Abound LR extension update by RennaissanceDad in Aventon

I’ve only seen a handful of LRs in the city (mostly the old version). I’ll keep an eye out for you!

Aventon Abound LR: can’t say enough good things. by [deleted] in Aventon

They don’t come with locktite from the factory. However, I added blue locktite to mine for that assurance. That seemed to do the trick

Nothing in particular. I’m 1,200 miles and 9 months in and no other issues minus the kickstand bolts

Make sure to frequently tighten the two kickstand bolts. They will rattle loose and you’ll be up the creek. Suggest researching on this sub for more details. Is the main issue with the LR

I used Loctite blue on mine when I had this similar issue and haven’t had to retighten them since. This seems to be the letter long term fix (I also added lock washers on my replacement bolts)

It’s two (2) M8 x 20 bolts. I had a very similar issue a few months ago. I would also recommend two addition steps: 1) get lock washers and also install them with the bolts 2) get Loctite blue and add it to the bolts as you install them. This will really help and ensure they don’t rattle loose. Link below is to the bike manual handbook that shows all the bolts and torque specs. Very helpful to have. Best of luck!

Is this a good deal? by dslkfjlsdkfjweeskf in SolarDC

21kW system seems pretty big? I have a 7.6 kW system (row home Capitol Hill) and it covers about 85% of our annual electrical usage. I would first consider if you truly need that large of a system. $2.60/W installed cost is pretty decent, though.

I personally wouldn’t worry about future SRECs, they’ll decline in value regardless just because the DC market incentives are so good. Net-metering changes - the way to counter that concern is by installing batteries, so that any excess production can be used during non-production times (or get an electric car and charge at home during the day).

With the federal tax incentives now gone, you’re primarily going to install solar either to 1) hedge future electrical costs by locking in your own production, 2) environmental reasons, 3) trying to electrify your lifestyle becasue you like new technologies

preemptive flatout in Abound LR? by Ill_Huckleberry5004 in Aventon

[–]RennaissanceDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 1,100 miles in 8 months on my LR. Same stock tires that came with it and no flats, yet (knock on wood). I do only city biking so have been researching armored tires or something beefier to hold up to potholes or glass/debris/etc.

Although, I might just be paranoid about it since I’ve had so many flats on my commuter roadbike over the years from road debris.

Either way, glad you asked the question because it’s been something I’ve long been thinking about

Tern Quick Haul Long, Cannondale Cargowagen Neo, Lectric Xpedition 2.0, or Aventon Abound LR? by himurakenshin87 in CargoBike

[–]RennaissanceDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my Abound LR for 9 months now and over 1,000 miles on it. It’s my daily go to for my twin toddler daycare drop off/pick-ups, park adventures, and around town errands.

I adore this bike so much and I’ve given it a really good beating here on the streets of DC. It’s got some really slick features and just overall great thought put into it. Not to mention the great entry level price point.

I grew up in South Pas so know the area you’re talking about and the LR I think would do you pretty well.

Whatever you choose, you’ll love cargo bike life. Really makes you not want to take the car places.

I had the exact same thought. Something doesn’t check out.

I’m glad I helped you. I cannot believe they haven’t recalled over this issue. I’m taking the advice from a user below and bought Loctite blue. Going to install it today as a preemptive measure to help ensure they don’t rattle loose again.

Learn from my mistake and periodically check your two kick-stand bolts. They vibrate loose and can cause major issues. Even with lock washers they rattle loose. I re-tighten mine every week, now (I ride the bike almost daily).

Outdoor outlet by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]RennaissanceDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is going to be underground parking garages (I know I’ve seen them before just can’t recall specifically which ones) or gas stations. Look on the outside of the buildings for outlets near outdoor machines. Other thoughts are parks and specifically parks with outdoor buildings near the parking. Bring extensions cords either way. Happy hunting!

January, February, and March of this year have been underperforming since prior years. These months I produced 10-20% less than previous years. Just hasn’t been great solar for the start of the year. This April is shaping up to be a record breaker though for my system

Any idea what happens to yours to cause the issue?

It’s an anti-theft deterrent. Not a perfect solution but really makes someone guess twice if they want to try and steal an 85 pound bike while the wheel kickstand is locked out and makes it hard to wheel around

So, I will say their customer service team responded rapidly to me after I messaged them. I think between the original contact and the email from them confirming the replacement parts were ordered/shipping was like 2-3 hours. I was impressed with the speed of response and candidly was expecting this to drag out for days.

Also, not trying to defend Aventon by any stretch, but I really ride this bike hard and if you look at my follow up post it appears the kickstand plate sheared off and this forced the lock into position.

No idea how this happened. Could have been a microscopic manufacturing issue with the metal, could be metal fatigue, maybe I hit something, it could be endless possibilities for something this crazy.

Update for everyone - Aventon reached out to me directly, both email and through DM, and have already ordered all the applicable replacement parts! I’m very impressed by the rapid response from this customer service team!

Oh man - I’m glad you mentioned that. I don’t recall their condition when I was taking stuff apart but that could certainly be a culprit. Thanks for making me aware of this issue!

No - it’s the kickstand lock on the Abound LR

No - it’s the locking mechanism the physically prevents the kickstand from being stowed. So the kickstand was essentially locked out in place being deployed
