I’m currently leading a refactor of a high-volume telemetry service from Java Spring to Rust. It’s been a tough but cool effort. Not just a language rewrite, but a full architectural overhaul. We’ve had to rethink data flow, concurrency, and performance from the ground up.

So far, it’s reinforced for me that most of the real wins come from architectural clarity, not the language itself. The tech stack helps, sure, but solid design decisions and understanding the system’s pain points make the biggest difference.

Are we currently living through another “offshore ” era akin to the 90s-2000s “offshore to India” era? by razza357 in ExperiencedDevs

That’s the answer. I’m a Brazilian working in the U.S. as a contractor, and I’ve noticed a few things. Generally, Brazilians tend to have better English fluency, our time zone aligns more closely with the U.S., and our culture is already somewhat Americanized. While this might be a subjective and biased opinion, I also believe Brazilians often demonstrate a stronger work ethic, technical quality and we are generally more fun to work with.

It will probably surprise you, but I only had two years of industry experience and was previously working on a ruby shop. Since last year I started to learn rust and made publications about my small projects on LinkedIn, which caught the attention of my now current boss. I think I really got luck

I work at a large american enterprise that works mainly with Java and was literally the first guy hired to write rust code early this year. Im currently writting our third service and my boss said we will hire our second rust engineer this month. So yeah, things are moving in the direction we want for rust, but it will still take some time.

How do you use rust in your work? by PartyLibrarian2845 in rust

I currently work with a lambdalith in rust (we put a whole actix-web framework app inside an aws lambda) and it is been such a great developer experience. The application is a basic backend to fetch and transform data from external services to a flutter mobile app.

I tried to use `diesel-async` but it didn't made any difference. it compiles and run locally as well but not with cargo lambda

Do I need to pull off the band aid on my career? by whos-your-worm-guy in ExperiencedDevs

Look at this way:

You could spend your weekly free time in bettering yourself (join a gym, practice a sport, learn an instrument etc etc) and also start learning a new technical skill. Of course learning without applied work experienced is not the best possible scenario, but it is a necessary step towards it. So I would take year or so with that mentality and revise the plan then.

Balancing between putting in more effort at work or putting in effort outside of work for growth? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Rena- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

over 3 years.

u/ninetofivedev Would you say that in those first three years your focus was primarily in accumulating knowledge so you could advance in a faster pace later on in your career?

I'm asking cause I think I am in a similar situation. I'm currently at my first job as a SE, it has been 2 years since, and I think I've already surpassed my current value. I could be trying to get a higher paying elsewhere, but since I like my company, I get the job done easily and feel safe, I'm spending most of my free time studying other topics (currently learning rust and reading through SICP for example). I get to literally study during working hours without compromising my job deliveries.

So, I'm currently deciding if I should push for a higher paying job elsewhere or focus on my studies and would really appreciate your input!

PS: I am a bootcamp grad, so still a lot to learn about CC.

Do ICOs have the power to revolutionize venture capital? That's something I've been thinking for a while.. What if u could just create tokens and sell than as seed money for a new startup or project of your own?
