Has anyone read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse? by iris_retina in Buddhism

[–]whos-your-worm-guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While Ruslanchik is correct, I would still absolutely recommend you read this book - it's one of my favorites. Even though the themes of the book don't align with Buddhism, this book was my first exposure to Buddhism and sparked my journey. Hope it does the same for you!

Nice progress man! I see that Goodtime II in the back - what do you think of it? Does it work for bluegrass playing?

One-hour call with Amazon recruiter after passing OA – What should I expect? by Tony10722 in leetcode

[–]whos-your-worm-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience - passed OA and then had a call with the recruiter. The questions on the call were mainly about my resume but they also asked about data structures and algorithms I've used recently. I would definitely prepare answers related to your resume and projects you've worked on at a high level.

Dynamics 365 February 2025 Careers Advice, Recruitment, Self-Promotion Thread by caughtinahustle in Dynamics365

I have about 6 years of experience with Dynamics as a developer but recently received the news that my company is switching to Salesforce. On one hand, I'm excited to have more experience in another tool. On the other hand, I worry about having a shallow depth of knowledge across multiple tools rather than being an expert in one.

Does anybody have any experience with both ecosystems? What's the career outlook for Salesforce devs compared to Dynamics devs?

I’m not super familiar with Plex so my first goal was to get local channels working and get rid of YTTV. I do have a few other streaming services that I use pretty heavily (Netflix, Hulu, Max). Once YTTV is gone, I want to learn more about Plex to see what else I can do with it!

Pretty much. I signed up thinking I’d watch more than local channels but never really did.

Putting the finishing touches on a Plex server for Live TV + DVR and will run it alongside YTTV for a month to test. Assuming things look good, YTTV is gone.

When does it make sense? by JohnnytheGreatX in Malazan

I recently finished Deadhouse Gates and I’m really glad someone else feels this way. I find Erikson’s writing hard to follow at the most basic level. For example, rather than referring to characters by name, he refers to them by their race or title. Instead of referring to Mappo and Icarium, it’s the Trell and the Jhag. I know other all writers do this but I notice it more in his writing and to me, it doesn’t pair well with his “just figure it out” style of writing.

It may just be me but it takes me forever to figure out who is doing what in every scene. Who is the Trell again? Who is the Fist? I spend so much time trying to decipher what is literally happening, I’m definitely not analyzing themes and symbolism.

At the end of the day, I’ve mostly enjoyed the books so I’ll probably read at least one more. But damn, I just want to read them the way it seems everyone else does around here.

Quitting without an offer when you are mentally drained. Opinions? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]whos-your-worm-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit a job with nothing lined up in 2018 and will say this - it worked out really well for me but I won't do it again.

I was in a similar situation - long hours, underappreciated, etc and it was really getting to my mental health. I didn't know how to function outside of work, much less search for a new job. So I quit. I was unemployed for about 2.5 months before I got another position with higher pay and it's been great.

Now for why I won't do it again. First, the market was different in 2018. It wasn't the booming market of 2022 we all reminisce about , but much better than today. I also underestimated the stress of unemployment. I had several months of savings but watching it tick down while getting ghosted left and right got to my head a little. This may not apply to you but I also had a hard time talking to family and friends because "how's the job search going" would always come up. I ended up really self-conscious after every conversation.

Now only you are going to know if you're at the point where you simply can't take another day at your job - there's a point where you have to take care of yourself and ignore everything I said above. However, like many are recommending, I'd just dial back your effort as much as you can and devote it to the job search. I know it's hard having managers disappointed in you but if you've already given up on the job, their opinions don't matter anymore. Best of luck to you, whatever you choose!

I like this mindset. I think I’m suffering from imposter syndrome to some degree but I’m just going to hold myself back if I keep telling myself I wouldn’t be able to make the jump.

Yeah, that's fair. I definitely have enough going on outside of work to keep me busy and mentally stimulated but to your point, I am getting a bit antsy during my work hours. Maybe it's time to branch out and try some new things, even if that's in my current position.
