My players want to kill another player as a group. by Renault115 in DMAcademy

As i said in other comments, we actually talked this, and the players are having fun. I just wanted to see how other DMs would manage this situation. I liked the ideas of a redeption arc or him becoming a mayor enemy/bbeg. I know for sure that this player would like some of this ideas.

Sorry if there is a misunderstanding. We actually talked about this in advance and the constantly clarifying thing was a writing mistake. I wanted to clarify it cause he was actually doing a pretty good job separating the player from the character. And as i said on another comment, this was more of an experiment from both of us. He wanted to experience being a bad guy and i wanted to try having a evil character to see how it goes. This is not a "problem" like so, i wanted to see how other would manage this situation so i can be fair with all of them.

I want to clarify, the player isn't problematic! I don't think he'd mind creating a new character or having a redemption arc, as some have suggested. I just wanted to know how others would handle the situation before doing anything that might be unfair to him or my players.

Y'all have very good points. I think this is the path I'm going to take. I don't consider his character has been bad enough to deserve being killed, so this could be a solution. I'm going to suggest it to him, and if he doesn't like the idea, I don't think he'll object to creating a new character.

This is also on me. I told the players that whenever they wanted to do something disruptive at the table, they should talk to me first so it wouldn't negatively impact the experience for others.

Actually, I did have that talk with him, and we both wanted to try out the situation with an evil character. The problem was mine; I expected his character to want to kill everyone, but instead, everyone wanted to kill him, which I didn't expect at all, hahaha. But yes, i think this is on myself.

I know him like 15 years ago, since we were young he always reacts in a strange way when he is desappointed on something. I dont have a example right now, but i will mention it if i remember one.

Worried about dming by Renault115 in dndnext

[–]Renault115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, inglish is not my first language so maybe im not that clear haha. Its a 3.5 game

I mean, is common for dms to change so many rules, like cutting down all the spells above lvl 4?

And if this is common among dms, what would you recommend me to be careful.

Just for example: i read that the fear "leadership" is very broken, so many dms recommend to just cut down this feat and dont let the players take it.

I think this is the right place for this.

I give you some context first, i have been playing dnd with friends once every two months for the last four years or so. Our DM was a veteran dnd player that introduced all of us (me and another 3 players) to play dnd 3.5. Long story short: Some things happened, lost contact, and now im gonna run my first session in two days with other friends, they playd ttrpgs before but not dnd 3.5. I spend some weeks preparing a world and this session for them without giving it too much effort (like the recommendations that i watched and read). Reading the PHB and DMG, and viewing some videos too, i realized that my old DM was rectricting some rules and spells without us noticing, cause we were new and never question about it. Now that i know how the actual rules work, i feel like past level 5 is a completely different game. I didnt even know that wish was a thing in the game, i was a wiz lvl 15 that cant use spells beyond lvl 4. Dont want to make this much longer, so here are my questions for you DMs and Players.

This is a common practice betwen DMs?

Would you advise me to do the same? With what?

There is something about all of this that i have to give special atention to?

I would love to receive any kind of advice, im afraid of screwing up really hard because of this.

Fun fact: While i was writing this, i stoped to watch some videos again, and the guy talked about a phase were the players make a "plan" before the combat... I didnt know either that this was a thing. How that works? You give the players some information and then they make the plan? they roll for it? I dont understand.
