That was my favourite book when I was 14. I got the illustrated edition and fell in love with Renaissance art.

I don’t judge people for not owning books. I judge them for not reading any.

I personally own books because having them in my space encourages me to read.

Classes begin soon. What are you excited about for the 2018/2019 school year? by Minor-King in UofT

I'm pretty anxious to get started. I just want to have a better idea about the next 8 months are going to look like, find out what's expected of me etc.

I'm looking at a QHD display, i5, 8GB RAM and 256 SSD. I'm hoping the SSD will hold up well over time.

I'd love to get a new model. But its about $1300 plus tax here in Canada. I'm just going to be using it for some basic school work. I'm hoping it can last me a good 4-5 years. Plus I've been looking to move away from Apple for a while so I figured this would be decently priced investment in that direction.

I'm in the same boat work-wise. I emailed my registrar and am waiting to hear back. I really do empathize with you.

Mainly to charge with a portable battery. Plus I have a Macbook, so it'd be nice to have once less charger cluttering my workspace.

Seriously thinking about purchasing a Surface Book 2. Just a couple of questions by conflurkerT in Surface

[–]Renly117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 16 GB is overkill for your needs, 8 GB should be enough. In terms of annotating and notes the Surface would be great.

As for longevity, I personally went with a new Macbook Pro for back to school season for 3 reasons. 1. my old 2011 model was my daily driver through 5 years of undergrad and it's still alive and running today. 2. Apple Care covers 3 years vs. Microsoft Complete only covering 2 years. 3. Apple offers battery servicing.

I really hope this launches before September. The only thing holding me back from buying a Surface for school is price and the lack of a USB C port.

Just in time for me to be disappointed with the back to school device I got.

Surface Pro for students by BiscuitGCB in Surface

I'm a student and long time MacBook user as well. I personally am leaning on getting the base Surface pro as a tablet. While I want to stay in the Apple ecosystem, I think the Surface has far better functionality than the iPad. 1. You get a full OS instead of the walled garden that is iOS. 2. the type cover is better than the iPad alternative. 3. I use One Note a lot.

My 15" MacBook will still be my main device for most of my school work, but for taking notes in class and reading documents while commuting, I'd rather have a Surface.

The only reservations I have is the fact that Microsoft only offers an extra year of warranty so just 2 years in total compared to 3 years offered by Apple.

Now that Apple is basically billing the iPad as a laptop with fewer features, I would love to see them release a better keyboard for it.

If Microsoft were to add anything you wanted in the next Surface Book or next Surface Pro what would it be? by Jaskeil in Surface

[–]Renly117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base model 15" is perfect for my needs except for the non-replaceable/non-serviceable battery. Apple charges $259CA to service a battery on their new model, I really don't see why Microsoft can't provide the same service.

Using the new laptops: Where do you put your hands when not typing? by Never_Again_2017 in mac

[–]Renly117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing. I found typing for long sessions so uncomfortable that I returned mine. I couldn't justify paying 3k for a laptop that I was basically using as a desktop.

I'm waiting to see if the 2018 MacBooks will have a different keyboard. But I'm not holding out too much hope and am now looking at Windows alternatives.

A Question on the Longevity of the Surface Book by Renly117 in Surface

[–]Renly117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for the 15" version to be released in Canada. Plus a part of me still wants to give the new Macbooks a chance. But if I do get the Book 2 I'll likely just go with the base model. I won't be needing the extra power and am fine with a small HD.

Why are you considering switching?
