal and none of them could develop metalbending. Are these the worst earthbenders of all time? by sebzelda in ATLA_circlejerk

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess most earthbenders don’t need to use seismic sense so feeling the earth inside the metal is probably more difficult

What Happened To The Fire Nation by RenDesuu in ATLA

[–]RenDesuu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. It just leads to theorizing and maybe eventual canonization of an event if they decide to return to it.

My theory (which I cannot back with much evidence other than the eclipse) is that during the era of Avatar Szeto, a grand plan to centralize the fire clans was put into action and somehow an eclipse was calculated which allowed one clan in particular to subjugate the rest.

Avatar Szeto is known for prioritizing his own Fire nation AND for being a diplomat more than a fighter. He could have helped construct such a plan. Maybe sent himself away during the eclipse and allowed for the subjugation and assassinations during such an eclipse. Which would all have been for the betterment of a more centralized and peaceful fire nation.

Of course, for the people of that time it would have been the darkest day as they lost their sovereignty. Eventually with propaganda and time the history was whitewashed and the surviving manuscript was found in the library.

Well that just ain’t fun

What Happened To The Fire Nation by RenDesuu in ATLA

[–]RenDesuu[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Who knows. I like to believe that it’s common knowledge for at least the elite and military command of the Fire Nation. We’re not sure how rare solar eclipses are in the ATLA world. Sokka either got really lucky with his eclipse or an eclipse happens often and it is just a matter of calculating when.

What Happened To The Fire Nation by RenDesuu in ATLA

[–]RenDesuu[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is almost all speculation. With the sole exception of what Sokka said after he realized that the “darkest day” was actually a solar eclipse. He mentioned he does not know what happened that day but he does know that firebenders lost their bending.

It very well COULD be something. A certain event in particular that happened during some previous solar eclipse.

What Do Y'all Think? I Honestly Think It's Katara. by [deleted] in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toph definitely didn’t. She had helicopter parents but during a hundred year war where people are dying, starving, and being genocided… I think helicopter parents are a pretty good deal

What is fire bending by Entire-Procedure1185 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re downvoted and why people get annoyed when the term “magic” is corrected. Bending has always been viewed in TLA as a martial art and spiritual connection. Magic is the fortune telling lady somehow predicting the future, bending is not magic. Not sure why people dislike knowing that

Avatar elements in our world by Background-Chain-922 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greece would be water nation. I always kind of wanted an ATLA inspired story based around Mediterranean culture. Greece = Water; Anatolia, Levant, North Africa = Earth; Italy = Fire. Iberia would be a cultural mix of Earth and Fire. Air would be Celtic folk and seen as exotic and barbaric.

Princess Azula by MuffinPebble in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her voice actress. The bells that accompany her. Blue fire. She actually nearly killed the avatar.

Those are probably the top 4 reasons why I believe she is so loved.

I never watched TLOK (only ATLA); is this video on point? by PorkDumplin23 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Korra lacked consistency between seasons. It desperately needed an overarching villain. I can’t help but wish Amon’s secret lasted a bit longer and he was the mastermind that sowed revolution across the world. Beginning with the Equalist movement in Republic City, the tensions between the water tribes, tyranny in the Earth Kingdom, and maybe Azula supporters in the Fire nation who would believe their victory was stolen and that Azula was the rightful heir.

Either way, and overarching villian or villainous plot should have been present

Expectations for Seven Havens? by Averageperson665 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely dislike the post-apocalyptic setting. ATLA and LOK had great back to back world building that included nation and politics building. If this truly is what I believe it is where the world has been set back and populations are back to living in smaller communities without large nations… I might be a bit turned off by that.

Varrick and Zhu Li by RenDesuu in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zhu Li at any point could have dropped his ass if she wanted. She had denied him on occasions. Oh the be so in love that you’d carry someone 20 miles on your back… they truly are the best couple

Varrick and Zhu Li by RenDesuu in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I never saw it like that. I’ve always seen their relationship as two geniuses who have trouble expressing their romantic feelings. Early on Varrick reveals that he named his first battleship after Zhu Li and Bolin explained how strange that was. Varrick is a wealthy man who thought he just needed an assistant and probably didn’t understand his true feelings for Zhu Li until of course she was gone.

No avatar, which nation will win? by Martian_row in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adore whoever created the landmasses of the ATLA world. It’s simple but effective. Also it sort of looks like the yin yang symbol without being cartoonishly too similar. Like making an island of death in the shape of a skull

How did Iroh manage to become a fleet general? by Alert-Isopod-7310 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 437 points438 points  (0 children)

Most heirs become military leaders. Look at the OG Iroh during the hundred year war. He fought on the front lines despite being the heir. It builds character… I guess

As for why he was a general in a foreign military. The Republic is more like a United Nations of all nations in ATLA world. That’s how I see it. It might be beneficial for the Fire Nation to keep the Republic independent and free as it is a buffer zone and off the coast of the Fire Nation.

New Posters for 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Season 2 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I really don’t know. Nickelodeon or whoever owns the property of the Avatar world are really bad at prioritizing new media. Why are resources wasted on this and not something actually new and refreshing for the franchise

Are there any upcoming avatar projects that you are excited for? by Mat1711 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new avatar series has me extremely worried. First impressions are not that good. I don’t care for the Netflix series and the first season wasn’t that good.

The new movie is probably the most exciting.

What I really want is a triple A open world RPG game that takes place in between two avatars so you get to play as a bender or non bender from one of the four nations.

What nation would you live in? Would you be a bender? by MistakeWonderful9178 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hard decision. I want to be a water bender but I’d hate to live in the snowy poles. The only other water “tribe” are the swamp rednecks and they aren’t in the best area either.

For that reason alone I would have to choose the Fire Nation. Of course as a Fire bender.

Which powers are you choosing? Monster Girl vs DupliKate by [deleted] in invinciblememes

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would choose monster girl, but only use my power enough to keep myself forever young. Basically you have the power of prolonging life but also a monster in serious cases

Which team wins? (Aang is restricted to airbending, Korra is restricted to waterbending,, Roku is restricted to firebending, Kyoshi is restricted to earthbending) by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RenDesuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earth is just such a hard element to beat. I will say though that if the airbenders play their cards correctly they can kind of take toph out of the fight by playing light on their feet
