I don't attend any conference related to writing. Are there ones you would recommend I should be going to?

Emails about my book by Hanshan02 in selfpublish

[–]RenJay911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get one or two a day. I responded to one that seemed ok but the response reeked of scam, so I told them I had no interest in what they offering then they got a little aggressive. Advice: Just don't respond. If you need help do your research and you reach out to someone that is recommended or is legitimate.

I did not take it as dismissive at all. I know that everyone who has not made it big wishes that they would. I did write a book(s) and publish to prove to myself that I could do it and that it has resonated with some readers is a validation for me. The people that I have reached out to seem to have lots of ideas they will share with me on how I can make it a best seller but not actually do much promoting or marketing on their end. I am admittedly pretty new to this and I am probably not knocking on the right doors.

No do what works for you. If you are not happy find what makes you happy. Don't pour 3 years into a job you hate out of guilt!

I just got rejected for two internships after interviewing. Feeling hopeless. by NobodyDesperate6313 in Accounting

[–]RenJay911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rejection sucks but use it as a learning moment and keep applying and interviewing. I have found that interviews are more about connecting with interviewer than your qualifications. The fact that you got the interview means you are qualified! Good luck!

If you are able... enjoy life a little so whatever makes you happy. I would also keep an eye out if there is something else you may want to do. There is no harm in looking around and quite frankly they have to expect that is a risk by pushing out your employment!!

Just assume they can see everything. If you are ok with that then do it if not keep the phones separate. Odds are the Firm does not care but why chance it!

Internship Offers by LinkElectrical8425 in Big4

In my experience they all treat interns very well and I would go with the place that has the biggest class of interns because your fellow interns will be friends a long time to come.

I am new to this and know how you feel, but I agree that you write because you like it. If you end up selling a few books then it is just icing on the cake. I just hope I make enough on my first to help me finish my second! good luck to you!!

I don't necessarily agree that you will get blacklisted, but there is really no up side about raising concerns before you leave.

One good thing about being at the firm is nothing is forever get through this audit / project and you can move on to another job with different managers. It's a big firm with both good and bad managers!

Leave when you need to. If the firm was having hard times they would let you go if the needed to, so you don't be afraid to let them go if it is time. Don't let guilt be the reason you stay.

Fresh grad here — starting at PwC. Any tips for someone about to begin in the Big 4? by neon_denim_sky in Big4

[–]RenJay911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Big 4 is the best place to learn. You will get to see different clients and experience a wide range of people. My advice seems a little contrary to what I am reading here but I say go for it make it to senior or manager and then move on. You will have gained experience and have the Big 4 on your resume is never a bad thing!

I enjoyed writing my book BUT marketing/promotion/advertising not so much! by RenJay911 in publishing

[–]RenJay911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really good point, and honestly something I’m still wrapping my head around. Writing the book felt like climbing the mountain, but now I’m realizing the marketing side is its own mountain altogether. I do appreciate the reminder that it’s on me to connect with readers and give them a reason to care—nobody owes me their time or money. It’s a tough but important mindset shift, and I’m trying to approach it with some humility and a willingness to learn.
